Rays' Liam Hicks: Swats grand slam in team debut
Hicks went 2-for-5 with a grand slam, a double and a walk in Tuesday's 9-7 extra-innings win over the Rockies.
Hicks was dealt from Miami at the trade deadline and had a fantastic performance in his Rays debut. His grand slam came with two outs in the third inning, and he ended up with his fifth multi-hit effort in his last eight games when all was said and done. The catcher is batting .284 with an .808 OPS, 15 homers, 66 RBI, 55 runs scored, three stolen bases, 10 doubles and one triple over 102 contests this season. Hicks' steady bat should make him the favorite for starts at catcher over Nick Fortes, especially against right-handed pitchers.

Rays' Liam Hicks: Lands in Tampa Bay via trade
The Rays acquired Hicks from the Marlins on Monday in exchange for infielders Brayden Taylor and Adrian Santana and right-hander Jacob Kisting, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Hicks has turned in a robust .282/.363/.432 batting line with 14 home runs and a 40:39 BB:K over 101 games this season. He's split time between catcher, first base and designated hitter in 2026, but Hicks should in line to serve as the primary catcher in Tampa Bay. He's under team control through 2030.

Hicks went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Monday's 8-5 loss to Houston.
Hicks crushed a hanging curveball from Ronel Blanco over the right-field fence for a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Hicks is hitting .322 through 15 games in July, though Monday's long ball marked just his third extra-base hit of the month and first homer since June 12. Overall, the 27-year-old is slashing .288/.360/.457 with 14 homers, 60 RBI, 53 runs and two stolen bases across 89 contests.

Making his second straight start at first base since coming off the IL, Hicks has banged out two hits and scored a run in each game since recovering from a lower-back strain. The 27-year-old's breakout campaign doesn't appear to be slowing down -- over 19 contests since the beginning of June, Hicks has produced a .324/.405/.471 slash line with five extra-base hits, including two homers, eight RBI and 15 runs.

Hicks participated in full baseball activities Friday and is swinging without limitations and able to catch. Even though he'll remain out for the Marlins' opening game in Colorado, Hicks looks like a viable option in weekly leagues that start two catchers.

Hicks is awaiting MRI results on his injured lower back, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Hicks was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a lower-back strain, and the Marlins will have a better idea as to proceed with his rehab after the MRI results are in. Manager Clayton McCullough said Monday that Hicks feels improved but is "still stiff." The club could have more on Hicks' status later Monday.

Marlins' Liam Hicks: Heads to IL with back strain
The Marlins placed Hicks on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a lower-back strain.
Hicks was scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's 6-3 win over the Giants due to what was initially reported as lower-back tightness, and he'll miss at least another nine days after being diagnosed with a strain. Per Christina De Nicola of MLB.com, manager Clayton McCullough said that he believes that Hicks' injury was detected quickly enough for him to avoid an extended absence, though the skipper acknowledged that the Marlins won't known until around the middle of the week whether the 27-year-old has a chance at returning from the IL when first eligible June 30. Griffin Conine (hamstring) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Sunday and is the most likely candidate to fill Hicks' vacated spot in the lineup.
