Astros' Jeremy Pena: Could return next weekend
Pena (calf) is expected to play in a couple of rehab games at Triple-A Sugar Land this week could return from the 10-day injured list during the Astros' final series before the All-Star break next weekend against the Rangers, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
The veteran shortstop landed on the shelf last Tuesday due to a calf strain, but his absence looks like it will end up being a brief one. Pena was swinging a hot bat prior to getting hurt, having gone 8-for-21 with two walks, three RBI and five runs in his last five games.

Pena was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to a left calf strain that had been lingering. The Astros are optimistic that the shortstop can return when his 10 days are up, and his ability to do some light running already bodes well for potentially reaching that goal. Pena was held out of the starting lineup Monday after experiencing left leg discomfort, and Espada revealed after the game that further testing revealed a calf strain. Espada noted that he's hopeful Pena will be in line for a minimum-length stint on the shelf, which would put the shortstop in line to return July 10 against the Rangers. Look for Nick Allen and Brice Matthews to see most of the reps at shortstop in Pena's absence.

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Reinstated, batting leadoff Monday
The Astros reinstated Pena (hamstring/neck) from the 10-day injured list Monday, and he'll start at shortstop and bat leadoff in Houston's series opener in Minnesota.
Pena will be back in action for the Astros for the first time since April 11, after a Grade 1 right hamstring strain and more recently, a stiff neck, had kept him on the shelf for just over five weeks.
