  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Cleared to catch bullpen sessions

D'Arnaud (foot) was able to catch from a pitching machine Sunday and has continued to do swinging and throwing in his workouts, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

D'Arnaud is doing nearly every baseball activity except for running, which is the main hurdle he'll need to clear in his recovery from right foot plantar fasciitis before the Angels send him out for a rehab assignment. The veteran backstop has been on the injured list since May 7 due to the injury and appears unlikely to make it back until after the All-Star break.

  • Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Back atop depth chart

Narvaez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.

Though he'll take a seat for the series finale while Connor Wong gets a turn behind the plate, Narvaez may have reclaimed the No. 1 catcher job for Boston. The Red Sox optioned the slumping Mickey Gasper to Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, leaving Narvaez and Wong as the only backstops on the active roster. Narvaez started three of the previous four contests, going 2-for-8 with a double while also reaching base on a hit-by-pitch.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Taking seat for series finale

O'Hoppe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

Tyler Heineman will get the nod at catcher while O'Hoppe rests after starting the previous two games. Dating back to the start of June, O'Hoppe is hitting .286 with two home runs, 10 RBI and five runs in 20 games.

  • Twins' Victor Caratini: Receiving breather Sunday

Caratini is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

The Twins will go with Alex Jackson behind the dish for the series finale. Caratini had started at catcher in each of Minnesota's last five games, going 4-for-19 with a home run, a walk, two RBI and two runs during that time.

  • Rays' Hunter Feduccia: Taking seat Sunday

Feduccia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Feduccia will be rested for the series finale after he started at catcher in the team's last three games. Nick Fortes will spell Feduccia behind the plate Sunday.

  • Guardians' Patrick Bailey: Resting up Sunday

Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

Bailey will get a breather for Sunday's matinee after he started behind the plate in each of the Guardians' last three games. Austin Hedges will handle catching duties for Cleveland in the series finale.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Mariners' Mitch Garver: Catching while Raleigh serves as DH

Garver will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Garver and Jhonny Pereda had been splitting time behind the dish from about mid-May through mid-June while Cal Raleigh was on the injured list, but Garver ended up sticking around with the big club once Raleigh returned from the shelf. Though he'll crack the lineup Sunday while Raleigh serves as the Mariners' designated hitter, Garver is unlikely to see more than a start or two per week in his role as the No. 2 catcher.

  • Rangers' Kyle Higashioka: Sitting in second straight game

Higashioka is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

The Rangers will keep Higashioka on the bench for a second straight game while Elias Diaz is rewarded with another start behind the plate after driving in two runs during Saturday's 7-4 win. Higashioka should still be well positioned to see the larger share of the starts at catcher for Texas while Danny Jansen (forearm) is on the shelf.

  • Sam Huff C | BAL

Orioles' Sam Huff: Cast off 40-man roster

The Orioles designated Huff for assignment Sunday.

Though Baltimore will keep three catchers on its active roster following Adley Rutschman's (concussion) return from the 7-day injured list Sunday, but Chadwick Tromp will end up sticking as the No. 3 option over Huff. After being called up from Triple-A Norfolk on June 6, Huff appeared in six games for Baltimore and went 2-for-14 with a double and a 0:6 BB:K.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Making return from IL

The Orioles reinstated Rutschman (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Sunday. He'll start at catcher and bat third in the Orioles' series finale with the Nationals.

Rutschman missed about a week and a half due to a concussion, which he sustained June 18 game in Seattle. While he's expected to immediately step in as the team's No. 1 backstop, the Orioles could look to use him a bit more at designated hitter in the short term until the concussion is further in the rear-view mirror. Baltimore will keep Chadwick Tromp around on the 26-man active roster for the time being as a third option at catcher behind Rutschman and Samuel Basallo.
