• Jaguars' Travis Hunter: Listed as backup at WR, starter at CB

  Hunter is listed as a starting cornerback and second-string wide receiver on Jacksonville's initial preseason depth chart, Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union reports. Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports that Hunter has played 96 snaps on defense and 61 on offense in 11-on-11s during the open portions of practice. The team hasn't been shy about the expectation that Hunter will take on a far larger defensive workload this season, but there's still rampant debate in fantasy circles about his usage on offense. His role on that side of the ball may depend in part on the health of Jacksonville's other wide receivers, namely Parker Washington, Brian Thomas and Jakobi Meyers.

• Jaguars' Travis Hunter: Won't need to know entire playbook

  Jaguars coach Liam Coen said Hunter won't need to know the entire offensive playbook this year, instead focusing on the 'X' and 'F' receiver positions, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. That's not a great sign in terms of the playing-time projection on offense, but this does give Hunter a better chance to actually play well on whatever snaps he gets. Coen acknowledged that it was "a little much last year" for Hunter to try to master the offensive playbook while also learning some of the defense. This year, Hunter is taking most of his snaps on defense during training camp -- in part because the Jaguars appear in good shape at WR with Parker Washington, Brian Thomas and Jakobi Meyers.

  Hunter (knee) said Friday that he has put on 10 pounds of muscle and is running 21-22.5 miles per hour, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports. Hunter seems to be progressing well in his recovery from season-ending LCL surgery, and he has mixed into some team drills at practice, playing mostly with the defense at cornerback while occasionally mixing in with the offense at wide receiver. The second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft said he feels lighter on his feet as a result of the added muscle and that he's hoping to reach 23 miles per hour, which would put him in elite top-speed territory alongside the likes of Tyreek Hill (knee).

  Hunter (knee) is participating in Wednesday's training camp session, John Shipley of SI.com reports. Hunter is taking his first individual reps on defense, Shipley reports. The 2025 first-rounder is likely to be eased in during the early portion of camp, as he's working his way back from season-ending LCL surgery, but there doesn't appear to be any concerns about his status for Week 1 at this stage. Hunter is expected to be utilized at both wide receiver and cornerback in 2026.

As O'Halloran notes, Hunter will be seeing his first team work since Oct. 30, 2025, so the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft figures to be eased back into the mix as he rebounds from an LCL injury. As the coming campaign approaches, the Jaguars plan to utilize Hunter as both a cornerback and wideout, with the 23 year-old's fantasy lineup utility in formats that don't factor in IDP stats hinging on what sort of workload he's able to carve out in a crowded Jaguars pass-catching corps that also includes fellow WRs Brian Thomas, Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington, as well as TE Brenton Strange.

• Jaguars' Travis Hunter: To be limited in voluntary workouts

  GM James Gladstone noted Thursday that Hunter will "be, for all intents and purposes, a limited participant through the offseason program with eyes on (a) return to play at full tick in training camp," NFL.com reports. Coach Liam Coen indicated at the end of March that Hunter was "very well ahead" of schedule in his recovery from surgery (which took place last November) to address a torn LCL in his right knee, per Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union. At the time, Coen added that he couldn't "say for certain" whether Hunter would take part in the Jaguars offseason program, but it appears as though the CB/WR will participate in some capacity as he works toward being at or near full-go for training camp. According to Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com, once the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft resumes practicing, he'll take reps on both sides of the ball. However, while Hunter's positional versatility is valuable to the Jaguars, it remains to be seen what level of playing time the Colorado product (who caught 28 passes in seven regular-season games as a rookie) will see on offense in 2026, while working in a wide receiver corps that also includes Brian Thomas, Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington.

• Jaguars' Travis Hunter: 'Ahead' of schedule in recovery

  Coach Liam Coen said Monday at the NFL's Annual Meeting that Hunter (knee) is "very well ahead" of schedule in his recovery from surgery to address a torn LCL in his right knee, Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union reports. Coen added that he "cannot say for certain" whether or not Hunter will take part in the offseason program in May and June. Hunter sustained the injury during an Oct. 30 practice and spent the rest of his rookie campaign on injured reserve, undergoing the aforementioned procedure on Nov. 11. GM James Gladstone noted after the campaign that Hunter will remain a two-way player in 2026 but likely will focus more on cornerback instead of wide receiver. As a first-year pro, Hunter logged 67 percent of the team's snaps on offense versus just 36 percent on defense through Week 8, hauling in 28 of 45 targets for 298 yards and one touchdown to go with 15 tackles and three pass defenses in seven contests. The Jaguars boast more high-end WR talent (Brian Thomas, Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington) than at CB, so having Hunter focus more on defense in his second season likely will pay dividends on the team's operation as a whole. Having said that, when Hunter will be back on the practice field remains to be seen.

• Jaguars' Travis Hunter: Surgery brings end to rookie season

  Hunter underwent season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair an isolated LCL injury to his right knee, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Hunter was placed on injured reserve Oct. 31, one day after he suffered a non-contact knee injury while playing cornerback during practice. Though the Jaguars relayed that initial tests on Hunter's knee revealed that his ACL was intact, the 22-year-old evidently sustained other ligament damage that required a procedure. Hunter is expected to be ready to resume football activities in six months, so the two-way player should be back to full health well in advance of training camp in late July, if not the start of the Jaguars' offseason program in the spring. The No. 2 overall pick in 2025 will finish his rookie season with a 28-298-1 receiving line on 45 targets to go with 15 tackles and three passes defensed over seven games.

