  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Ready for rehab assignment

Gurriel (adductor) has been sent to Triple-A Reno to begin a rehab assignment.

Gurriel landed on the 10-day injured list shortly after the All-Star break, but he's ready to test things out in games after going through workouts at the Diamondbacks' spring training facility in Arizona. He should be ready to rejoin the active roster later this month. What's unclear is what Gurriel's role will be upon return, as the Diamondbacks traded for Lars Nootbaar and got Jordan Lawlar back from injury after Gurriel was hurt.

  • Diamondbacks' Nolan Arenado: Out of lineup again Tuesday

Arenado (intercostal) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game in Boston.

Arenado is dealing with a minor left intercostal injury and will miss a second straight start. The Diamondbacks are optimistic he will be able to avoid the injured list, but with a team off day looming Thursday, it's possible Arenado will be held out until the club returns home Friday. Jose Fernandez will occupy third base for Arizona on Tuesday.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Managing knee issue

Marte (personal) is returning to Arizona on Tuesday to undergo an MRI on his left knee, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

The 32-year-old was placed on the restricted list Monday and didn't report to Fenway Park for the series opener against the Red Sox due to a personal matter, but he's apparently also dealing with a knee injury. Marte was considered day-to-day while tending to the personal issue, but a longer absence could be in store depending on what the MRI reveals. Marte previously missed out on a start Saturday against Atlanta due to left knee soreness before returning to the lineup a day later.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Lawlar: Hitless in return

Lawlar started in center field and went 0-for-4 in Monday's 11-1 loss to Boston.

Lawlar, who missed the last two months due to a hamstring injury, was activated ahead of Monday's game. He's expected to resume a role as the primary starter in center field.

  • Diamondbacks' Jose Fernandez: Starts at hot corner

Fernandez started at third base and went 1-for-3 in Monday's 11-1 loss to the Red Sox.

Fernandez was a late call-up after Arizona placed Ketel Marte (personal) on the restricted list. Without both Marte and Nolan Arenado (torso), the Diamondbacks got by with Ildemaro Vargas at second base and Fernandez at third. The length of Marte's absence is unknown, but Arenado will try to play through his injury and could miss Tuesday's game, per MLB.com.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Bounces back to 2B

Vargas started at second base, batted leadoff and went 0-for-4 with a run scored in Monday's 11-1 loss to Boston.

Vargas got the call at second base after the Diamondbacks placed Ketel Marte (personal) on the restricted list. It's unclear how much time Marte will need, but Vargas should step in while the situation plays out. Geraldo Perdomo, who recently took over at leadoff, took Marte's cleanup spot while Vargas ascended to the top of the order.

  • Diamondbacks' Mitch Bratt: Takes loss at Fenway Park

Bratt (1-2) was tagged with the loss against the Red Sox on Monday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over three innings. He did not record a strikeout.

Bratt was far from the worst pitcher for the Diamondbacks on Monday, with Zack Littell yielding eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits across 3.2 innings. Still, Bratt ran up his pitch count to 65 (37 strikes) through three frames while generating only one whiff. It was the second time this season that the 23-year-old southpaw failed to record a strikeout, and he now sports a 4.17 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 36.2 innings. Bratt is lined up to start against the Reds at home this weekend.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Tending to personal matter

Marte, who was placed on the restricted list Monday, didn't report to Fenway Park ahead of the Diamondbacks' game against the Red Sox due to a personal matter and is being considered day-to-day, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

Marte's situation remains murky, and the Diamondbacks have yet to comment when the three-time All-Star might return to the team or whether he'll face any kind of discipline after he had been expected to play Monday. Ildemaro Vargas started at second base in the series opener in Boston and would be in store for more playing time if Marte misses additional games.

  • Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Goes on restricted list

The Diamondbacks placed Marte on the restricted list Monday.

The team has yet to provide an explanation behind the transaction, nor is it clear how long Marte might be away from the Diamondbacks. Ildemaro Vargas will draw the start at second base in Monday's series opener in Boston in Marte's stead.

  • Diamondbacks' Jose Fernandez: Promoted to big leagues

Fernandez was recalled from Triple-A Reno ahead of Monday's game against the Red Sox.

Fernandez will take the roster spot of Ketel Marte, who was placed on the restricted list prior to first pitch. Fernandez is penciled into the starting nine at the hot corner and will bat seventh against Boston on Monday, though he's also seen playing time at first base (17 games), shortstop (five games) and as the designated hitter (19 games) so far this season with Arizona.

  • Diamondbacks' Nolan Arenado: Not in Monday's lineup

Arenado (chest) is not in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup against the Red Sox on Monday.

