  • Yankees' David Bednar: Picks up 11th save Monday

Bednar picked up the save in Monday's 7-6 win over the Blue Jays, allowing one run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts across one inning. Bednar was brought on to protect a two-run lead but issued a leadoff walk and RBI double to his first two batters. He eventually settled in to retire three of the final four Blue Jays, earning his 11th save. Bednar has now been scored upon in three straight outings and five of seven appearances this month. The right-hander's ERA has ballooned from 3.55 to 5.14 along the way. Bednar owns a 25:9 K:BB across 21 innings.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Serves up three-run homer

Bednar blew the save Sunday against the Mets, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk in the ninth inning. He struck out one. Called upon to protect a 6-3 lead in the ninth inning, Bednar was taken deep by Tyrone Taylor for a three-run home run for his second blown save of the campaign. The right-hander has been shaky for most of the season as the Yankees' closer, logging a 4.95 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB with 10 saves over 20 frames. Bednar figures to remain the club's top choice for ninth-inning work going forward, but it's worth noting Camilo Doval is a possible alternative with plenty of closing experience from his time with the Giants.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Grabs 10th save

Bednar earned the save Tuesday against the Rangers, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two over 1.2 innings. Bednar entered in a high-leverage spot in the eighth inning with one out, the bases loaded and a four-run lead, but he quickly escaped by retiring the next two hitters. The ninth inning was less clean, as he allowed a triple to Ezequiel Duran followed by an RBI groundout, though he still had enough cushion to finish off his 10th save of the season. Bednar has now allowed a run in two of his last three appearances, pushing his season line to a 3.52 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and an 18:5 K:BB across 15.1 innings.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Ekes out eighth save

Bednar earned a save against the Rangers on Monday, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out one batter over one inning. Bednar entered in the ninth inning with New York holding a three-run lead. He gave up a leadoff single to begin the frame and then retired the next two batters. Bednar appeared to have the game wrapped up when Josh Smith hit a grounder to second base with two outs, but Jazz Chisholm booted the ball, and Texas scored when the next batter hit a single. However, Bednar was able to get the third out to wrap up the New York win. He's converted eight saves (on nine chances) this season and ranks second in MLB in that category.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Pitches clean inning for save

Bednar earned a save against the Red Sox on Thursday, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth inning. Bednar was called upon to protect a 4-2 lead after Cam Schlittler tossed eight innings for New York. Bednar breezed through his frame, setting down the side in order on 11 pitches (eight strikes). The veteran closer was shaky at times early in the campaign and had a 5.40 ERA through his first seven outings, but he's since logged four consecutive scoreless appearances, during which he's given up just one hit and registered a 5:1 K:BB over four frames. Bednar is tied for second in MLB with seven saves on the campaign.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Holds on for third save

Bednar earned the save Wednesday against the Mariners, allowing one run on three hits and no walks in 1.1 innings. He struck out one. The right-hander surrendered his first run of the season, but he survived Seattle's comeback attempt for his third save of the campaign. Bednar fired 40 pitches Wednesday and recorded more than three outs for the first time this year, but he might have a chance to be available for Friday's series opener versus Miami following Thursday's day off. He's 3-for-3 on save opportunities thus far in 2026.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Registers second save

Bednar earned the save Saturday against the Giants, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk in one inning. He struck out one. It was Bednar's second save in as many outings to begin the new campaign. The right-hander wasn't at his sharpest Saturday, throwing just 12 of his 20 pitches for strikes, but he was able to induce a Patrick Bailey double play to seal the deal. Bednar tossed five scoreless appearances during Grapefruit League play, and he appears to be picking up right where he left off this spring.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Comes up big for USA in WBC

Bednar tossed a scoreless inning for Team USA against Team Canada in the quarterfinal of the World Baseball Classic on Friday, allowing two hits and striking out two batters. Bednar entered in the seventh inning with the US up 5-3. He found himself in a world of trouble by allowing runners on second and third with no outs on a pair of infield singles and a passed ball, but the veteran hurler managed to escape the jam without being scored upon by getting a popout and a pair of punchouts. Bednar, who is locked into the closer role for the Yankees, has yet to give up a run in the WBC.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Gets $9 million with Bronx Bombers

Bednar agreed to a one-year, $9 million contract with the Yankees on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Bednar had a rocky start to the 2025 season with Pittsburgh, which resulted in a brief demotion to Triple-A. His trip to the minors did the trick, as he reclaimed his closer role in the Pirates' bullpen and pitched well before being traded to the Yankees in late July. Bednar served as the preferred closer for the Bronx Bombers toward the tail end of the regular season, and in 22 outings with the Yankees, he logged a 2.19 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 10 saves (on 13 opportunities) and a 35:9 K:BB across 24.2 innings. Bednar figures to reprise his role as the Yankees' top closer for the 2026 season.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Tallies first postseason save

Bednar pitched a perfect ninth inning while striking out two batters to pick up the save during Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Red Sox. After giving up two hits and a run over two-thirds of an inning in Game 1, Bednar was summoned to handle the ninth for the second time in as many days. He was much more effective this time around, striking out Wilyer Abreu and Jarren Duran before getting Ceddanne Rafaela to fly out to right field to end the game. Bednar posted a 2.19 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in the regular season after joining the Yankees at the trade deadline and figures to be manager Aaron Boone's go-to option in save situations for the remainder of New York's postseason run.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Notches 24th save

