Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Taking seat Sunday
Gonzalez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Gonzalez will hit the bench after he started in each of the Red Sox's last four games while going 6-for-16 with a home run, a triple, four RBI and two runs. Masataka Yoshida will serve as Boston's designated hitter Sunday, but he's generated a tepid .250/.331/.350 slash line on the season and could see his opportunities take a hit while Gonzalez has produced well since returning from the 60-day injured list June 28.

Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Homers in win
Gonzalez started at designated hitter and went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 8-1 win over the Angels.
Gonzalez went yard in the fifth inning to extend Boston's lead to 7-1. It was his first homer since coming off the injured list and his second consecutive game with two RBI. Gonzalez typically crushes left-handers, which is why he was in the lineup Saturday, but he's started four consecutive games since being activated, including two against right-handers. He can play all around the infield and could see regular turns at DH. He's gone 6-for-20 with a triple, a home run and four RBI over five games since rejoining the lineup.

Red Sox's Patrick Sandoval: Makes final rehab start
Sandoval (biceps) allowed one hit and one walk while striking out seven over five scoreless innings for Double-A Portland on Saturday.
Sandoval got up to 68 pitches (43 strikes) and, per MLB.com, the Red Sox anticipate him joining the rotation for their final series before the All-Star break. The left-hander is expected to fill in for injured starter Connelly Early (elbow) for at least one start.

Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Belts three-run homer
Contreras went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in an 8-1 victory versus the Angels on Saturday.
Contreras was handed a seven-game suspension Thursday for his role in a dust-up between Boston and Washington on Tuesday, but the veteran first baseman is able to continue playing during his appeal. That paid off big time for Boston, as Contreras clubbed a three-run homer in the first inning Saturday to give the team a lead they didn't relinquish. Contreras wasn't among the players announced for the AL All-Star team Saturday, but he's certainly put up worthy numbers in the first half. Through 85 games, he's slashing .285/.378/.536 with 19 home runs, 56 RBI, 44 runs and two stolen bases.

Red Sox's Sonny Gray: Dominant after All-Star snub
Gray (10-1) earned the win over the Angels on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over six innings.
Gray gave up a solo homer to Josh Lowe in the second inning but otherwise kept the Angels off the scoreboard. The veteran righty needed just 70 pitches (48 strikes) to complete six frames and record his seventh straight quality start. Gray has been filthy during that stretch, posting a 1.97 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 48:12 K:BB across 45.2 innings. He was somewhat shockingly omitted from the announcement of All-Star teams Saturday, but that shouldn't lessen the impact of his performance so far on what has been a disappointing first half for Boston. Among qualified AL hurlers, Gray ranks second in ERA (2.61), 10th in WHIP (1.10) and first in wins (10).

Red Sox's Connelly Early: Getting second opinion
Early (elbow) will seek a second opinion, MLB.com reports.
Early underwent an MRI earlier this week, which revealed posterior elbow inflammation, but the left-hander wants to confirm that. The Red Sox placed him on the 15-day injured list after he exited a start against the Nationals after tossing four scoreless innings.

Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Plates two runs Friday
Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's win over the Angels.
Gonzalez smacked his first triple of the season in the second inning, and he later delivered a bases-loaded, two-run single in the top of the third, scoring Wilyer Abreu and Willson Contreras. Gonzalez underwent shoulder surgery in March and didn't make his season debut until June 28. He's gone 5-for-15 at the plate since then.

Red Sox's Aroldis Chapman: Notches 17th save
Chapman recorded his 17th save of the season Friday against the Angels after tossing a scoreless ninth inning, allowing two hits and striking out one.
Chapman went 4-for-6 in save chances in June, giving up six runs (five earned) and posting a 7.50 ERA and 2.50 WHIP across six innings. Even though this was far from his cleanest outing, at least he got the job done while protecting the Red Sox's three-run lead in the ninth, in the process becoming MLB's new strikeout king among relievers. Chapman has 17 saves in 19 chances this season, posting a 2.10 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 11.6 K/9 across 25.2 innings (27 appearances).

Red Sox's Jake Bennett: Strong outing in win
Bennett (3-3) earned the win against the Angels on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six over 7.2 innings. He also tossed a wild pitch but did not walk a batter.
This was Bennett's longest outing of the season and he came just four outs shy of tossing a complete game, though by the time he left the mound, he was already at 92 pitches (61 strikes). Bennett has been pitching very well of late, and this was his fourth consecutive outing allowing two earned runs or fewer. He owns a 1.78 ERA and 0.67 WHIP across 25.1 innings over that stretch, and he's slated to make his next start on the road against the White Sox.

Red Sox's Anthony Seigler: Out of Friday's lineup
Seigler is not in the Red Sox's starting lineup against the Angels on Friday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.
Seigler has faced starting southpaws this season, but he will be on the bench for the beginning of Friday's contest while Romy Gonzalez starts at the keystone and bats sixth against Angels left-hander Reid Detmers. Seigler has gone 12-for-31 (.387) with one steal, four walks, one home run, three RBI and six runs scored over his last nine games.

Red Sox's Patrick Sandoval: Could join Boston's rotation
Sandoval (biceps) is an option to replace Connelly Early (elbow) in Boston's rotation, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy mentioned Sandoval or Brayan Bello as potential fill-ins for Early, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with left elbow inflammation. Sandoval, whose rehab assignment ends Saturday, will make one more start at Double-A Portland this weekend and is scheduled to throw around 70 pitches. With a scheduled day off coming Monday, however, Boston won't need a fifth starter until July 11.
