Bruins' David Pastrnak: Tasked with captaincy
Pastrnak was named the Bruins' 28th captain in franchise history Sunday.
Pastrnak reached the century mark in points for the fourth straight regular season in 2025-26, but his goal scoring took a major dip. The star winger finished with just 29 goals last year after netting at least 40 in four straight seasons, as his 11.1 shooting percentage was his lowest since the 2020-21 campaign. The 30-year-old made up for it in the playmaking department, however, with his 71 helpers marking a career high. Pastrnak also registered just 261 shots in 2025-26 after recording at least 312 in each of the previous four years, which is a statistic that's somewhat surprising considering his 20:39 of average ice time represented a career high. Nonetheless, Pastrnak's dual-threat ability makes him one of the best options at forward in the fantasy realm. The 2014 first-round pick is projected to begin the season on the top line alongside Elias Lindholm and newcomer JJ Peterka, per Kevin Paul Dupont of The Boston Globe.

Bruins' Henri Jokiharju: Heading to waivers
Jokiharju was placed on waivers by the Bruins on Sunday, Conor Ryan of The Boston Globe.
Jokiharju was on the fringe of making Boston's Opening Night roster after the team signed right-shot defensemen Will Borgen and Connor Clifton in the offseason. The 27-year-old Jokiharju played in half of Boston's regular-season games during 2025-26, where he posted two goals, 15 points, 40 shots on net and 37 blocked shots. If he goes unclaimed over the next 24 hours, he will likely start the season playing big minutes for AHL Providence. However, he could easily return to Boston if the team runs into injury trouble within the defensive core.

Bruins' Matthew Poitras: Lands on IR
Poitras (lower body) was placed on injured reserve by the Bruins on Sunday, per Conor Ryan of The Boston Globe.
Poitras suffered his lower-body injury during Tuesday's practice session and was kept out of the Bruins' preseason finale Friday. The 22-year-old center saw limited action at the NHL level last season, where he posted a goal and eight shots on net across three regular-season appearances. When he's healthy enough to return from IR, the Bruins will have to make a decision on whether he will factor into the NHL lineup or to start his 2026-27 campaign with AHL Providence, where he posted 44 points in 69 regular-season games a year ago.

Bruins' Lukas Reichel: Heading to waivers
Reichel was placed on waivers by the Bruins on Saturday.
Reichel signed a one-year contract extension with the Bruins after the team acquired him near the 2026 trade deadline in exchange for a sixth-round pick. The 24-year-old winger showcased his offensive capabilities in limited NHL action last season, scoring three goals, distributing five assists and placing 24 shots on net across 29 regular-season games between Chicago, Vancouver and Boston. If unclaimed, Reichel is set to open the 2026-27 campaign with AHL Providence, where he will likely play a large role.

After a productive first year of seeing regular playing time at the NHL level, Steeves will begin the 2026-27 campaign in the minors if he goes unclaimed. The 26-year-old winger was solid from his bottom-six role, where he posted nine goals, 16 points, 55 shots on net, 144 hits and 27 blocked shots across 43 regular-season games. Swayman allowed three goals on 35 shots in Friday's 3-2 preseason overtime loss to the Capitals.
Swayman allowed four goals on 56 shots over his two preseason games. The 27-year-old is the Bruins' unquestioned No. 1 between the pipes and will likely see a significant workload in 2026-27 since he'll have an inexperienced backup in Michael DiPietro. Swayman has played at least 55 contests in consecutive seasons and could push for 60 if he stays healthy this year.
