Reds' Hunter Greene: Appointment scheduled for elbow
Greene will visit Dr. Neal El Attrache in Los Angeles on Thursday for his right elbow injury, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Greene felt discomfort in his throwing elbow after Tuesday's side session, which prompted the Reds to place him on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. He opened the year on the IL after having bone chips removed from his right elbow in March and didn't make his 2026 debut until early July. Thursday's scheduled visit in Los Angeles will determine Greene's recovery timeline for the rest of the season.

Reds' Hunter Greene: Shelved to injured list
Cincinnati placed Greene on the 15-day injured list with right elbow soreness on Wednesday, retroactive to August 2.
Greene, who made his season debut on July 4, has made just five starts this season and will now make his second stint on the IL. The 26-year-old missed the first half of the regular season due to surgery on his throwing elbow and is now battling another issue on his other elbow. Through 27.2 innings this campaign, Greene owns a 2-2 record, 6.83 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 33:9 K:BB. The Reds recalled Luis Mey to replace Greene on the 26-man roster.

Reds' Hunter Greene: Settles for no-decision Friday
Greene didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 8-7 win over the Pirates, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.
A potential pitchers' duel with Paul Skenes never materialized, as the two young righties gave up two runs each in the first inning and wound up getting tagged for three homers and nine runs between them. Greene left the mound after 91 pitches (60 strikes) as he continues to struggle to find his peak form following March elbow surgery, and through five outings and 27.2 innings in July he managed a 6.83 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 33:9 K:BB. Greene will look to dial things up in his next start, which is set to come at home next week against the A's.

Reds' Hunter Greene: Hit hard in loss
Greene (2-2) allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings to take the loss versus the Cardinals on Saturday.
Greene has had a pair of quality starts and a pair of not-so-quality starts over his four outings since he returned from elbow surgery. The right-hander set a season low for strikeouts Saturday, and while he didn't give up a home run, the Cardinals had no trouble taking advantage of his mistakes. Greene is now at a 7.06 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 29:7 K:BB through 21.2 innings this season. He is projected to make his next start at home versus the Pirates.

Greene (2-1) earned the win Sunday against the Rockies, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out seven over six innings.
Greene surrendered a solo homer to Hunter Goodman in the first inning but responded by allowing just one hit over the next four frames. Goodman got to him again with a two-run shot in the sixth, though Cincinnati had already plated nine runs by then. Greene's outing landed in between his two previous starts since returning from the injured list -- an eight-run clunker and a dominant seven-scoreless-inning, 12-strikeout performance. He's lined up to face the Cardinals on the road in his next scheduled start.

Greene was roughed up for eight runs in his 2026 debut against the Orioles this past Saturday, but he looked like his old self in Friday's home game. He struck out the side in the sixth inning and limited the Cubs to just four baserunners, and his 12 punchouts were tied for the second-most in his major-league career, the fourth time he's reached that mark. Friday was almost certainly Greene's final outing before the All-Star break, and his return to the rotation is key for a Reds team looking to make a late playoff push for the second half of the 2026 season.

Greene allowed a three-run homer in the first inning before being charged with five runs while recording only one out in the fourth. Reds' Hunter Greene: Officially activated from 60-day IL
The Reds activated Greene (elbow) from the 60-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start against the Orioles on Saturday.
Greene is finally ready to make his 2026 debut after fully recovering from arthroscopic surgery in mid-March to remove bone chips in his right elbow. The 26-year-old right-hander is looking to build off a strong 2025 regular season, when he went 7-4 across 19 starts with a 2.76 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 132:26 K:BB across 107.2 innings. In corresponding moves, right-hander Chase Petty was optioned to Triple-A Louisville and outfielder Will Benson was designated for assignment.

Greene (elbow) will make his season debut for the Reds on Saturday versus the Orioles, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.
Manager Terry Francona had said previously that Greene would take the ball either Friday or Saturday, and it's now official that the hard-throwing righty will pitch on Independence Day. Brady Singer will get the start in Friday's series opener. Greene is coming back from arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow, which he underwent in mid-March. The hurler was excellent in three rehab starts, posting a 13:2 K:BB over 14.1 scoreless innings. Greene logged 82 pitches and 6.1 frames in his final rehab outing, so he should be prepared for close to a full workload Saturday.

Reds' Hunter Greene: On track to start this weekend
Greene (elbow) rejoined the Reds for the beginning of the team's road trip in Milwaukee on Monday and said that he expects to return from the 60-day injured list to start either Friday or Saturday versus the Orioles in Cincinnati, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
While Greene won't be activated until later this week, his rehab assignment has officially come to an end. Greene, who had surgery March 11 to remove bone chips from his right elbow, looked dominant over his three rehab starts (two at Triple-A Louisville, one in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League). During his final outing with Louisville on Sunday, Greene struck out four and allowed just one baserunner over 6.1 innings while building his pitch count up to 82, so he should be ready to handle a typical starter's workload in his 2026 Reds debut. Cincinnati is listing Brady Singer as its probable starter for Friday, so Greene appears to be trending toward pitching Saturday.

Greene (elbow) struck out four and allowed one hit and no walks over 6.1 scoreless innings Sunday in a rehab start with Triple-A Louisville.
In what was likely the third and final start of his rehab assignment, Greene answered any questions about his readiness to join the big-league rotation. During Sunday's outing, the 26-year-old righty averaged 98.8 mph with his four-seam fastball -- just under a tick below his average with the Reds from the 2025 season -- and racked up 12 swinging strikes on 82 pitches (54 strikes). Assuming he checks out fine following his next bullpen session, Greene will likely come off the 60-day injured list to make his 2026 Reds debut during this weekend's series with the Orioles in Cincinnati. Greene was placed on the shelf coming out of spring training after he underwent arthroscopic surgery March 11 to remove bone chips from his right elbow.

Reds manager Terry Francona said Wednesday that Greene (elbow) will make one more rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati reports.

Greene (elbow) struck out three and scattered two hits and one walk over four scoreless frames in a rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.
Greene threw 64 pitches in his second rehab outing and first with Louisville. He averaged 98.4 mph with his four-seamer Tuesday, down a bit from his average of 99.5 mph last season. His results have been excellent through his first two rehab starts, with Greene firing eight scoreless innings with a 9:2 K:BB. Per MLB.com, Greene is expected to build up to 70-to-85 pitches in one final rehab start with Louisville on Sunday before returning from the 60-day injured list in the first week of July. He's working his way back from mid-March surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow.
