Pirates' Jacob Gonzalez: Traded to Pirates
The White Sox traded Gonzalez and Brandon Eisert to the Pirates on Friday in exchange for minor-league reliever Jaden Woods and the 34th pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
After sending him down to Triple-A earlier in the day, the White Sox will now send Gonzalez out to Pittsburgh to help bolster the Pirates' infield depth. The 24-year-old has slashed .244/.323/.360 across 97 plate appearances in the majors since making his MLB debut May 31, but he boasts a 1.040 OPS at the Triple-A level. With Konnor Griffin (finger) expected to miss multiple months and Spencer Horwitz (hamstring) also on the IL, Gonzalez could get an opportunity to contribute right away for the big club.

The White Sox optioned Gonzalez to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
Gonzalez was recalled for his major-league debut last month after Munetaka Murakami (hamstring) was sent to the injured list. Across 97 trips to the plate, Gonzalez slashed .244/.323/.360 with two homers, 17 RBI, 11 runs scored and an 8:22 BB:K. With Murakami back from the IL, Gonzalez will head back to Charlotte.

The White Sox fell into an early 1-0 hole, but Gonzalez got his team on the board in the top of the third with an RBI double. Gonzalez has delivered key run production for his club lately, tallying nine RBI over his last four games. Gonzalez launched a three-run homer in the third inning before adding a two-run single in the seventh, falling a triple shy of the cycle in the first three-hit effort of his career. The rookie has now logged back-to-back multi-hit games after entering Wednesday's contest mired in a 0-for-25 slump over his previous 10 contests. Through his first 65 major-league plate appearances, Gonzalez is slashing .228/.323/.351 with two home runs, 10 RBI and eight runs scored.

Gonzalez now has at least one hit in three of his first four appearances in the majors. Prior to his promotion, the 23-year-old blasted 18 home runs across 238 plate appearances with Triple-A Charlotte, though he had little track record of power throughout the rest of his minor-league career.
