Manager Torey Lovullo announced Sunday that Soroka will start Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
The right-hander piggybacked Zac Gallen Wednesday against the Royals as both pitchers returned from the injured list, but it'll be Soroka who works out of the rotation moving forward. The 29-year-old has been a reliable starter for Arizona when available this year with a 3.53 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 95:25 K:BB over 99.1 innings.

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Moving to bullpen

Manager Torey Lovullo announced Sunday that Gallen will work out of the bullpen moving forward, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
The right-hander returned to the rotation Wednesday after missing two months due to an elbow injury, but he'll be shifted to a relief role after giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. Michael Soroka piggybacked Gallen in that game and will re-enter the rotation Tuesday against the Marlins. It's been a career-worst campaign for Gallen, who has a 6.22 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 62:33 K:BB across 101.1 innings.

The veteran slugger has started just three games since being reinstated from the injured list at the start of September, and Arizona has now elected to remove him from the 28-man and 40-man rosters. Gurriel has a .544 OPS with two homers in 201 plate appearances this season, which is the final guaranteed year of his contract. He has a $14 million club option with a $5 million buyout for 2027, which will likely guarantee that he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Pfaadt again provided good length, but he wasn't able to collect a third straight quality start. He has given up 20 runs over 31.1 innings across his last five starts, going winless in that stretch. For the season, the right-hander is at a 3.77 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 84:29 K:BB through 124 innings over 27 games (17 starts). Pfaadt is projected to make his next start at home versus the Yankees.
The Diamondbacks recalled Locklear from Triple-A Reno and placed him on the 60-day injured list Saturday due to a fractured right thumb.
Locklear was dispatched to Triple-A last month but was summoned back to the big leagues Saturday so the team could place him on the 60-day IL to open a spot on the 40-man roster for Pavin Smith. The move effectively ends Locklear's season after slashing .278/.357/.444 with one home run, six RBI, eight runs scored, one stolen base and a 4:9 BB:K across 42 plate appearances in the majors. He posted an .871 OPS with 10 homers and 46 RBI at Reno.

Smith opened the season as the Diamondbacks' main designated hitter against right-handed pitching, but he slashed just .141/.236/.192 with two extra-base hits and six RBI across 89 plate appearances before being DFA'd in early July. With Reno, Smith hit .301 with a .925 OPS across 181 trips to the plate to earn another chance at the big-league level.
