Rangers' Jack Leiter: Shifts to 60-day IL
The Rangers transferred Leiter (ankle) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
The right-hander has been on the shelf since mid-June, so the move to the 60-day IL isn't expected to affect his return timeline. Leiter threw 33 pitches over two innings of live batting practice Saturday and is set to throw a bullpen session Monday, per Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. According to Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com, if Monday's side session goes well, Leiter will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco on Thursday and will be slated to throw 2-to-3 innings.

Leiter (ankle) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session with more intensity Saturday, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.
Leiter underwent surgery one month ago to remove a loose body from his right ankle region. He resumed mound work over the All-Star break and will try throwing with more effort this weekend. If that goes well, Leiter can get the go-ahead to continue a throwing progression. The Rangers have not revealed a timeline for the righty, but he is several weeks away from a return.

Leiter is expected back before the end of the season but is without an official recovery timeline, so it's safe to assume he'll be sidelined for the foreseeable future. The right-hander landed on the injured list over the weekend due to a posterior impingement in his right ankle, which he apparently has been pitching through for most of the campaign.

Rangers' Jack Leiter: Hits IL with ankle issue
The Rangers placed Leiter on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right ankle posterior impingement.
While Leiter hasn't been forced to miss any turns through the rotation as a result of the ankle injury, he's been pitching through the issue for most of the season, and his conditioned worsened when he slipped on the field during an April 22 start, per Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News. Pitching through the ankle concern could be a factor in why the 26-year-old righty hasn't taken the step forward this season that both the Rangers and fantasy managers were counting on, as he's turned in a 5.29 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 80 innings over his first 15 starts. Texas recalled Jose Corniell from Triple-A Round Rock to take over Leiter's spot on the 26-man active roster, but it's not immediately clear who will replace Leiter in the rotation.

Rangers' Jack Leiter: Takes third straight loss
Leiter (3-7) took the loss Thursday against the Twins, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out four.
The Twins got to Leiter early Thursday, scoring four runs in the first inning, capped by a Brooks Lee three-run blast. He'd give up another two runs on a Trevor Larnach homer in the fourth. It's been a tough stretch of late for Leiter, who's lost his last three starts while giving up 15 earned runs across 13.2 innings. His ERA now sits at 5.29 with a 1.44 WHIP and 83:35 K:BB across 15 starts (80 innings) this season. Leiter will look to turn things around his next time out, tentatively slated to come next week on the road in Miami.

Rangers' Jack Leiter: Struggles again Friday
Leiter (3-6) took the loss against the Red Sox on Friday, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out three batters across five innings.
Leiter had a 1-0 lead to work with when he first took the mound Friday, but he watched it quickly disappear as Wilyer Abreu drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and Willson Contreras homered in the next at-bat to make it a 2-1 game after the first inning. Leiter then gave up four consecutive hits to lead off the fifth inning, sparking a four-run outburst from the Red Sox that would put the game well out of reach. The 26-year-old righty has now given up exactly five earned runs in back-to-back starts and has amassed just five combined strikeouts during those outings. He'll aim to right the ship next week against the Twins at home.

Rangers' Jack Leiter: Takes step back Saturday
Leiter (3-5) took the loss against Cleveland on Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two batters over 4.2 innings.
Leiter entered Saturday with back-to-back victories, including a 10-strikeout performance over 5.2 scoreless innings his previous time out. The right-hander opened his outing against Cleveland with three more scoreless frames before Jose Ramirez tagged him for a solo homer in the fourth. Things got much worse for Leiter in the fifth, when the Guardians got to him for four runs on a walk and four hits, including another solo homer, before he was lifted with two outs. The five runs Leiter allowed tied a season-worst mark, and this was the third time he's given up multiple homers in an outing. Overall, he has registered an unremarkable 4.69 ERA and 1.37 WHIP along with a 76:31 K:BB over 71 innings spanning 13 starts.

Leiter had an 8-0 lead to work with after one inning, and though he didn't dominate, the right-hander did more than enough to finish with a victory for the first time since his initial start of the campaign. Leiter threw 60 of 95 pitches for strikes and notched 12 whiffs. The 26-year-old isn't setting the world on fire with a 4.75 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through 60.2 innings, but he's been giving the Rangers length of late by completing six frames four times over his past six starts. Leiter is projected to next take the mound this weekend versus Kansas City.

Leiter pitched five innings Wednesday against the Rockies, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks to take a no-decision. He struck out five.
Leiter surrendered more than three runs in a start for the fifth time this season and remains without a win since his season debut March 30. The 26-year-old had a 3-1 lead after the top of the fourth inning Wednesday, but he walked home a run in the bottom of the frame and then gave up two more runs in the fifth. Leiter has a 4.61 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 60:23 K:BB across 54.2 innings this year and next lines up to face the Astros at home early next week.

Leiter (1-4) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Astros after allowing one run on three hits and three walks across seven innings. He struck out six.
Leiter's only mistake in his outing was the solo homer he gave up to Isaac Paredes in the third inning. It's only two starts, but Leiter seems to be turning things around after a tough stretch that saw him allow 21 runs (20 earned) on 27 innings across five starts between April 11 and May 3. Leiter has bounced back and has allowed just one run on 11.2 frames in his last two starts. Leiter will try to keep it rolling in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for next week against the Rockies on the road.
