Mariners' George Kirby: HIt hard in loss
Kirby (8-10) took the loss against the Brewers on Thursday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 3.1 innings.
Kirby surrendered all six runs in a nightmare first inning, and he allowed 12 hard-hit balls overall while generating just six whiffs on 84 pitches. It continued an inconsistent year for the 28-year-old, who's now allowed 11 earned runs over his past two starts after yielding just one earned run through his first two August outings. He owns a 4.18 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 117:33 K:BB across 140 innings this season and will aim to rebound in a home matchup with the Phillies next week.

Mariners' Kade Anderson: Making debut Saturday
The Mariners are expected to select Anderson's contract from Double-A Arkansas to start Saturday's game against the Cubs, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Widely viewed as one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball, Anderson has been incredible at Double-A this season, pitching to a ludicrous 1.06 ERA and 0.64 WHIP to go with a 135:13 K:BB across 93.1 innings. The 22-year-old's dominance will allow him to skip Triple-A entirely and head straight to the big leagues, further bolstering a Mariners rotation that's put up a 3.89 ERA this year. His first test in the big leagues will come against a Cubs offense that's logged a .772 OPS since the beginning of the month, but the young lefty is still worth rostering in virtually all formats.

Mariners' Bryan Woo: Throws bullpen session Thursday
Woo (shoulder) threw his normal between-starts bullpen session Thursday, Zach Sweet of MLB.com reports.
Woo had to leave his last outing versus the Astros on Sunday after 75 pitches because of right shoulder soreness. However, Woo and the Mariners downplayed the issue at the time, and he appears in line to make his next scheduled start Saturday against the Cubs, provided he bounces back from Thursday's mound work with no hiccups.

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Exiting starting nine
Raleigh is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Milwaukee.
Raleigh is slashing just .104/.271/.229 in August as his season-long offensive struggles continue. Jhonny Pereda will fill in at catcher for the Mariners in the series finale while Raleigh regroups.

Mariners' Josh Naylor: Extends hit streak in win
Naylor went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 7-5 win over the Brewers.
Naylor delivered a two-run single in the second inning before notching his 25th steal in the seventh. The first baseman has now hit safely in nine straight contests, posting four multi-hit efforts along with two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored over that stretch. On the season, he's slashing .270/.333/.375 with 10 homers, 46 RBI, 47 runs scored and 25 stolen bases across 506 plate appearances.

Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Labors in win
Gilbert (10-7) earned the win against the Brewers on Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks with five strikeouts over five innings.
Gilbert was spotted an early lead and battled enough to win despite throwing just 58 of 100 pitches for strikes and matching a season high with four walks. While it wasn't his best performance, the 29-year-old has now yielded three earned runs or fewer in each of his six outings since the All-Star break, posting four quality starts and going 3-1 during that span. He'll take a 3.35 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 157:37 K:BB across 150.1 innings this season into a home matchup with the Phillies next week.

Mariners' Andres Munoz: Earns 23rd save
Munoz earned the save in Wednesday's 7-5 win over the Brewers, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.
Munoz was called on to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning and did so on just nine pitches. The 27-year-old has now converted back-to-back save chances following a blowup appearance Friday, and he's held opponents scoreless in nine of 12 outings since the All-Star break. On the year, he's 23-for-30 in save opportunities to go along with a 4.27 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 73:18 K:BB across 46.1 innings.

Mariners' Brock Rodden: Handling everyday role at shortstop
Rodden will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
Since being called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Rodden has started at shortstop in each of the Mariners' ensuing five games. Rodden has gotten off to a nice start to his big-league career by going 4-for-13 with two doubles, three walks, three RBI and two runs, but his playing time will likely fall by the wayside once J.P. Crawford (wrist) returns from the injured list. Crawford is slated to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A on Thursday and could be ready to rejoin the Mariners within a week.

Mariners' Luke Raley: Moved to 60-day IL
The Mariners transferred Raley (forearm) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.
The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for left-hander Jhonathan Diaz, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma. The move also means Raley will be sidelined for the rest of the regular season, though he would be eligible to play in the postseason should the Mariners qualify and if he's made a full recovery from his left forearm strain. He'll finish the 2026 campaign with a .225/.284/.439 slash line with 15 home runs, one stolen base, 39 RBI and 28 runs across 287 plate appearances.

Mariners' Josh Simpson: Heading back to Triple-A
The Mariners optioned Simpson to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Seattle called up lefty Jhonathan Diaz from Triple-A in a corresponding move, giving the Mariners a fresh arm in the bullpen. Simpson was unlikely to be available for another day or two after he needed 33 pitches to record two outs in his appearance during Tuesday's 22-0 loss to the Brewers. He gave up five runs on three hits and two walks in the outing, inflating his ERA to 9.82 and his WHIP to 2.05 over 7.1 big-league innings on the season.

Mariners' Jhonathan Diaz: Brought up by Seattle
The Mariners selected Diaz's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Diaz has spent the entire 2026 season in Triple-A, where he's produced a 6.22 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 83:42 K:BB over 111.1 innings. He's been used in both the rotation and bullpen in his limited time in the majors over the last five seasons, but the Mariners will likely plan for Diaz to provide some extra coverage in relief after Josh Simpson and Nick Davila both tossed 30-plus pitches during Tuesday's 22-0 loss to the Brewers. Simpson was optioned to clear room on the active roster for Diaz.

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Cleared for rehab assignment
Crawford (wrist) will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, Tim Booth of The Seattle Times reports.
Crawford has been cleared to take the next step in his recovery from the left wrist inflammation that landed him on the 10-day injured list July 31. The veteran infielder may need only a couple of outings in the minors before he's cleared to return to the big club for the final stretch of the season. Prior to his stint on the IL, Crawford was slashing .212/.330/.345 with one steal, 10 home runs and 30 RBI over 364 plate appearances.

Mariners' Taylor Ward: Drawing back into starting nine as DH
Ward (quadriceps) will start at designated hitter and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
A sore quad kept Ward out of the starting nine for each of the previous five games, though he made enough improvement for the Mariners to make him available off the bench Tuesday, per MLB.com. However, with the Mariners falling behind by six runs after five innings in what was ultimately a 22-0 loss, Ward wasn't called upon to pinch hit. He'll be able to return to the lineup Wednesday in a non-defensive role, and assuming his quad responds well, Ward should be ready to resume playing right field in short order.

Mariners' Bryce Miller: Tagged for six runs in rout
Miller (4-7) took the loss Tuesday against the Brewers, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.2 innings.
Miller held Milwaukee to a single unearned run through his first four innings before everything unraveled in the fifth. He was charged with five runs in the frame, with Christian Yelich's three-run homer delivering the biggest blow, before Seattle's bullpen allowed the game to turn into a 22-0 rout. It marked Miller's first start this season in which he failed to complete five innings, while the five earned runs matched his season high. The right-hander has struggled mightily over his last seven outings, posting a 0-5 record with a 6.57 ERA. On the season, he owns a 3.71 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 87:18 K:BB across 89.2 innings. Miller will seek to find any kind of improvement in his next start, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Cubs.
