  • Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Racks up four hits, three runs

Griffin went 4-for-5 with three runs scored in Wednesday's 7-0 win over the Cardinals.

All four hits were singles, and the Pirates' strong showing from the bottom of the order saw Griffin score multiple runs in a game for just the third time. This was his second four-hit effort of the month, and he's batting .343 (23-for-67) with seven extra-base hits and three stolen bases over 17 contests in May. Overall, the rookie shortstop is hitting .278 with a .738 OPS, three home runs, 20 RBI, 23 runs scored, seven doubles, two triples and 10 stolen bases over 43 games while playing on a near-everyday basis.

  • Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Elevated to two hole versus lefty

Griffin will start at shortstop and bat second in Wednesday's contest against the Rockies.

It's the first time in his young major-league career that Griffin has batted higher than sixth. Brandon Lowe has been the Pirates' regular No. 2 hitter versus righties and that will likely continue to be the case, but the right-handed-hitting Griffin is getting a chance in the two-hole Wednesday against southpaw Jose Quintana. After getting off to a slow start, Griffin is slashing .317/.380/.540 with three home runs and five stolen bases across his last 17 contests.

  • Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Pops third homer

Griffin went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Giants.

Griffin has two homers over his last 12 games, and he's batting .333 (15-for-45) with three steals and seven RBI in that span. The shortstop has found some consistency at the plate lately, as he's been held hitless just once during that 12-game sample. He's batting .256 with a .721 OPS, three homers, 19 RBI, 15 runs scored, nine steals, five doubles and two triples through 35 contests this season.

  • Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Notches eighth steal

Griffin went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Diamondbacks.

Griffin's knock extended his hitting streak to eight games, a span in which he's gone 12-for-29 (.414) with five extra-base hits and two steals. The shortstop hasn't shown a ton of power yet, but everything else has looked pretty good so far. He's batting .266 with a .735 OPS, two home runs, 16 RBI, 13 runs scored, eight steals, five doubles and two triples across 31 contests. Griffin is striking out at a 28.1 percent clip, which could make him prone to some slumps during his rookie year, but it's not all that concerning given his overall body of work.

  • Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Paces rout with four hits

Griffin went 4-for-5 with a walk, a double, a triple, a run scored and two runs in Saturday's 17-7 win over the Reds.

The rookie shortstop led his team in knocks and tied with Brandon Lowe for the most times on base on an afternoon in which the Pirates piled up 19 hits and 11 free passes. Griffin has hit safely in five straight games, and since turning 20 years old April 24 he's batting .412 (14-for-34) with four extra-base hits, including two homers, as well as three steals, five runs and eight RBI in nine contests.

  • Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Belts second major-league homer

Griffin went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during the Pirates' 11-7 loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday.

The Pirates were down 11-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but Griffin made the score a little bit more respectable with a solo homer to right-center field. He is up to two homers on the season, both of which have come over his last five games. The 20-year-old rookie is slashing .226/.283/.345 with six steals, 13 RBI and nine runs scored over 92 plate appearances this season.

  • Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Clubs first homer on 20th birthday

Griffin went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, two additional RBI and a steal in Friday's win over Milwaukee.

Griffin, who turned 20 years old Friday, bookended the scoring with his first big-league homer during the third inning and a two-run single in the eighth. The long ball ended an 0-for-11 skid, while the three-hit game is also the first of his MLB career. Griffin has yet to find his footing through his first 20 big-league games with a .214/.273/.314 slash line and 28.6 percent strikeout rate, but he's shown flashes of his upside and should continue to get an extended look after inking a nine-year, $140 million extension earlier this month.

  • Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Heating up

Griffin went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base Friday against the Rays.

Griffin singled in the second inning for a potential RBI, but Spencer Horwitz was thrown out at home. Griffin continued to make an impact on the game in the sixth and eighth innings, stealing a base in the former while walking and scoring a run in the latter. After a slow start to his rookie season, Griffin now has at least one hit in each of his last four starts, going 6-for-16 with two extra-base hits, two RBI and four runs scored.

  • Pirates' Konnor Griffin: Getting breather Wednesday

Griffin is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Nationals.

Nick Gonzales will get a start at shortstop while Griffin receives a day off. The 19-year-old is hitting only .189/.279/.243 in his first 43 plate appearances for the Pirates, though he has reached base four times over his last two games.

  • Pirates' Konnor Griffin: First stolen base

Griffin went 1-for-5 with a stolen base Saturday against the Cubs.

Griffin hasn't logged an extra-base hit since the first plate appearance of his career and has gone hitless in four of his first seven starts. While his slow start isn't necessarily a surprise given his age, Griffin did manage to loft a single into left field for a single Saturday and then steal second base -- the first of his big-league career. He has hit primarily in the bottom-third of Pittsburgh's order, but Griffin should continue to play nearly every day.
