Cantillo (10-9) earned the win against the Athletics on Friday, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out five across six innings.

Daniel Espino served as Cleveland's opener Friday, though he gave up a three-run home run to Zack Gelof in the first inning. Cantillo was brought out for the second frame, and the 26-year-old southpaw proceeded to keep the Athletics off the board over the next six innings while limiting the A's to only three baserunners. He's tossed two consecutive scoreless outings, and overall Cantillo has a 3.74 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 167:79 K:BB across 154 innings this season. He figures to make his next appearance -- as a starter or otherwise -- next week against the Red Sox at Fenway Park in his final outing of the regular season.

Suarez (8-4) earned the win against the Rays on Friday, allowing one run on three hits and five walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings.

The five free passes were the most of Suarez's career, but the 31-year-old southpaw limited the damage to just one run during Friday's outing, falling one out short from the quality start. He's given up only two earned runs over his last three outings spanning 19.2 innings, which has him at a 3.27 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 143.1 innings this season. Suarez is slated to face the Guardians at home next week in what figures to be his last start of the regular season.

Manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Weathers (forearm) likely won't return in time to pitch again in the regular season, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Out since Aug. 23 with a forearm flexor strain, Weathers was initially expected to return from the injured list and work as a reliever during the final stretch of the regular season. However, it no longer seems like he'll have enough time to build up before the campaign ends Sept. 27. The 26-year-old southpaw may still have a chance to pitch in the postseason, though the Yankees will likely wait to see how he progresses over the next week or so before determining his playoff availability.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Friday that it "would be tough" for Bieber (shoulder) to return from the 15-day injured list before the end of the regular season, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

Bieber is scheduled to throw a side session Saturday, and the Blue Jays are hoping that the veteran right-hander can return if the team qualifies for the playoffs. Bieber continues to recover from right teres major inflammation that landed him on the 15-day injured list in late August.

The Orioles recalled Povich from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Baltimore also announced Povich will officially start Friday's game against the Brewers. Codi Heuer was optioned to Norfolk in a corresponding move. Povich has appeared in seven games (six starts) with the Orioles this season, logging a 4.05 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 25:13 K:BB across 33.1 innings. He's actually been worse in Triple-A, posting a 6.28 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 69:23 K:BB over 13 starts.

Sears is slated to start Friday's game against the White Sox at Rate Field.

Sears will draw his third start of September after posting a 4.50 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB over 10 innings between appearances against the Guardians and Rockies. The rookie left-hander could drop out of the rotation in the final week of the season if Jack Flaherty (forearm) is cleared to return from the 15-day injured list.

Sandlin will start Friday's game against the Tigers in Chicago, James Fegan of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

After being recalled from Triple-A Charlotte over the weekend, Sandlin made what was believed to be a spot start in the White Sox's 3-1 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday, when he struck out five while allowing three unearned runs on two hits and no walks over 5.2 innings. However, with manager Will Venable announcing Thursday that Luis Castillo has been moved to the bullpen, Sandlin will have a chance to stick around in the rotation for the rest of the regular season and potentially into the postseason. Over six total appearances (four starts) with the big club, Sandlin has delivered a 5.64 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 29:12 K:BB across 30.1 frames.

Oviedo (elbow) allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out four for Triple-A Worcester on Thursday.

Oviedo, who was beginning a rehab assignment with the WooSox, threw 30 pitches (20 strikes). It's unlikely he throws again for Worcester, which has been eliminated from the Triple-A International League postseason. That leaves a potential return to Boston, where Oviedo could operate as a multi-inning arm out of the bullpen.

Gonsolin (elbow) allowed three runs on four hits and no walks while striking out three over five innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

Gonsolin was originally supposed to pitch Sunday, but the right-hander didn't take the ball until Thursday. In his fourth rehab start while recovering from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace, the 32-year-old matched his pitch total from last time out, throwing 64 pitches with 38 going for strikes. There's still time for Gonsolin to potentially make a start for the Royals, though the longtime Dodger may ultimately not make it back to a big-league mound before season's end.

Cantillo is expected to pitch in bulk relief behind opener Daniel Espino in Friday's game against the Athletics, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

The Guardians will go back to the well with the Espino/Cantillo pairing for a second straight turn through the rotation after the duo combined for 10 punchouts over six scoreless frames in a 4-3 loss to the Twins last Saturday. Though Cantillo hasn't notched a victory in any of his last six appearances (five starts), being deployed in bulk relief should nonetheless increase his chances of qualifying for a win more than if he was used as a traditional starter.
