Diamondbacks' Brandon Pfaadt: Moving to bullpen role
Pfaadt will transition to the bullpen following the return of Merrill Kelly (back) from the injured list, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
Pfaadt has struggled mightily to find his footing over his first three starts of the 2026 campaign, as he's given up 11 runs over 16.2 innings of work. He'll search for success as a reliever while Michael Soroka will remain in Arizona's starting rotation going forward.

Diamondbacks' Taylor Rashi: Demoted to Triple-A
Rashi was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.
Rashi will vacate the big-league roster with Merrill Kelly (back) set to make his return from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. Rashi was hit hard during Monday's 9-7 loss to the Orioles, surrendering four runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning.

Diamondbacks' James McCann: Out of Monday's lineup
McCann is not in the lineup for Monday's contest in Baltimore.
McCann is slated to handle the bulk of the catching duties while Gabriel Moreno (back) is shelved, but he will begin Monday's festivities on the bench. Adrian Del Castillo will do the catching and bat cleanup for Arizona.

Diamondbacks' Ryan Waldschmidt: Heating up for Aces
Waldschmidt is slashing .316/.426/.579 with two home runs, one steal, a 14.5 percent walk rate and a 26.1 percent strikeout rate in 15 games for Triple-A Reno.
Waldschmidt's .432 BABIP is propping up his stats a little, but he's also heating up while trimming the Ks, as he boasts a 1.136 OPS and 22 percent strikeout rate over his last nine games. The Diamondbacks will gain an extra year of club control over Waldschmidt by holding him down for another week, but he could have his contract selected in late April before taking over an everyday role in Arizona's outfield.

Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Delivers in pinch
Del Castillo went 1-for-1 with an RBI in Sunday's 4-3 win over Philadelphia.
Del Castillo entered as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and delivered the game-winning run. He normally serves as a designated hitter, but Corbin Carroll has operated as the DH the last two games since returning from a tight hip flexor injury. Del Castillo will share catching duties with James McCann while Gabriel Moreno (back) is unavailable. With just two healthy catchers, Arizona manager Torey Lovullo may not use both Del Castillo and McCann in starting lineups.

Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Helps in comeback win
Perdomo went 0-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Phillies.
Perdomo, who got on base via a force-out, stole second base and scored the first of two runs in the eighth inning that clinched the comeback victory. The shortstop, who is batting .157 through 16 games, is doing what he can despite the slow start. Over the last five games, during which he's gone 2-for-14, Perdomo has walked six times, stole three bases and scored four runs.

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Remains at DH
Carroll went 2-for-4 with a walk and a double in Sunday's 4-3 win over Philadelphia.
Carroll served as the designated hitter for the second straight game since a return from a two-game absence due to a hip flexor injury. It's not clear when Carroll will return to right field, where Jorge Barrosa has filled in for him the last four games.

Diamondbacks' James McCann: Contributes to win
McCann went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Phillies.
McCann knocked in the Diamondbacks' first run with his second-inning double. It was the second straight contest with a run-scoring double for the catcher, who is batting .200 with three doubles and three RBI through eight games played. With Arizona likely to place Gabriel Moreno (back) on the injured list, McCann is in line for regular at-bats.

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Falters late in no-decision
Gallen did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Phillies, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts over five innings.
Gallen opened with five scoreless frames before allowing five straight hits and three runs without recording an out in the sixth. It was a tough finish to an otherwise solid outing, though he generated just four swinging strikes on 84 pitches and yielded 15 hard-hit balls. The 30-year-old owns a 3.60 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB across 20 innings in the early going and lines up for a home matchup against the Blue Jays next weekend.

Diamondbacks' Paul Sewald: Earns fifth save
Sewald earned the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Phillies, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.
Sewald was summoned to protect a one-run lead in the ninth and retired the bottom of the Phillies' lineup in order on just 11 pitches. He's kept opponents scoreless in six of eight appearances this season while converting all five of his save opportunities. Overall, the 35-year-old owns a 2.84 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 9:0 K:BB through his first 6.1 innings.

Diamondbacks' Merrill Kelly: Season debut set for Tuesday
Kelly (back) will be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to make his season debut Tuesday in Baltimore, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
The right-hander threw five scoreless frames in a minor-league rehab start April 3 and continued to build up at extended spring training this past week with a six-inning, 83-pitch appearance. Kelly has missed the first few weeks of the season due to a back injury, but he should be able to handle a near-full workload for the Diamondbacks in his 2026 debut.

Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: Sitting against righty
Del Castillo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.
The left-handed hitter had been in the lineup at designated hitter or catcher in Arizona's last four games, but he'll hit the bench Sunday against righty Andrew Painter. At least until the Diamondbacks get one or two of Gabriel Moreno (back), Carlos Santana (adductor), Pavin Smith (elbow) and Lourdes Gurriel (knee) back from the injured list, Del Castillo should have a fairly clear path to a strong-side platoon role.

Diamondbacks' Tim Tawa: Nabbing fifth straight start
Tawa will start in left field and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Phillies.
The 27-year-old utility player will occupy left field for the fifth game in a row, but Arizona may not have room in its outfield for both Tawa and Jorge Barrosa once Corbin Carroll -- who is making a second straight start at designated hitter due to a minor hip issue -- is cleared to play defense. With a .393 OPS over 31 plate appearances on the season, Tawa hasn't done much to justify an everyday assignment in place of Jordan Lawlar (wrist), who will be on the shelf until at least early June.

Diamondbacks' James McCann: Filling in for injured Moreno
McCann will start at catcher and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Phillies.
With Gabriel Moreno (back) expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, McCann is poised to see extra work while splitting time behind the plate with Adrian Del Castillo. After producing a .755 OPS in 42 games for the Diamondbacks in 2025, McCann has struggled out of the gate this season, going 2-for-16 with a 1:6 BB:K in seven contests.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Receiving first day off
Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.
Marte started Arizona's first 15 games of the season but will take a seat Sunday after going 2-for-8 with a walk, a homer, three RBI and two runs through the first two contests in Philadelphia. Ildemaro Vargas will finish out the series at second base for the Diamondbacks while batting leadoff.

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Returns to action
Carroll started at designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Philadelphia.
Carroll returned to the lineup after missing two games with a tight hip flexor. His first-inning walk preceded an RBI single by Adrian Del Castillo. Carroll was available off the bench the last two days, which indicates the issue wasn't considered serious.

Diamondbacks' Adrian Del Castillo: First start at catcher
Del Castillo went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Phillies.
Del Castillo, who was making his first start of the season behind the plate, had a run-scoring single in the first inning, giving him hits in three straight contests. He's in line for more catching work after the Diamondbacks announced that Gabriel Moreno (back) was headed for the injured list. Del Castillo's bat is ahead of his defensive skills, so it's unclear if the plan is to use him as the primary backup to James McCann or reach down to Triple-A Reno for a third catcher. Not calling up another backstop might make it too risky to use Del Castillo as a designated hitter, which is where he made his first three starts before Saturday.
