  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Injury deemed sports hernia

Story, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday, has been diagnosed with a sports hernia, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Story was originally said to have a groin injury, so the sports hernia diagnosis provides more specificity to the issue he's reportedly been dealing with for much of the season. According to Bill Koch of the Providence Journal, a sports hernia can sideline a player six weeks if surgery isn't needed and about four months if surgical, so Story appears to be facing an extended absence. Andruw Monasterio is starting at shortstop for Boson on Saturday and could pick up regular playing time there in Story's stead.

  • Nick Sogard SS | BOS

Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Recalled from Worcester

The Red Sox recalled Sogard from Triple-A Worcester on Saturday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Sogard will come up from Triple-A to replenish Boston's infield depth following Trevor Story's (groin) move to the injured list. Sogard has spent the entire 2026 campaign in the minors up to this point, slashing .269/.417/.454 with five homers, 23 RBI, 27 runs scored and four steals across 168 plate appearances.

Red Sox's Trevor Story: Placed on injured list

The Red Sox placed Story on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a groin injury, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Story has reportedly been battling a groin issue for the majority of the season, and the Red Sox will now place him on the injured list so they can properly treat his injury. Andruw Monasterio and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will likely split reps at shortstop while Story is on the shelf, and Nick Sogard could factor into the mix as well after coming up from Triple-A Worcester.

  • Ernie Clement 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Resting Saturday

Clement isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers.

Clement went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run during Friday's series opener, and he'll now step out of the lineup to give Lenyn Sosa a start at the keystone Saturday.

  • White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Launches 12th homer

Montgomery went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Friday against the Cubs.

Montgomery led off the second inning with his 12th home run of the season. He's gone deep in consecutive starts and also has three homers in his last five games. In that span, Montgomery has hit .316 with four RBI and five runs scored and remains a very strong source of power and counting-stat production.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Hospitalized with meningitis

Smith (lower body/wrist) was diagnosed with viral meningitis Friday and is receiving treatment in a hospital, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Smith is expected to remain in the hospital for 7-to-10 days. The 28-year-old utility man had already been dealing with a glute strain and a wrist issue, and there's currently no telling when he'll be back in the Rangers' lineup. Ezequiel Duran has been making regular starts at second base with Smith sidelined.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Not in lineup Friday

Seager is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Astros.

Seager is 0-for-27 at the plate over his last seven-plus games and will get a breather as Ezequiel Duran moves over to shortstop for Texas. On the season, Seager is slashing a disappointing .179/.286/.353 with seven home runs, 20 RBI, 22 runs scored, one stolen base and a 22:50 BB:K across 182 plate appearances.

  • Austin Martin LF | MIN

Twins' Austin Martin: Keeps raking in rout

Martin went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI, a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's 9-1 win over Miami.

Filling in as Minnesota's leadoff man for the injured Byron Buxton (hip) on Thursday, Martin responded with one of his best showings at the plate all season. The outfielder racked up a season-high three RBI, turning in his fourth multi-hit game in his last six outings. Although Martin hasn't offered much in the way of power, he's batting a torrid .333 with one home run, 11 RBI, 22 walks and seven stolen bases over 105 at-bats.

  • Cody Freeman SS | TEX

Rangers' Cody Freeman: Ready for rehab assignment

Freeman (back) will begin a rehab assignment with the Rangers' Arizona Complex League affiliate Thursday.

Freeman missed most of spring training due to a stress reaction in his lower back but has been cleared for games after a long rehab process. Because he's been sidelined for so long, Freeman's rehab assignment could last a while. When the Rangers decide the 25-year-old is ready to rejoin the active roster, he'll fill a utility role.

  • White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Sitting out versus southpaw

Montgomery is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Royals.

The lefty-swinging Montgomery was in the lineup the last five times the White Sox went up against a traditional lefty hurler, but he'll take a seat in Thursday's series finale as the Royals send southpaw Kris Bubic to the bump. Luisangel Acuna is grabbing a start at shortstop while Montgomery rests.
