  • Giants' Ryan Walker: Scoreless outing Friday

Walker struck out one in a scoreless inning during Friday's 5-1 loss to the Cubs. Walker was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday and immediately made an appearance for San Francisco. The right-hander posted a 6.46 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in 15.1 innings before being optioned to Sacramento on May 10, though he was solid in his return to the big leagues. Walker threw 12 of his 16 pitches for strikes and will attempt to build on the performance in hopes of earning more high-leverage opportunities moving forward.

  • Giants' Ryan Walker: Back in majors

The Giants recalled Walker from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Walker began the season as the Giants' de facto closer but was demoted to Sacramento just over a month ago after posting a 6.46 ERA and 14:10 K:BB over 15.1 innings. He seemed to get back on track at Sacramento, permitting two runs with a 7:3 K:BB across 9.1 frames. No one has taken hold of the Giants' closer job since Walker was optioned, so he could push his way back into the late-inning mix. Initially, however, the club is likely to ease him in with some low-leverage outings.

  • Giants' Ryan Walker: Bound for Triple-A

The Giants optioned Walker to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Giants manager Tony Vitello has yet to settle on a full-time closer, but Walker took himself out of consideration for save chances after a string of poor performances. Over his last four appearances, the right-hander blew two saves and gave up seven earned runs on nine hits and four walks over 3.1 innings, inflating his ERA to 6.46 and his WHIP to 1.89 on the season. Walker will be sent to Triple-A for a reset, and if he's able to rediscover the form he showed in his 2024 breakout, he may not have to wait long for a call-up.

  • Giants' Ryan Walker: Blows third save Sunday

Walker blew a save opportunity in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Rays, allowing a run on one hit and one walk across one inning. With the Giants nursing a 1-0 lead, Walker came on to face the heart of Tampa Bay's lineup in the eighth inning. He walked Junior Caminero on seven pitches and allowed a single to Jonathan Aranda to open the frame. Ryan Vilade pushed across the tying run on a bunt play. Walker has now been scored upon in three straight outings, suffering blown saves in back-to-back appearances. His ERA has swelled to 4.61 with a 13:7 K:BB across 13.2 innings.

  • Giants' Ryan Walker: Blows save Thursday

Walker (0-1) took the loss and blew a save opportunity in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Phillies, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out one batter over two-thirds of an inning. Logan Webb gave San Francisco seven innings of one-run ball, and Erik Miller tossed a scoreless eighth to hand Walker a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. However, the Giants' closer couldn't protect the advantage, yielding a pair of infield singles and a triple to allow two runs to score. The blown save was the second of the season across five save chances for Walker, who has registered a 4.26 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB through 12.2 frames spanning 13 outings. He's probably still safe as San Francisco's primary saves option for the time being, though Walker doesn't have the longest leash among MLB closers.

  • Giants' Ryan Walker: Grinds out first save

Walker earned a save against the Padres on Monday, allowing two runs on one hit and one walk while striking out one batter over one inning. Walker appeared to be in line for a relatively easy save when he entered with a 3-0 lead in the ninth inning, but the veteran reliever struggled to close things out. He issued an inning-opening walk and later served up a two-run blast to Jackson Merrill with two outs. Walker was ultimately able to end the game by getting Xander Bogaerts to ground out to shortstop. This was Walker's third appearance but first save chance of the season. Despite the uneven outing, he has a pretty strong hold on San Francisco's closer role for the time being.

  • Giants' Ryan Walker: Allows hit in brief outing

Walker allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one across one-third of an inning in Friday's 3-0 loss to the Yankees. Walker entered in the eighth inning and struck out Aaron Judge, walked Cody Bellinger and gave up a single to Giancarlo Stanton before being pulled for left-hander Ryan Borucki. According to Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle, Walker is a candidate to pitch high-leverage innings this season along with Matt Gage, Erik Miller and Jose Butto, all of whom made appearances Friday. Over 68 regular-season outings in 2025, Walker posted a 4.11 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 60:18 K:BB across 61.1 innings. He began last season as the Giants' closer before losing the role to Camilo Doval. However, Walker later regained closing duties after Doval was traded and Randy Rodriguez suffered an elbow injury in late August that ultimately led to Tommy John surgery in September.

Walker earned the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Brewers, allowing one hit while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning. With Randy Rodriguez (arm) unavailable Sunday, the Giants turned to Walker in the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The right-hander was able to work around Sal Frelick's two-out single to lock down his 11th save this season and first since May 25. Walker has been sharp of late, turning in six straight scoreless appearances and posting a 0.77 ERA over his last 11.2 innings. • Giants' Ryan Walker: Secures ninth save

Walker pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Royals. Walker has recorded the Giants' last two saves, so he's currently doing a decent job of fending off Camilo Doval's challenge for the closer role. Walker has also pitched four consecutive scoreless and hitless innings, though he has a 1:2 K:BB in that span. The right-hander is at a 5.00 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 16:7 K:BB with nine saves in 11 chances over 18 innings this season.

  • Giants' Ryan Walker: Earns save Sunday

Walker struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Athletics. This was Walker's third consecutive scoreless inning since his blown save versus the Twins on May 11. The right-hander got through his outing Sunday on a tidy seven pitches (six strikes) to earn his eighth save in 10 chances this season. Walker also has a hold, but he's been less dominant in 2025 than he was in 2024, posting a 5.29 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 16:7 K:BB over his first 17 innings this year. Walker's unsteady pitching has almost all been since April 20, which has opened the door for Camilo Doval to rejoin the closer conversation for the Giants, which has the ninth inning looking like a two-man committee for now.

Walker forced the first two batters to ground out and came away with the save after retiring Adael Amador on a seven-pitch strikeout. It was Walker's first save since April 19 as he and Camilo Doval have formed a closer committee after Walker initially opened the campaign as the clear No. 1 option.