Bednar worked a perfect ninth inning Saturday without striking out a batter to record his 24th save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Red Sox. The right-hander collected his seventh save in 10 attempts since joining the Yankees, needing only seven pitches (five strikes) to get the job done. Bednar has been scored upon only twice in his last 15 appearances in pinstripes, posting a 1.59 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB in 17 innings over that stretch.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Earns save Sunday

Bednar allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and earned a save against the Blue Jays on Sunday. Bednar worked around a one-out single by Nathan Lukes to close out the 4-3 victory. It was Bednar's fifth save since joining the Yankees and 22nd of the year in 25 chances. He's allowed one run over his last 7.1 innings, dropping his season ERA to 2.47 through 54.2 frames. Bednar earned saves Saturday and Sunday, and he's pitched in three of the last four games. The Yankees are off Monday before starting a three-game home series against Detroit on Tuesday.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Nails down second save with Yankees

Bednar picked up the save Friday against St. Louis, striking out two in a clean ninth inning. Bednar registered his 19th save of the year and his second as a member of the Yankees, also turning in his fifth scoreless outing in a row. Fellow high-leverage arm Camilo Doval has a poor 6.35 ERA over seven appearances in August, and Devin Williams also owns a pitiful 9.64 ERA across five outings this month. While that does appear to position Bednar as New York's current favorite for saves, he'll continue to have plenty of competition -- which also includes Luke Weaver -- for the closer role.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Works eighth inning, nabs hold

Bednar earned a hold against Texas on Monday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning. Bednar got the call in the eighth frame with the Yankees up by a run. He set the side down in order on 11 pitches (eight strikes). This was a much better outcome than in Bednar's team debut Aug. 1, when he allowed two runs on four hits over 1.2 innings. The veteran reliever entered in the seventh frame in that game, so it appears New York has him tabbed for a setup role. That said, Devin Williams blew his second straight save Monday and has yielded at least one run in three straight outings, so the team could shift to Bednar at closer if Williams continues to struggle.

  • Yankees' David Bednar: Takes blown save in team debut

Bednar was charged with a blown save in Friday's 13-12 loss to the Marlins, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks in 1.2 innings. He struck out two. Bednar didn't make an encouraging first impression in his team debut, giving up multiple runs for the first time since his May 19 outing versus the Reds. The 30-year-old right-hander should still work with the Yankees' high-leverage group going forward despite Friday's flop -- Bednar owns a 2.09 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 52:8 K:BB over his last 38.2 innings since and including April 19.

  • Pirates' David Bednar: Ends scoreless streak but nabs save

Bednar earned a save against the Giants on Monday, allowing one run on three hits over one inning. Bednar inherited a two-run lead when he entered in the ninth frame and just barely managed to hold on for the save. San Francisco put three of the first four batters on base against the closer, but Bednar got Mike Yastrzemski to pop out and Patrick Bailey to ground out to end the contest with just one run on his ledger. That was the first earned run the right-hander has allowed over his past 23 outings -- a dominant stretch in which he racked up 12 saves and posted a 29:5 K:BB across 22.1 innings. Bednar did throw 32 pitches Monday and has appeared three times in the past four days, so it wouldn't be surprising if he's deemed unavailable for Tuesday's contest.

  • Pirates' David Bednar: Earns 16th save

Bednar earned the save in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Diamondbacks, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning. Bednar was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth and needed just 13 pitches to convert his 16th straight save. In addition to his flawless saves streak, the 30-year-old has now gone 22 straight appearances without allowing an earned run. He owns a 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 51:10 K:BB across 37 innings this season and continues to boost his trade value ahead of next week's deadline.

  • Pirates' David Bednar: Secures 11th save

Bednar earned the save in Monday's 5-4 victory over the Brewers, allowing a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning with one strikeout. After yielding a leadoff single to Caleb Durbin, Bednar was bailed out when Durbin was caught attempting to steal second. The Pittsburgh closer then worked around a free pass to Jake Bauers to lock down his 95th career save. Since being recalled from the minor leagues April 19, Bednar has rounded back into All-Star form with a 2.10 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 37:5 K:BB over 25.2 innings while going a perfect 10-for-10 in save opportunities.

  • Pirates' David Bednar: Collects 10th save

Bednar earned the save against the Cubs on Friday after tossing a perfect 10th inning. Bednar was brought in for the 10th frame to protect the Pirates' 2-1 lead and took care of the top of the Cubs' order on just 13 pitches (11 strikes). He's recorded a save in four of his last five outings and has converted all 10 save opportunities this season. Bednar has a 3.42 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB across 23.2 innings this season.

  • Pirates' David Bednar: Collects first win of season

Bednar (1-4) picked up the win Friday, striking out the side in the ninth inning of a 5-4 victory over the Phillies. With the score tied 4-4 in the top of the ninth, Bednar carved up the Phillies' 8-9-1 hitters on 14 pitches (10 strikes), including an impressive three-pitch whiff of the red-hot Trea Turner to end the frame. The Bucs then pushed a run home to walk it off and get their closer his first win of the year. The right-hander appears to be back in top form and rewarding the organization's faith in him after a rough 2024 and early-season demotion in 2025 -- since rejoining the big-league roster in mid-April, Bednar has a 2.75 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 29:3 K:BB through 19.2 innings while converting all six of his save chances.
