Scherzer won't start as scheduled Tuesday against the Orioles since the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

The right-hander had been lined up to potentially make two starts during the final week of the regular season, but Tuesday's postponement likely means Toronto will have to go in a different direction Sunday against Cincinnati. The game is being made up via a doubleheader Wednesday, with Scherzer likely to start one of those contests. The 42-year-old has a 4.26 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 40:20 K:BB across 50.2 innings since returning from back and thumb injuries in late July.

Bassitt won't start as scheduled Tuesday against the Blue Jays since the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

The contest will be made up via a doubleheader Wednesday as the two teams conclude the season series in Baltimore. Bassitt will presumably start one of those contests in what should be his final appearance of the season. Since returning from back surgery in mid-August, the veteran right-hander has a 3.76 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 35:15 K:BB across 40.2 innings (seven starts).

Leiter (ankle/biceps) threw a bullpen session at Globe Life Field on Sunday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Leiter had been shut down for a couple of weeks after experiencing biceps soreness in his return from June ankle surgery. The right-hander felt good with the session and may throw another bullpen this week before the Rangers make a decision on his next step.

Matthews (9-11) took the loss Monday, allowing five runs on eight hits and no walks over five innings against the Giants. He struck out nine.

Matthews got roughed up early, giving up four runs in the first two frames, though he still racked up his highest strikeout total since July 31. In four September starts, the right-hander has posted a 6.87 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB across 18.1 innings. Overall, Matthews owns a 4.90 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 116:39 K:BB in 130.1 innings (23 starts) and is tentatively lined up to make his final start of the regular season Sunday against the Rangers.

Yesavage did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing one run on a hit and no walks over two innings against the Orioles. He struck out three.

In his first outing since Aug. 4 after recovering from surgery to repair a torn meniscus, Yesavage's only blemish across two frames (40 pitches) was a solo homer to Pete Alonso in the first inning. A limited workload wasn't surprising for the young right-hander, as his lone rehab appearance with Triple-A Buffalo was limited to two-thirds of an inning. On the year, Yesavage owns a 3.67 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 94:46 K:BB across 95.2 innings (19 starts), and it remains to be seen if he'll make another appearance before the conclusion of the regular season.

The Royals activated Gonsolin (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

Gonsolin logged a rehab start Thursday against Triple-A Iowa, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three over five innings, and the club has determined that he's ready to return from the shelf after undergoing Tommy John surgery with an internal brace procedure in August 2025. It remains to be seen whether he'll draw a start before the 2026 season comes to a close or if he'll work out of bullpen for the final six games of the year.

Baz did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over 6.2 innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out two.

Baz was jumped on early, surrendering three runs in the first frame, but he settled in and churned out a quality start. The right-hander was removed from his previous start Tuesday versus the Mets after being struck in the elbow by a comebacker, but making his turn in the rotation and operating with a normal workload suggests it's a non-issue. With an overall 6-15 record, 4.11 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 154:63 K:BB across 179.2 innings (31 starts), Baz is lined up to toe the slab this weekend against the Yankees to close the regular season.

Montero (10-9) earned the win Monday over the Nationals. He allowed a hit and a walk while striking out five over four scoreless innings of bulk relief.

Entering after three innings from River Ryan, Montero spun four shutout frames to earn his 10th win of the campaign. It was a positive showing for the right-hander after surrendering 10 runs in 12 innings over his past three starts. On the year, Montero owns a 3.48 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 107:37 K:BB in 155 innings (32 appearances), and it remains to be seen if he'll make another appearance before the conclusion of the regular season. However, it wouldn't be surprising if he works in tandem with Ryan again for the season finale Sunday versus Pittsburgh.

Ryan looked strong in his Tigers debut and first big-league appearance since August 2024, keeping the Nationals off the scoreboard before departing at 43 pitches (26 strikes). The shortened workload doesn't come as much of a surprise given that the 28-year-old logged just 4.2 frames over two starts with Triple-A Toledo before being recalled. In five career starts in the majors, Ryan has posted a stellar 1.16 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB across 23.1 innings. The right-hander is tentatively lined up to make one more start to close the regular season Sunday against the Pirates.

The Tigers recalled Ryan from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Ryan will make his Tigers debut Monday with a start against the Nationals, though he will be limited after topping out at 2.2 innings and 39 pitches over two starts at Triple-A Toledo upon returning from the 7-day injured list. Acquired from the Dodgers on Aug. 2, Ryan missed all of 2025 due to Tommy John surgery and was shelved for nearly three months by a hamstring injury in 2026. The 28-year-old has flashed electric stuff when on the bump, however, and logged a 1.33 ERA and 18:9 K:BB over 20.1 frames in four starts for Los Angeles in 2024. Ryan is in line for a second start this week on Sunday versus the Pirates, though his workload will be limited in that outing as well.