Manager Torey Lovullo said that an MRI showed a "small signal" in Arenado's left intercostal, per Jody Jackson of DBacks.tv. However, Arenado will be available off the bench Monday, and the expecation is that he will avoid the injured list. Jose Fernandez -- who was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Monday after Ketel Marte (not injury related) was placed on the restricted list -- will start at third base and bat seventh.

  • Diamondbacks' Andrew Hoffmann: Loses 40-man roster spot

The Diamondbacks designated Hoffmann (undisclosed) for assignment Monday.

He'll give up his spot on the 40-man roster to right-hander Justin Martinez (elbow), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. After winning a spot in Arizona's Opening Day bullpen coming out of spring training, Hoffmann was demoted to Triple-A Reno after submitting a 7.71 ERA and 2.06 WHIP in 11.2 innings out of the bullpen. He hasn't made an appearance for Reno since June 5 due to an unspecified injury and moved to the Triple-A club's 60-day IL over the All-Star break.

  • Diamondbacks' Tyler Locklear: Bound for Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Locklear to Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Locklear ended up being a casualty of the 26-man active roster after the Diamondbacks needed to clear a spot for outfielder Jordan Lawlar's (hamstring) return from the 10-day injured list. After being recalled from Reno on July 17, Locklear served mainly as a short-side platoon player during his time with Arizona, batting .278/.357/.444 with one home run, one stolen base, six RBI and eight runs in 15 games. He'll get the chance to play on a more regular basis at Triple-A.

  • Diamondbacks' Gerardo Carrillo: Returning to minor leagues

The Diamondbacks optioned Carrillo to Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Carrillo will give up his spot on the 26-man active roster and in the Arizona bullpen to right-hander Justin Martinez (elbow), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list. After being recalled from Triple-A on July 21, Carrillo made eight relief appearances for the Diamondbacks, picking up two wins while delivering an 0.66 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB across 13.2 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Justin Martinez: Ready for 2026 debut with Arizona

The Diamondbacks reinstated Martinez (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Monday.

Martinez has been cleared to make his 2026 debut with the Diamondbacks following a lengthy recovery from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent June 25, 2025. The hard-throwing reliever looked sharp over his four rehab appearances between Single-A Visalia and Triple-A Reno, firing four scoreless, no-hit innings while striking out six and issuing just one walk. The Diamondbacks' closer situation has been unsettled over the past three weeks after Paul Sewald lost the job and eventually, his roster spot, so Martinez could make for a viable speculative pickup for fantasy managers mining for saves. Before requiring surgery last summer, Martinez had previously been a key high-leverage arm for Arizona in 2024 and the early part of the 2025 season.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Lawlar: Officially reinstated from IL

The Diamondbacks reinstated Lawlar (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list Monday.

After batting .250 with five home runs and two steals over a nine-game rehab assignment at Double-A Amarillo, Lawlar received clearance from the Arizona training staff to rejoin the big-league roster. Given that Lawlar is returning from a left hamstring strain that kept him on the shelf for nearly two months, the Diamondbacks could look to ease him back into the mix with more frequent days off and/or some starts at designated hitter, but he should eventually settle into a regular role in center field. Lawlar hit .316 with one home run, four steals, six runs and four RBI over a small sample of 44 plate appearances on the season with the Diamondbacks before landing on the IL on June 20.

  • Diamondbacks' Jordan Lawlar: Likely to be activated Monday

Lawlar (hamstring) joined the Diamondbacks in Boston and is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Monday's game against the Red Sox, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Though Lawlar had been expected to continue his rehab assignment at Double-A Amarillo for the early part of the week, the Diamondbacks have apparently seen enough from the 24-year-old during his time on the farm to feel comfortable with his health. Lawlar -- who has been on the shelf since June 20 due to a right hamstring strain -- hit .250 with five home runs, two stolen bases and a 1:13 BB:K in nine games with Amarillo. He'll likely see most of his action in center field upon rejoining the Diamondbacks, with Lawlar's addition perhaps leaving Ryan Waldschmidt, Max Kepler and Lars Nootbaar to jockey for playing time between left field and the designated-hitter spot.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Fills at hot corner

Vargas entered Sunday's game for the injured Nolan Arenado (torso) and went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in a 5-3 loss to Atlanta.

Vargas tied the game at 2-2 with his solo shot in the seventh inning. It was the second consecutive game with homer for Vargas, who had filled in for Ketel Marte on Saturday. Arenado is expected to undergo imaging while the Diamondbacks are in Boston before the team decides on next steps, per Rick Farlow of MLB.com. Pending the results, Vargas could see increased opportunities at third base going forward.
