Yesavage did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing one run on a hit and no walks over two innings against the Orioles. He struck out three.

In his first outing since Aug. 4 after recovering from surgery to repair a torn meniscus, Yesavage's only blemish across two frames (40 pitches) was a solo homer to Pete Alonso in the first inning. A limited workload wasn't surprising for the young right-hander, as his lone rehab appearance with Triple-A Buffalo was limited to two-thirds of an inning. On the year, Yesavage owns a 3.67 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 94:46 K:BB across 95.2 innings (19 starts), and it remains to be seen if he'll make another appearance before the conclusion of the regular season.

The Royals activated Gonsolin (elbow) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

Gonsolin logged a rehab start Thursday against Triple-A Iowa, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three over five innings, and the club has determined that he's ready to return from the shelf after undergoing Tommy John surgery with an internal brace procedure in August 2025. It remains to be seen whether he'll draw a start before the 2026 season comes to a close or if he'll work out of bullpen for the final six games of the year.

Baz was jumped on early, surrendering three runs in the first frame, but he settled in and churned out a quality start. The right-hander was removed from his previous start Tuesday versus the Mets after being struck in the elbow by a comebacker, but making his turn in the rotation and operating with a normal workload suggests it's a non-issue. With an overall 6-15 record, 4.11 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 154:63 K:BB across 179.2 innings (31 starts), Baz is lined up to toe the slab this weekend against the Yankees to close the regular season.

Montero (10-9) earned the win Monday over the Nationals. He allowed a hit and a walk while striking out five over four scoreless innings of bulk relief.

Entering after three innings from River Ryan, Montero spun four shutout frames to earn his 10th win of the campaign. It was a positive showing for the right-hander after surrendering 10 runs in 12 innings over his past three starts. On the year, Montero owns a 3.48 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 107:37 K:BB in 155 innings (32 appearances), and it remains to be seen if he'll make another appearance before the conclusion of the regular season. However, it wouldn't be surprising if he works in tandem with Ryan again for the season finale Sunday versus Pittsburgh.

Ryan looked strong in his Tigers debut and first big-league appearance since August 2024, keeping the Nationals off the scoreboard before departing at 43 pitches (26 strikes). The shortened workload doesn't come as much of a surprise given that the 28-year-old logged just 4.2 frames over two starts with Triple-A Toledo before being recalled. In five career starts in the majors, Ryan has posted a stellar 1.16 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB across 23.1 innings. The right-hander is tentatively lined up to make one more start to close the regular season Sunday against the Pirates.

The Tigers recalled Ryan from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Ryan will make his Tigers debut Monday with a start against the Nationals, though he will be limited after topping out at 2.2 innings and 39 pitches over two starts at Triple-A Toledo upon returning from the 7-day injured list. Acquired from the Dodgers on Aug. 2, Ryan missed all of 2025 due to Tommy John surgery and was shelved for nearly three months by a hamstring injury in 2026. The 28-year-old has flashed electric stuff when on the bump, however, and logged a 1.33 ERA and 18:9 K:BB over 20.1 frames in four starts for Los Angeles in 2024. Ryan is in line for a second start this week on Sunday versus the Pirates, though his workload will be limited in that outing as well.

The Tigers placed Melton on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right arm fatigue.

While it's unfortunate that Melton's season will end with him on the IL, it's good news that he appears to have avoided any structural issues with his pitching arm. He had a 7.79 ERA in four September starts, so the fatigue could be something that's nagged at Melton for a little while. Even after the poor final month, Melton will finish with a 2.76 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 94:37 K:BB over 114.1 innings covering 20 starts for the Tigers.

Cease does not need surgery on his injured right shoulder, but his immediate availability is up in the air, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

An MRI showed inflammation, with Cease saying his shoulder feels a "bit heavy and achy and not normal." In the unlikely event that the Blue Jays squeeze their way into the postseason, the right-hander could eventually return to pitch. However, it's a long shot that he will be back later this week before the curtains close on the regular season. Cease has collected a 2.40 ERA and 239:78 K:BB over 169 innings covering 29 starts in his first year with the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays activated Yesavage (knee) from the 15-day injured list Monday.

Yesavage will rejoin the rotation with a start Monday versus the Orioles after being shelved since early August following meniscus surgery on his left knee. He threw only 34 pitches over two-thirds of an inning during his lone rehab outing, and the Blue Jays are aiming to get just three frames out of Yesavage against Baltimore. The right-hander has authored a 3.65 ERA and 91:46 K:BB over 93.2 frames covering 18 starts in the big leagues this season.

Gore (shoulder/back) will start Tuesday's game against the Mets in Arlington.

Gore was limited to four innings and 69 pitches during his previous outing Wednesday against the Red Sox while he dealt with spasms in his shoulder and upper back area, but he apparently checked out fine during his between-starts bullpen session and will return to the bump on five days rest. The southpaw will tentatively line up for two starts during the final week of the season, though he could have his turn Sunday in Minnesota skipped if the Rangers' playoff positioning is secure.
