Commanders' Jacory Croskey-Merritt: Improving in passing game
Croskey-Merritt made it a point over the offseason to improve his ability in the passing game, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
"They just want to be able to do more," Croskey-Merritt said. "The more you can do, the better." The second-year running back has been given more opportunities to catch the ball in practice, and coach Dan Quinn said he's been "digging into him a bunch" to improve that area of his game. Croskey-Merritt has added eight pounds of muscle this offseason and is expected to operate as the team's lead back on early downs ahead of newcomer Rachaad White. If he can provide more in the passing game, it would go a long way to raising Croskey-Merritt's fantasy floor.

Commanders' Terry McLaurin: New running mate in Diggs
McLaurin will be joined by Diggs in the Commanders' receiving corps after the latter agreed to a one-year contract with the team Wednesday, John Keim and Seth Walder of ESPN.com report.
After stringing together five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons from 2020-2024, McLaurin fell back to 582 receiving yards in 10 regular-season games last year, in part due to seven DNPs due to a lingering quadriceps injury while logging most of his appearances with backup Marcus Mariota under center instead of No. 1 signal-caller Jayden Daniels. While it took some time to find a replacement for Deebo Samuel as Washington's new No. 2 WR, Diggs is coming off an age-32 season in which he posted an 85-1,013-4 line on 102 targets in 17 regular-season contests. As a result, opponents will need to game plan for two potential high-volume options instead of just one, giving McLaurin a decent chance to rejoin the 1,000-yard club in 2026.

Commanders' Stefon Diggs: Gets one-year, $12 million deal
Diggs is slated to sign a one-year, $12 million contract with the Commanders, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Diggs helped pace the Patriots' fourth-ranked pass offense in 2025, reeling in 85 of 102 targets for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns in 17 regular-season contests. New England released him at the start of the new league year in March, and after legal issues were settled in May and the NFL closed its review of potential violations of the personal conduct policy in June, wide receiver-needy teams like the Commanders have been tied to him. With Washington finally coming to terms with Diggs, he'll join Terry McLaurin at the top of the WR corps for QB Jayden Daniels.

Commanders' Stefon Diggs: Heading to Washington
The Commanders and Diggs agreed to a contract Wednesday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, the two sides have been circling the wagons, and now Diggs will join his fourth different team in as many seasons. Diggs is coming off an 85-1,013-4 line on 102 targets in 17 regular-season games with the Patriots last season en route to an appearance in Super Bowl LX. In Washington, he'll create a top WR pairing with Terry McLaurin and be on the receiving end of passes from third-year QB Jayden Daniels.

Commanders' Ahkello Witherspoon: Opts for retirement
The Commanders placed Witherspoon on the reserve/retired list Tuesday.
Witherspoon signed a deal with Washington back in March but appears to be hanging up the cleats at 31 years old. He spent the previous three seasons with the Rams, where he started all 17 regular-season games in 2023 before making seven regular-season starts across the 2024-25 campaigns. During his nine-year playing career, Witherspoon appeared in 96 regular-season contests and logged 60 pass breakups, including 13 interceptions.

Commanders' Antonio Williams: Getting some first-team reps
Williams received some reps with the Commanders' first-team offense during Tuesday's practice, Denton Day of 106-7 The Fan Washington reports.
Though Day relays that Williams handled only a "sprinkling" of reps, the rookie third-round pick's usage with the starters is a promising development nonetheless. Given the lack of established personnel at receiver beyond top target Terry McLaurin, Williams should get plenty of chances during training camp and the preseason to stake a claim to the Commanders' top slot role. Luke McCaffrey would appear to represent Williams' top competition for that job.

Commanders' Tre Hawkins: Reverts to Washington IR
Hawkins (undisclosed) reverted to the Commanders' injured reserve Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Hawkins was waived by the Commanders on Sunday and went unclaimed. The cornerback is now set to miss the entire 2026 NFL season on IR unless he is waived with an injury settlement.

Commanders' Kain Medrano: Ready to begin camp
The Commanders activated Medrano (hamstring) off the active/PUP list Monday.
It was unclear when Medrano sustained the hamstring injury, but it appears that it was either a minor issue or a lingering one. The linebacker passed his physical and is all set to participate in full training camp activities. The 25-year-old will need to make a compelling case to remain part of a deep Commanders linebackers corps.

Allegretti is expected to miss the next week of camp due to a calf strain, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Allegretti is viewed as a contender for the starting center role for the upcoming season, so the timing of the issue isn't ideal. However, the injury isn't considered long term, and Allegretti could still log plenty of action during training camp and in preseason games. Keim notes that Brandon Coleman, who is competing for a starting role at left guard, took some center snaps after practice Saturday, which suggests that he could emerge as an option at center, especially if Allegretti's injury lingers longer than expected.

Bates hurt his hamstring during practice Thursday and is going to miss a significant portion of training camp as a result. The third-year tight end is slated to work behind Chig Okonkwo this season, but Bates' injury could open the door for Ben Sinnott to make a push for the No. 2 role at the position.

Sinnott has run a wider variety of routes in training camp compared to previous years, though that is also the case for Washington's other tight ends, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
New offensive coordinator David Blough is emphasizing versatility in his tight-end room, which includes Sinnott, Chig Okonkwo and John Bates, among others. Okonkwo is expected to get most of the pass-catching opportunities at the position. Sinnott hasn't shown much in that department, as the 2024 second-round pick has just 16 catches through 33 career regular-season games.

The Commanders activated Davis (undisclosed) off the active/non-football illness list Wednesday.
Davis is healthy again after spending just four days on the NFI list. The 24-year-old signed with the team as an undrafted free agent back in May and will now spend the remainder of the summer competing for a depth spot on Washington's roster.
