Top Reds News

  • Reds' Blake Dunn: Heading to bench Wednesday

Dunn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Dunn has hit a bit of a lull at the plate, slashing just .125/.222/.188 with one double, two walks, one steal and two RBI over his last four games. The Reds likely aren't ready to pull the plug on Dunn as an everyday player, but he could end up becoming an odd man out of the lineup more frequently if Cincinnati wants to open up more playing time Edwin Arroyo or Noelvi Marte. Arroyo will replace Dunn as the Reds' leadoff man Wednesday after batting ninth in his previous three starts.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Receiving rest for day game

Stephenson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

After going 1-for-3 at the dish while catching nine innings of the Reds' 5-3 win Tuesday night, Stephenson will receive a breather for Wednesday's day game. Jose Trevino will check in for Stephenson behind the plate and will bat eighth.

  • Reds' Emilio Pagan: Ramping up activity

Pagan (hamstring) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is scheduled to pitch in a simulated game/live batting practice session at Yankee Stadium on Friday, MLB.com reports.

Pagan, who threw a bullpen session over the weekend, has stacked up a few sessions and is moving on to live batting practice. The next step for the Reds' closer will be a rehab assignment. Pagan could rejoin the team by the end of June.

  • Reds' Pierce Johnson: Beginning rehab assignment Thursday

Johnson (elbow) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Johnson threw a simulated game/live batting practice session Monday and is ready for the next step. The reliever isn't expected to need much time in the minors and could be activated Friday.

  • Reds' Spencer Steer: Launches 11th homer

Steer went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's win over the Mets.

Steer capped off Cincinnati's four-run first inning by taking Kodai Senga deep for a solo shot, his 11th homer of the season. The 27-year-old has been stuck in a deep slump lately, going just 2-for-32 over his last 11 games with both hits leaving the yard. Despite the recent struggles, Steer has still provided solid production this season, batting .249 with a .770 OPS, 12 doubles, 28 RBI, 42 runs scored and three stolen bases across 275 plate appearances.

  • Reds' Sal Stewart: Drives in four during win

Stewart went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and four RBI in Tuesday's win over the Mets.

After Cincinnati opened the game with back-to-back walks, Stewart quickly capitalized by launching a three-run homer off Kodai Senga to give the Reds an early lead. He wasn't done there, adding an RBI single in the fifth inning to cap off a four-RBI performance. The long ball was Stewart's 14th of the season. The outburst was encouraging given his recent struggles, as he entered Tuesday batting just .184 with a .584 OPS in June. On the year, Stewart is slashing .252/.350/.456 with 13 doubles, 46 RBI, 39 runs scored and 11 stolen bases across 72 games.

  • Reds' Brady Singer: Grabs third win

Singer (3-6) earned the win Tuesday against the Mets, allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out five over five innings.

Singer got off to a strong start, retiring the first six batters he faced before running into trouble in the middle innings. The right-hander allowed seven total baserunners across the third and fourth innings but limited the damage to just one run on a Bo Bichette RBI-single after stranding the bases loaded in both frames. The three hits allowed were a season low, as his 1.61 WHIP this season illustrates the traffic he has allowed on the bases. Singer now owns a 5.32 ERA and 52:23 K:BB across 66 innings and is slated to face the Brewers at home in his next start.

  • Reds' Tony Santillan: Nails down fourth save Tuesday

Santillan struck out two while allowing one hit over one inning to get his fourth save of the season Tuesday night against the Mets.

Santillan has converted the Reds' last two saves and now has six consecutive scoreless outings. He credits seeing a clip from him from two years ago that inspired him to clean up his delivery, Charlie Goldsmith reports. On a team hurting for reliable relievers, Santillan looks to be their best healthy reliever and likely to get most of the Reds' saves until Emilio Pagan returns.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Ramping up recovery work

De La Cruz (hamstring) is scheduled to begin running Tuesday and Wednesday, and he will begin a rehab assignment Friday with Triple-A Gwinnett, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

After landing on the injured list June 1, De La Cruz is slated to begin physical activities Tuesday. The 24-year-old is expected to begin his rehab assignment with five innings of action Friday, a start at DH on Saturday and taking the field at shortstop Sunday for the Triple-A team. With De La Cruz's hamstring nearly 90 percent healed, the shortstop is much closer to joining the big-league club.

  • Reds' Sal Stewart: Logs 11th steal in win

Stewart went 1-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 12-0 win over the Mets.

Stewart reached base via a walk in the first inning and stole a base before scoring on Eugenio Suarez's three-run home run. For Stewart, the steal was his 11th of the season and first in 25 games. He doesn't look the part of a base stealer, but the corner infielder has been successful on 11 of 13 attempts this season and has double-digit steals every year between minors and majors since 2023.

  • Reds' JJ Bleday: Blasts 13th homer in blowout win

Bleday went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk and four RBI in Sunday's 12-0 win over the Mets.

With Cincinnati already in control, Bleday put an exclamation point on the offensive outburst by launching a three-run homer off David Peterson in the eighth inning. The blast was his 13th of the season and continued a recent power surge, as he has now homered three times over his last five games. The outfielder is now slashing .272/.367/.586 with 10 doubles, one triple, 34 RBI, 26 runs scored and two stolen bases across 188 plate appearances.

  • Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Drives in six with two homers

Suarez went 2-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI in Monday's 12-0 win over the Mets.

Suarez wasted no time powering Cincinnati's offense, launching a two-run homer off Tobias Myers in the first inning before adding a grand slam in the second to give the Reds an early lead they would never relinquish. The veteran third baseman did all of his damage in the game's first two frames, finishing with a season-high six RBI and recording his first multi-homer game of the year. Suarez is now batting .222 alongside a .682 OPS with seven home runs, seven doubles, 25 RBI and 16 runs scored across 45 games.

  • Reds' Chase Burns: Fans seven in eighth win

Burns (8-1) earned the win Monday against the Mets, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out seven over five scoreless innings.

Burns continued his remarkable campaign Monday, throwing 64 of his 100 pitches for strikes while racking up 19 whiffs. The right-hander was electric from the start, striking out six of the first eight batters he faced. He ran into trouble in both the fourth and fifth innings but escaped bases-loaded jams each time to preserve the shutout. Burns has now held opponents to two runs or fewer in 13 of his 14 starts this season and has recorded at least seven strikeouts in 11 of them. The 23-year-old now owns a stellar 2.01 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 95:26 K:BB across 80.2 innings. He slated to face the Yankees on the road in his next start.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Nearing rehab assignment

De La Cruz (hamstring) could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment this weekend at a yet-to-be-determined affiliate, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

The Reds plan to have De La Cruz test his strained right hamstring by running the bases Monday and Tuesday, and if all goes well, the 24-year-old will join a minor-league affiliate for what would presumably be a short rehab stint before he returns to the big club next week. While De La Cruz has been shelved, Matt McLain has taken over as the Reds' primary shortstop, which has cleared the way for Edwin Arroyo and Spencer Steer to pick up more reps at second base.

  • Reds' Nathaniel Lowe: Left out of starting nine

Lowe is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

The Reds will give Lowe a breather after he started six of the team's last seven games while going 6-for-15 with six walks and a run. Spencer Steer will step in for Lowe at first base and will bat cleanup.
