Penguins' Blake Lizotte: Set to return for playoffs
Lizotte (upper body) said Thursday that he'll be available for Game 1 of the Penguins' first-round playoff series against the Flyers, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports.
Lizotte has been sidelined since mid-March due to his upper-body injury, but he was on the ice for Thursday's practice session in a regular sweater, and he'll be ready to return to game action for the start of the postseason. Across 55 regular-season appearances this year, Lizotte recorded seven goals, 12 assists, 49 hits, 35 blocked shots and 25 PIM while averaging 13:52 of ice time.

Penguins' Connor Dewar: Ready for Game 1
Dewar (lower body) indicated Thursday that he'll be ready to return in time for Game 1 of the Penguins' first-round playoff series against the Flyers, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports.
Dewar missed the final four games of the regular season due to a lower-body injury, but he practiced in a regular sweater Thursday and will be back in action for the start of the postseason. Dewar generated 14 goals, 16 assists, 144 hits, 46 blocked shots and 19 PIM over 78 regular-season appearances, and he should reclaim a fourth-line role now that he's healthy.

Penguins' Parker Wotherspoon: Practicing with club
Wotherspoon (rest) took part in Thursday's practice session, Michelle Crechiolo of the Penguins' official site reports.
Wotherspoon sat out two of the Penguins' last three contests while resting up for the playoffs. The 28-year-old defenseman has put together a career year for the Penguins, producing personal bests in games (80), goals (three) and assists (27). While Wotherspoon shouldn't be considered an offensive stud, 30 points would be welcome production for a low-end option.

Penguins' Kris Letang: On ice Thursday
Letang (rest) should be ready for the playoffs after returning to practice Thursday, Michelle Crechiolo of the Penguins' official site reports.
Letang is currently mired in a 25-game goal drought dating back to Jan. 1 versus the Red Wings. During that stretch, the blueliner has registered 14 assists and 38 shots, so he is still managing to produce at a decent clip. While the Montreal native is no longer on the Pens' No. 1 power-play unit, he should still see plenty of minutes with the second group.

Karlsson has recorded 10 multi-point games over his last 18 outings, producing a combined nine goals and 17 assists, including nine power-play points. The veteran defenseman is coming off his best season with the Penguins (66 points) and should continue to produce at an elite level heading into the postseason.

Girard has yet to find the back of the net since joining the Penguins at the deadline, producing seven helpers, 10 shots and 21 blocks while paired up with Kris Letang. While the 27-year-old Girard has yet to see much in the way of power-play ice time with Pittsburgh, it's a role he has filled in the past and could do so again if called upon.

Rakell was limited to just 60 games this season, tallying 24 goals and 24 helpers, including 16 power-play points along the way. The Swede has found himself primarily shifted to center this season, allowing Evgeni Malkin to move to the wing. In addition to anchoring the second line, Rakell should continue to feature on the No. 1 power-play unit.

Chinakhov (rest) slotted into the Pens' first line at practice Thursday, Michelle Crechiolo of the Penguins' official site reports.
Chinakhov has been a wonder for the Penguins after the team brought him in via trade, racking up 18 goals and 18 assists in 43 appearances. Heading into the playoffs, the 25-year-old winger will suit up on the right side of Sidney Crosby, a plum assignment that figures to see Chinakhov produce at a top level.

Crosby (rest) was in his usual first-line role at Thursday's practice session, Michelle Crechiolo of the Penguins' official site reports.
Crosby was rested for two of the Penguins' last three contests, no doubt as part of his recovery from multiple knee injuries this season. Despite missing some time, the veteran center still racked up 74 points in 68 games this season and might have been able to achieve the 90-point mark for the fourth consecutive year were it not for the missed injury time.

Dewar was previously deemed week-to-week but seems to be trending in the right direction ahead of the postseason. The 26-year-old center has missed the Pens' prior four contests due to his lower-body problem. The Manitoba native is currently mired in a 15-game goal drought during which he notched five assists, 21 hits and 11 shots. If given the all-clear, Dewar should reclaim a spot on the fourth line.

Lizotte has been sidelined since March 14 against the Mammoth due to his upper-body problem, a stretch of 16 games on the shelf. When healthy, the 28-year-old Minnesota native logged seven goals and 12 assists in 55 regular-season contests. If given the all-clear for Game 1 of the postseason, Lizotte could step into the lineup in favor of Elmer Soderblom.

Hayes was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday.
Hayes got his first taste of NHL action in the second half of the 2025-26 campaign, recording five goals, 23 hits, 12 PIM and nine blocked shots while averaging 11:10 of ice time across 16 appearances. He has 23 goals and 38 points in 40 AHL outings this season. Hayes should see plenty of playing time during the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Koppanen was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday.
Koppanen hasn't found the back of the net in 13 appearances for Pittsburgh this year, but he has notched eight goals and 15 assists in 42 minor-league contests. The 28-year-old forward will prepare for the Calder Cup Playoffs. He probably won't see additional NHL action in 2025-26 unless there are significant injuries.

Koivunen was returned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday.
Koivunen has been struggling offensively of late, going 12 games without finding the back of the net while registering just eight shots and two helpers. Unless there is an injury, Koivunen will be hard-pressed to make his way back into the NHL lineup. In the meantime, he should see plenty of action as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton prepares for the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Penguins' Rafael Harvey-Pinard: Heads to minors
Harvey-Pinard was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday.
Harvey-Pinard had a plus-1 rating and two shots in 11:01 of ice time in Pittsburgh's 7-5 loss to St. Louis on Tuesday. It was Harvey-Pinard's only appearance with the NHL squad in 2025-26, but he has recorded 19 goals, 36 points and 31 PIM across 64 outings with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has clinched a playoff berth, so Harvey-Pinard will be able to aid the squad in the upcoming Calder Cup Playoffs.

Penguins' Rutger McGroarty: Returned to minors
McGroarty was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday.
McGroarty has struggled to stay in the NHL this season, but he made 24 appearances for the big club. In those outings, the 22-year-old winger notched three goals, three assists and 37 shots while averaging 11:58 of ice time. McGroarty should see ample playing time in the Calder Cup Playoffs. He will almost certainly be among the first call-ups should the need for reinforcements arise.

Hayes has a goal and two assists over his last three outings since he returned to the lineup as a fill-in while the Penguins rest players ahead of the playoffs. That may not be enough to get him a spot in the postseason lineup, but he's a veteran who will be ready to step in at a moment's notice. Hayes has eight points, 45 shots on net, 32 hits and a minus-1 rating through 28 appearances this season.

Penguins' Elmer Soderblom: Finds twine in loss
Soderblom scored a goal and added two PIM in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Blues.
Soderblom has looked good lately with four goals and four assists over his last 10 outings. He's done much of that from a bottom-six role, though he's seen a slight uptick in ice time while the Penguins rest their key players. Soderblom looks to be at least a fourth-line lock to start the playoffs. Between Pittsburgh and Detroit this season, he has seven goals, 13 points, 69 shots on net, 99 hits and a minus-1 rating over 59 appearances.
