The Reds transferred Steer (wrist) to the 60-day injured list Friday.
The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Oswaldo Cabrera, who was claimed off waivers. Steer has been ramping up his activities recently as he works his way back from a partial tear of the tendon sheath in his wrist. Steer (wrist) has been taking dry swings and is preparing to hit off a velocity machine next week, MLB.com reports.
Steer, who is unlikely to play again during the 2026 regular season, will ramp up while the Reds finish the regular season on the road in Atlanta and Toronto. Following his work on the machine, Steer is ticketed for Arizona, where he may get at-bats in the Arizona Fall League.

Steer (wrist) was cleared Friday to begin range-of-motion activity, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Steer was examined in Arizona by a specialist, who cleared him to increase activity. "All is going really well," manager Terry Francona said. "He will begin more range of motion [exercises], start to get a bat in his hand." That's good news for Steer, but it doesn't guarantee he'll return before the end of the regular season. "The goal is we want him to have a normal offseason," Francona said. "We might be pushing it if we try to do it by the end of the season." The Reds are considering having Steer play in the Arizona Fall League, which is typically reserved for prospects.

Steer (wrist) is scheduled to be examined Sept. 11 to determine if he can begin swinging a bat, MLB.com reports.
To this point, Steer has been limited to strengthening exercises. It seems the hope would be that Steer could rejoin the club in the final days of the regular season, but there's also been talk of him being shut down. Steer had a follow-up visit with an orthopedic surgeon Friday. He has not yet been recommended for surgery, and the preferred path going forward is to avoid that if possible. "It still obviously is a problem," Steer said Friday. "I'm just trying to do everything I can to let the body heal, and then see what we've got in a couple of weeks."
