  • Ben Rice 1B | NYY

Yankees' Ben Rice: Reaches 20 homers

Rice went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional run and two walks versus the White Sox in a 12-2 victory Tuesday.

Rice contributed to a big day on offense for New York with a two-run blast to right field in the fourth inning. It was the slugger's 20th long ball of the campaign, making him the eighth big-leaguer this season to reach that mark. Rice has been one of baseball's most outstanding hitters this season, ranking second among qualified players with a 1.006 OPS, fourth with 53 runs scored and 11th with 49 RBI.

  • Astros' Taylor Trammell: Sitting against righty

Trammell is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

Trammell will be left out of the starting nine for the fourth time in the last five games, with two of those absences having come against right-handed starting pitchers. His downturn in playing time coincides with the recent call-up of Joey Loperfido, who could be prioritized in left field ahead of Trammell.

  • Brice Matthews CF | HOU

Astros' Brice Matthews: Sitting after four straight starts

Matthews is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

Matthews will move to the bench after he had made three starts in the outfield and one at second base over the last four games while going a collective 3-for-13 with a pair of extra-base knocks. The Astros should continue to make room for Matthews in the lineup when they face left-handed pitching, but his opportunities to play against righties may become more sporadic now that Houston has all its key hitters back from the injured list except for Carlos Correa (ankle), who is out for the season.

  • Jose Caballero SS | NYY

Yankees' Jose Caballero: Homers in second straight game

Caballero went 2-for-4 with a home run and two total RBI in Wednesday's 12-2 victory versus the White Sox.

Caballero plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning and capped the scoring in the contest with a solo blast to left field in the eighth. It was the second straight game with a long for Caballero, who has flexed his power more than ever this season -- through 60 contests, he's gone deep seven times, putting him near the career-high mark of nine home runs he clubbed across 139 games in 2024. Caballero has added 15 thefts and a .263/.315/.419 slash line this season, giving him plenty of fantasy value with eligibility at multiple positions.

  • Yankees' Paul Goldschmidt: Continues resurgent season

Goldschmidt went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 12-2 win over the White Sox.

Goldschmidt hit one of four Yankees homers in the big win, ripping a two-run shot to left field in the fourth inning. The veteran slugger has helped keep New York's offense humming even without Giancarlo Stanton (calf) and Aaron Judge (ribs), as Goldschmidt's .913 OPS through 46 games ranks second on the club behind only Ben Rice. Goldschmidt has been even better since Judge went down, posting a 1.056 OPS with four homers, 14 RBI and one stolen base over 12 contests this month.

  • James Outman CF | DET

Tigers' James Outman: Shifting to bench for series finale

Outman is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Outman drew starts in center field in the first two games of the series, but after going 0-for-6 with five strikeouts between those contests, he'll hit the bench for the finale. Matt Vierling will take Outman's spot in the Detroit outfield and will bat seventh.

  • Zach McKinstry 2B | DET

Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Hitting bench Wednesday

McKinstry is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

McKinstry will get the afternoon off after he went 5-for-25 with a solo home run, four walks and four additional runs while starting seven of the Tigers' last eight games. Though he appears to have a grasp on a near-everyday role for now, McKinstry's playing time could dry up if he continues to underwhelm at the plate. He's produced a .168/.258/.245 slash line over 165 plate appearances on the season.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Drawing rare start Wednesday

Rogers will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Rogers will enter the starting nine for the series finale while the Tigers give top backstop Dillon Dingler a break from catching but keep his bat in the lineup at designated hitter. With Dingler handling one of the heavier workloads among all catchers this season, Rogers has been limited to just 68 plate appearances through Detroit's first 73 games.

  • Astros' Mike Burrows: Turn in rotation skipped

The Astros will skip Burrows' next turn in the rotation, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Burrows has been tagged for 16 runs (13 earned) while serving up five home runs over 15 innings covering his last three starts. He's posted a 5.86 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 14 outings this season. Manager Joe Espada said Burrows will be available out of the bullpen this weekend but could rejoin the rotation next week. However, with Cristian Javier (shoulder) due back soon, Burrows' status as a member of the Astros' rotation is tenuous.

  • Yainer Diaz C | HOU

Astros' Yainer Diaz: Exiting starting nine

Diaz is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Tigers.

Diaz started Tuesday's contest in his return from the injured list, but he will take a seat during Wednesday's matinee. It will be Christian Vazquez doing the catching in Thursday's rubber match.
