  • Mets' Christian Scott: Confirmed for Wednesday's start

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Scott will be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to start Wednesday versus the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

While Mendoza didn't commit to Scott making additional starts in the majors beyond Wednesday, the opportunity would seem to be there for the rookie right-hander after Tylor Megill was optioned to Triple-A on Sunday. Scott holds a 3.90 ERA and 25:6 K:BB over 27.2 innings in five starts with the big club this season.

  • Mets' Christian Scott: Poised for MLB start this week

Scott is expected to be called up from Triple-A Syracuse to start either Wednesday or Thursday in Washington, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Scott had been listed as Syracuse's starter for Monday, but he was scratched from the outing for non-injury reasons. The Mets have already confirmed David Peterson and Sean Manaea as their starters for the first two games in Washington, so Scott could slot into the rotation as early as Wednesday while New York navigates a stretch of 17 games in 17 days leading into the All-Star break. Scott turned in a 3.90 ERA and 25:6 K:BB over 27.2 innings in five starts earlier this season for New York. He's posted a 2.76 ERA and 55:12 K:BB in 42.1 frames covering nine starts with Syracuse.

  • Mets' Christian Scott: Could get call soon

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza acknowledged Sunday that Scott has a "good chance" of being called up from Triple-A Syracuse to enter the rotation during the team's upcoming stretch of 17 games in 17 days that begins Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. "He's in play," Mendoza said.

The Mets have already confirmed their starters through Saturday, so Scott could be called up as early as Sunday's series finale versus the Astros. More likely, the Mets will allow Scott to make another start at Triple-A this week before having him join the big-league rotation for next week's series in Washington. According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, Scott has been working on his sweeper during his latest stint with Syracuse, and over three starts since his demotion in late May, he's posted a 2.08 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB in 13 innings.

  • Mets' Christian Scott: Likely stuck at Triple-A, for now

Scott allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six over 3.2 innings for Triple-A Syracuse against Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said earlier this week -- prior to Scott's outing Wednesday -- that the plan was for the right-hander to remain at Syracuse for the time being, per Alex Smith of SNY. "We're still having conversations, but with all the off days we have coming up, we feel like a five-man rotation is what's best for us moving forward," Mendoza said. The 24-year-old Scott has struck out 49 batters in 34 innings with Syracuse this season, though he has also struggled to keep the ball in the yard, both at Triple-A and in his brief time in the majors so far. He should be up again later this season, but the organization seems to be pumping the brakes on an imminent return.
