Top Marlins News

  • Marlins' Pete Fairbanks: Hangs on for ninth save

Fairbanks secured the save Sunday against the Pirates, allowing one run on one hit and no walks in the ninth inning. He struck out two.

Although Fairbanks held on for the save Sunday, his grip on Miami's closer role appears to be tenuous at best. The hard-throwing right-hander has given up at least one run in eight of his last 19 appearances, but he has punched out multiple batters eight times during that span. For the year, Fairbanks has a 6.75 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 29:11 K:BB over 20 innings while converting nine of his 11 save chances.

  • Marlins' Max Meyer: Remains undefeated in seventh win

Meyer (7-0) notched the win Sunday against the Pirates, allowing one run on six hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out nine.

Meyer was able to outduel Paul Skenes on Sunday, firing six innings of one-run ball. The 27-year-old right-hander, who continues to push for his first career All-Star selection, tied a season high in strikeouts and has now pitched at least five frames while yielding two runs or fewer 10 times this year. Still undefeated in 2026, Mayer is next set to take an impressive 2.75 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 95:32 K:BB across 85 innings into a soft home matchup versus the Giants.

  • Marlins' Connor Norby: Filling in at third base

Norby will start at third base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Though he'll crack the starting nine for the series finale in Pittsburgh, Norby's playing time has been trending down of late while the Marlins have made a more concerted effort to keep the hot-hitting Heriberto Hernandez's bat in the lineup. Norby will be included in the lineup for just the fifth time in the last 11 games, this time covering the hot corner in place of a resting Javier Sanoja after his previous four starts had come at first base. With Hernandez gaining a foothold in left field, the Marlins could continue to lean primarily on Liam Hicks and Kyle Stowers at first base rather than Norby, who is slashing a measly .193/.317/.307 since the beginning of May.

  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Nabbing third straight start

Hernandez will start in left field and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Since recalling Hernandez from Triple-A Jacksonville on May 7, the Marlins had mostly been using him as a short-side platoon player, but the 26-year-old's hot-hitting ways have allowed him to gain traction in the lineup against right-handed pitching of late. Hernandez will be included in the starting nine for a third straight matchup with a righty and has hit out of the No. 5 spot in each of those contests. He's slashing a robust .313/.338/.563 with five home runs, two steals, 16 RBI and nine runs over 22 games since his call-up.

  • Marlins' Javier Sanoja: Receiving breather Sunday

Sanoja is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Sanoja will get a breather after he started in each of the Marlins' last four games -- three at third base, one at shortstop -- while going 2-for-14 with one double, one walk and three runs. Otto Lopez will be back at shortstop after serving as the Marlins' designated hitter Saturday, while Connor Norby receives the nod at the hot corner.

  • Marlins' Owen Caissie: Getting breather Saturday

Caissie isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Caissie will get a chance to regroup after going just 2-for-24 at the plate since the beginning of the month. While he sits, Heriberto Hernandez, Jakob Marsee and Kyle Stowers will start across Miami's outfield.

  • Marlins' Joe Mack: Riding pine Saturday

Mack isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Mack will step out of the lineup Saturday after going 0-for-6 with a walk and two strikeouts across his last two games. Liam Hicks will move behind the plate as a result, putting Otto Lopez in the DH spot and giving Leo Jimenez a start at third base.

  • Marlins' Liam Hicks: Carries offense in Friday's win

Hicks went 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, a two-run home run and two additional runs scored in Friday's 8-3 win over the Pirates.

The breakout slugger took Antwone Kelly deep in the eighth inning to put a cap on another productive night. Hicks is up to 50 RBI on the season, tied for sixth in the majors, and through 67 contests he's slashing .274/.355/.489 with 13 homers and 38 runs while splitting his time almost equally between catcher, first base and DH.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Sharp in sixth win

Alcantara (6-4) picked up the win Friday, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over eight innings in an 8-3 victory over the Pirates. He struck out seven.

The right-hander reached 1,000 career strikeouts along the way, as Alcantara delivered his third straight quality start and 10th of the season on 102 pitches (70 strikes). Through his first three outings in June, he's produced a 2.86 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 19:2 K:BB over 22 innings, showing glimpses of his 2022 Cy Young form. Alcantara will look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up to come on the road next week in Philadelphia.

  • Marlins' Lake Bachar: Opening again Saturday

Bachar will serve as the Marlins' opening pitcher for Saturday's game against the Pirates, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The Marlins will be relying on their bullpen to get through Saturday's contest, and it will be Bachar taking the mound to begin the game. The 31-year-old fared well during his latest opening assignment last Saturday against the Rays, striking out three batters across three perfect innings. He'll likely be asked to give the Marlins around 3-to-4 innings and 50 pitches in Pittsburgh.

  • Marlins' Zach Pop: Lands with Marlins

Pop signed a minor-league contract with the Marlins on Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Pop elected free agency last weekend after being DFA'd by the Phillies, and he'll now attempt to carve out a role for himself in the Marlins organization. The 29-year-old righty gave up three earned runs in 7.1 innings during his time with Philadelphia, but he's given up eight runs in eight frames at Triple-A. If he turns things around at Jacksonville, he could be welcomed into Miami's bullpen at some point.

  • Marlins' Otto Lopez: Swipes two bags Thursday

Lopez went 2-for-4 with a run and two stolen bases against Arizona in a 2-0 win Thursday.

Lopez was the only batter on either team to record multiple hits in the low-scoring affair. He manufactured a run in the first inning by knocking a single, reaching second base on a disengagement violation, stealing third and then coming home on a sacrifice fly. The speedy infielder added another theft later in the game for his third multi-steal performance of the campaign. Lopez is in the midst of the best season of his career, as he leads qualified MLB hitters with a .344 batting average while adding five homers, 18 doubles (tied for fifth most), three triples, 30 RBI, 42 runs and 13 steals through 68 games.