  Coach Liam Coen said Friday that the Jaguars are still trying to determine the extent of the knee injury that is slated to send Hunter to IR, Michael DiRocco of ESPN reports. With his looming placement on IR in mind, the earliest that Hunter -- who suffered a non-contact right knee injury during Thursday's practice -- could return to action would be Week 13, but it's possible that the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft misses time beyond that. With regard to that subject, Coen noted Friday, "We're currently assessing the injury just to determine the best course of action moving forward for Travis and for the team." In Hunter's absence, Brian Thomas, who is managing a shoulder issue, is in line to lead the Jaguars' WR corps, while Parker Washington and Dyami Brown are prime candidates to see added snaps/targets moving forward, with Tim Patrick (groin) also in the mix.

  Coach Liam Coen announced Friday that Hunter (knee) will be placed on injured reserve, Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union reports. Hunter suffered a non-contact knee injury during Thursday's practice, according to Harvey, and he now will be forced to miss at least the next four games. The full extent of Hunter's knee injury isn't yet known publicly, but it's obviously a huge loss for Jacksonville after the team had plans to get the rookie more involved on offense following the Week 8 bye. With Hunter sidelined, Brian Thomas (shoulder), Dyami Brown, Parker Washington and Tim Patrick (groin) will handle wideout duties for the Jaguars. Hunter will first be eligible to return in Week 13 against the Titans.

  Hunter caught eight of 14 targets for 101 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 35-7 loss to the Rams. He also recorded a pass breakup while playing 14 snaps on defense. The rookie two-way player hauled in his first career touchdown on a 34-yard toss from Trevor Lawrence with 9:06 remaining in the fourth quarter. Hunter set new personal bests in catches, yards and targets in the performance, and his volume increase came as Brian Thomas (shoulder) and Dyami Brown (leg) checked in and out of the lineup in the second half. The Jaguars will be on bye in Week 8, but if Thomas' injury proves to be serious, Hunter could be headed for significantly elevated volume in the second half.

Hunter had career highs for snap share (79 percent) and route share (88 percent) in Sunday's loss to Seattle, but his seven targets largely came near the line of scrimmage (4.0 aDOT) and led to a meager 4-15-0 receiving line. He's already getting a few schemed touches each week yet has a much lower per-route target rate (19 percent) than teammates Brian Thomas (24 percent), Parker Washington (25 percent), Travis Etienne (23 percent) and Bhayshul Tuten (29 percent). The Jaguars could look to get Hunter more deep/intermediate targets, but that won't necessarily be easy to do against a tough Rams defense this Sunday in London.

After consecutive encouraging performances during which Hunter generated a combined 6-106-0 receiving line on eight targets, the rookie second overall pick was back to a very modest, low-upside role Sunday. All but one yard of Hunter's tally came on one catch, underscoring how he didn't have any sort of downfield profile. Although he developed a well-earned college reputation for being an explosive player who can offer plenty at deeper depths of target than what he's been seeing, Hunter is surprisingly stuck in a limited role despite head coach Liam Coen's typically creative offensive designs.

Hunter was involved more on offense (38 snaps) than defense (nine snaps) Sunday, resulting in his highest yardage total through four pro appearances. The two-way star finished third for Jacksonville in both targets and receiving production. The Jaguars will continue searching for that sweet spot in terms of Hunter's usage on both sides of the ball when the team visits Kansas City next Monday.

• Jaguars' Travis Hunter: WRs to Sit

  It's tough to trust Hunter or Brian Thomas Jr. right now since both have struggled for the Jaguars to start the season, but I'll still use Thomas as a No. 2 Fantasy receiver in the majority of leagues given his potential. Hunter has plenty of potential as well, but he's been a disappointment through two games thus far against Carolina and Cincinnati despite getting 14 targets. He's only managed nine catches for 55 yards and no touchdowns, and we'll see if he continues to see more time on defense. I'm still hopeful for Thomas to be a productive Fantasy receiver this season, but you can't start him in the majority of leagues against the Texans in Week 3.

  Hunter secured three of six targets for 22 yards while recording two solo tackles and a defensed pass in the Jaguars' 31-27 loss to the Bengals on Sunday. Hunter put together another modest showing on offense to open his NFL career, although he was encouragingly third in targets and also saw an increase in his involvement on defense. One of those looks resulted in a first-quarter interception by the Bengals' Dax Hill, and Hunter was ultimately outproduced by Nos. 3 and No. 4 receivers Dyami Brown and Parker Washington in addition to top wideout Brian Thomas. Nevertheless, Hunter's talent likely isn't going to allow him to be held down for long, and the rookie second-overall pick's next opportunity to enjoy his first breakout game as a professional comes in a Week 3 home matchup against the Texans next Sunday afternoon.

He ran a route on 77 percent of Trevor Lawrence's dropbacks, flirting with full-time status in his NFL debut. Additional playing time on defense doesn't necessarily mean fewer snaps on offense, especially when Hunter is starting at such a low point with the former. He should remain a key part of Jacksonville's offense, regardless of what his weekly role on defense looks like in the coming games.

  Hunter (shoulder) should be fine for this game against the Panthers, and he's worth using as a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in all leagues. We'll see how much Jacksonville plans to use him on offense and defense, but this matchup is tasty enough to trust Hunter, even in Week 1. Last year, the Panthers were tied for second in most receiving touchdowns allowed with 21, and it would be great if Trevor Lawrence got Hunter (and Brian Thomas Jr.) into the end zone at home.
