  • Allen Craig: Moves to front-office role

Craig retired from baseball to take a role in the Padres' front office as a baseball operations advisor, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

For a player who hit a respectable but unremarkable .276/.333/.435 over parts of six big-league seasons, Craig had quite a significant career. He appeared in two World Series, winning one in 2011 with the Cardinals, and was an All-Star in 2013. He was credited with the game-winning RBI in three of the Cardinals' wins in the 2011 series.

  • Padres' Allen Craig: Re-ups with Padres

Craig signed a minor-league deal with San Diego on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of Zone Coverage reports.

Craig agreed to return to the Padres' organization after spending last season with the team's Triple-A affiliate. Across 92 games with El Paso, he hit .293/.375/.479 with 13 home runs and 59 RBI, but the 34-year-old never got a promotion back to the big leagues. Craig hasn't played in a major-league game since the 2015 season, though he's not a terrible depth piece for a young team.

  • Padres' Allen Craig: Heads to minor-league camp

The Padres reassigned Craig to their minor-league camp Sunday.

Craig hasn't surfaced in the big leagues since 2015 and doesn't appear likely to return anytime soon following back-to-back underwhelming campaigns in the International League as a member of the Red Sox organization. The 33-year-old will serve as outfield depth for the Padres at Triple-A El Paso this season after inking a minor-league deal with San Diego in January.

  • Padres' Allen Craig: Agrees to minor-league deal with Padres

Craig signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Monday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.

Craig spent part of the 2017 season at Triple-A Pawtucket as a member of the Red Sox and hit .253/.352/.316 over 27 games. His lackluster performance ultimately resulted in him being released by the club during the season. He'll figure to provide organizational depth with San Diego.

  • Allen Craig: Released Friday

Craig was released by the Red Sox on Friday, Ryan Hannable of WEEI.com reports.

Craig, who hasn't seen major-league action since 2015, was slashing .253/.352/.316 in 27 games for Triple-A Pawtucket before being cut loose. The 32-year-old could catch on elsewhere given his previous success in the majors, but it seems unlikely he'll make it back to the big leagues.
