  • Cubs' BJ Murray: Added to roster, starting at DH

The Cubs selected Murray's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

Murray has put together a fine season at Iowa, slashing .294/.395/.500 with 16 home runs, nine stolen bases and a 69:110 BB:K over 118 games. He's primarily a corner infielder but can handle left field as well. Murray is starting at designated hitter and batting eighth Tuesday versus the Brewers in his major-league debut.

  • Cubs' BJ Murray: Healthy again, playing at Double-A

Triple-A Iowa reinstated Murray (undisclosed) from its 7-day injured list Aug. 27 and assigned him to Double-A Tennessee.

  • Cubs' BJ Murray: Hits IL at Triple-A

Triple-A Iowa placed Murray on its 7-day injured list July 24 with an unspecified injury.

The corner infielder likely sustained the injury at some point during Iowa's July 23 game against Indianapolis before being deactivated a day later. Murray has struggled in his first season at the Triple-A level, slashing .204/.320/.348 with 11 home runs, 10 stolen bases and a 24.4 percent strikeout rate over 353 plate appearances.

  • Cubs' BJ Murray: Breaking out at Double-A

Murray is slashing .274/.396/.514 with seven home runs and a 148 wRC+ in 50 games for Double-A Tennessee.

Murray, who was a 15th-round pick in the 2021 draft, has an identical 16.1 percent walk rate at Single-A, High-A and Double-A, and it's nice to see that his production has remained strong now that he is finally at an age-appropriate level. Murray's groundball rate is down to a career-best 28.8 percent, which has translated to a career-best .240 ISO. He has gotten most of his starts at third base while also seeing time at first base and second base.
