  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Idle Saturday

McNeil isn't in the Mets' lineup for Saturday's game against Houston.

McNeil will get a day off Saturday after going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer during Friday's win. Jose Iglesias will start at second base instead and bat eighth.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Ends power drought Friday

McNeil went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and a second run scored in Friday's 7-2 win over the Astros.

The second baseman took Ronel Blanco deep in the sixth inning, the third of three Mets homers on the night. It was McNeil's first long ball since May 22, snapping a 23-game power outage, and the performance was his first three-hit game since May 7. He'll need more than one good game to earn the trust of fantasy GMs again, however -- on the season, McNeil is slashing a feeble .212/.283/.312 with four home runs, four steals, 19 RBI and 31 runs in 72 contests.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Nabs fourth steal

McNeil went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Yankees.

It's the 32-year-old's first multi-hit performance since June 9, with McNeil batting a brutal .088 (3-for-34) in between. The career .291 hitter is slashing just .216/.281/.298 on the season, and his lengthy slump -- as well as a hot start to Jose Iglesias' Mets tenure -- has put McNeil's playing time in a bit of jeopardy. He may need to string together a few more solid efforts to avoid losing his hold on even a strong-side platoon role at second base.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Sitting again versus lefty

McNeil is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Cubs.

McNeil has been out of the lineup for two straight games and seven times over the last eight occasions that the Mets have faced a left-hander, and he's pretty clearly in a platoon at second base with Jose Iglesias. Iglesias and his teammates will try to solve southpaw Shota Imanaga on Friday.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Out against left-hander

McNeil is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

With Texas starting southpaw Andrew Heaney, the left-handed-hitting McNeil will take a seat. Jose Iglesias will handle second base as the Mets seek their eighth win in a row.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Absent from lineup

McNeil is out of the starting nine for Tuesday's game against the Marlins.

McNeil will give way to Jose Iglesias at second base with southpaw Jesus Luzardo on the mound for Miami on Tuesday. McNeil remains in the strong side of a platoon with Iglesias, with Iglesias owning a 1.067 OPS in 15 plate appearances against LHP compared to McNeil's .653 OPS against lefties.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Sitting versus southpaw

McNeil isn't in the Mets' lineup Saturday against the Phillies, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

With left-hander Ranger Suarez slated to start on the mound for Philadelphia, the lefty-hitting McNeil will step out of the lineup Saturday. Jose Iglesias starts at the keystone, batting eighth.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Hitting bench against lefty again

McNeil is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The Mets have opposed left-handed starting pitchers in three straight games, and the lefty-hitting McNeil has been on the bench for each of those contests. McNeil hasn't been a strict platoon player for much of his tenure with the Mets, but manager Carlos Mendoza has chosen to limit the 32-year-old's exposure to southpaws while he's mustered a modest .275 wOBA over 69 plate appearances against lefties on the season. McNeil hasn't fared much better against right-handed pitching either (.281 wOBA in 155 plate appearances), but the Mets haven't offered any indication that he's at risk of losing out on starts in those matchups.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Won't face lefty

McNeil is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

The lefty-hitting McNeil will once again give way to Jose Iglesias at second base with a left-handed pitcher (DJ Herz) on the mound for the opposition. Iglesias will bat eighth in place of McNeil, who should continue to see the bulk of the playing time at the keystone when the Mets oppose right-handers.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Sitting against southpaw Monday

McNeil is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

The lefty-hitting McNeil is being withheld from the lineup for Mets' second straight matchup with a left-hander (MacKenzie Gore), as he had previously taken a seat when New York opposed Arizona southpaw Jordan Montgomery on Monday. McNeil could be moving into the strong side of a platoon at second base with the righty-hitting Jose Iglesias, who will draw another start.

  • Mets' Jeff McNeil: Cranks second homer

McNeil went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and a second run scored in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Guardians.

McNeil poked a one-out double in the fifth inning and came around to score on a Francisco Lindor single. He then cut the Mets' deficit to 5-4 with a two-run homer off left-hander Sam Hentges, his second of the year. It's been a tough start to the year for McNeil, though he's shown signs of life of late, going 6-for-19 with no strikeouts in his last five games. Overall, the 32-year-old second baseman is slashing .240/.314/.329 with 18 runs scored, 12 RBI and three steals across 186 plate appearances this season.
