  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Punches out 10 in third loss

Flaherty (0-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Red Sox, allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits and one walk in five innings. He struck out 10. Although he remained winless on the campaign, it was still one of Flaherty's better performances so far. The right-hander fanned a season-high 10, issued fewer than two walks for the first time this year and also pitched at least five frames while yielding two runs or fewer for just the third time in eight starts. Flaherty still has a disappointing 5.56 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 42:26 K:BB over 34 innings, but he's next set for a soft matchup against the Mets.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Struggles continue Friday

Flaherty allowed four runs on five hits across 3.2 innings and did not factor into the decision in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Rangers. He walked three and struck out four. For the third straight start, Flaherty failed to pitch at least four innings, and he has an ugly 10.00 ERA and 2.67 WHIP during this stretch. Overall, the righty has a 5.90 ERA and 1.79 WHIP, and he's already walked 25 batters across 29 innings this season. Flaherty should get the opportunity to work out of his funk, but he's hard to trust right now from a fantasy perspective. His next outing is scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Red Sox.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Rocked by Reds on Saturday

Flaherty (0-2) took the loss against Cincinnati on Saturday, surrendering six runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over two innings. Flaherty was staked to a 1-0 lead after half an inning, but he quickly fell behind by yielding two homers for four total runs in the bottom of the frame. The Reds got to him for another long ball in the second, and Flaherty wasn't allowed to return to the mound for the third. The three long balls were a season worst for Flaherty, who had given up just one homer over his five starts prior to Saturday. It's been an up-and-down campaign, as Flaherty holds a 5.33 ERA despite yielding one or no earned runs in three of his six outings. His next start is projected to be a home matchup versus Texas.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Loses control in no-decision

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision Monday against the Red Sox, allowing two runs (zero earned) on three hits and six walks in 3.1 innings. He struck out three. With Monday's game having an early first-pitch time of 11:10 a.m. ET, Flaherty appeared to be a step slow on the mound. It was the third time in his career that the right-hander issued at least six walks, and the Tigers decided they'd seen enough after he threw a season-low 73 pitches (41 strikes). Flaherty has a strong 3.47 ERA through 23.1 innings, but his 1.59 WHIP and 24:20 K:BB are major causes for concern ahead of a difficult task at hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park against the Reds in his next start.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Sharp again in no-decison

Flaherty did not factor into the decision Wednesday against the Royals, allowing one run on two hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings. The right-hander was dominant for much of the outing, opening the game with four strikeouts over the first two innings while needing just 25 pitches. Flaherty's only blemish came in the fifth, when back-to-back walks set up an RBI single from Kyle Isbel. After a mediocre start to the year, the 30-year-old has looked much sharper over his last two starts, allowing just two runs while striking out 13 across 11.2 innings. Flaherty has now lowered his season ERA to 4.05, but his 14 walks remain a concern, and he'll seek to keep building momentum in his next scheduled outing against Boston.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Takes no-decision Thursday

Flaherty allowed one run on five hits across 5.2 innings and did not factor into the decision in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Twins. He walked three and struck out six. Flaherty dealt with his fair share of baserunners on the afternoon, but he limited the damage and ultimately had a solid outing. The only run allowed by the righty came on a Josh Bell solo homer in the fourth inning. This was Flaherty's longest start of the season so far, and he managed to lower his ERA to 5.14 in the process. He also has 14 strikeouts across 14 total innings. Flaherty is still in search of his first win of the year, and he'll look to pick that up in his next appearance, which is scheduled for Wednesday against Kansas City.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Falls short of win Saturday

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 11-6 win over the Cardinals, getting charged with five runs on three hits and four walks over four-plus innings. He struck out six. Facing the team he made his big-league debut with in 2017, Flaherty was cruising with a 7-1 lead heading into the fifth inning, but he put the first four batters of the frame on base before getting the hook after 86 pitches (47 strikes). Jordan Walker then greeted reliever Drew Anderson with a grand slam, tacking three more runs onto Flaherty's ledger. The veteran right-hander has fallen short of lasting five innings in both his starts to begin the year, posting a 7.56 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 8:8 K:BB through 8.1 innings. He'll try to find some consistency in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Minnesota.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Strikes out four in spring start

Flaherty allowed a run on a hit and a walk across two innings of work in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies. He struck out four. Flaherty has been eased in to action so far this spring, as he's logged just three innings across two Grapefruit League appearances so far, but he shouldn't need much work to get ready for the year. The veteran righty is coming off an up-and-down 2025 campaign in which he posted a 4.64 ERA across 161 regular-season innings but also struck out 188 batters. Flaherty had a much sharper 3.17 ERA in 2024, his first season with the Tigers before getting traded to the Dodgers at the deadline that year. He should slot into the middle of Detroit's rotation in 2026, potentially right behind Tarik Skubal and new addition Framber Valdez.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Four strikeouts in Game 3

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision in Thursday's 6-3 win over Cleveland, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four batters across 4.2 innings. Flaherty turned in a very strong performance in Thursday's do-or-die meeting, giving up just one run on an RBI single from Jose Ramirez in the fourth inning. The right-hander wasn't able to make it through the fifth inning, however, which kept him from earning the win once Detroit took the lead on a sixth-inning homer from Dillon Dingler. Now that the Tigers have earned the right to face the Mariners in the ALDS, Flaherty figures to make at least one more start in the postseason -- possibly during Game 3 on Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Can't stem historic collapse

Flaherty (8-15) took the loss Wednesday, giving up three runs on five hits over 4.1 innings as the Tigers were downed 5-1 by the Guardians. He struck out six without walking a batter. The veteran righty didn't pitch poorly, tossing 55 of 83 pitches for strikes before getting an early hook, but Detroit's offense stayed quiet. Since an eight-run meltdown Aug. 24, Flaherty has delivered a solid 3.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 24.1 innings in five starts, but that hasn't been enough to stop an epic collapse by the Tigers, who have squandered a 15.5-game lead in the AL Central and now sit one game back of the Guardians with four contests left on the schedule. Unless he's needed over the final weekend in an all-hands-on-deck scenario, Flaherty wraps up his 2025 campaign with a 4.64 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 188:59 K:BB though 161 innings.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Labors in no-decision

Flaherty did not factor into the decision in Friday's 7-5 loss to the White Sox, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 4.1 innings. Flaherty threw just 49 of 83 pitches for strikes and allowed runs in four separate innings. It continued an up-and-down second half for the 29-year-old, who has surrendered four or more earned runs in four of his past nine outings while holding opponents to one run or fewer in another four. He'll carry a 4.85 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 171:54 K:BB across 146.2 innings into a road matchup with the Yankees next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Rebounds with strong outing

Flaherty allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Kansas City on Saturday. Flaherty was crushed for eight runs over five frames against the Royals in his previous start, but he fared much better against the same offense Saturday. The right-hander gave up just one run on a solo shot by Maikel Garcia in the fourth frame and finished one out shy of a quality start. It was a fitting end to what has been a very inconsistent August for the veteran hurler -- he surrendered five-plus runs in three starts while giving up one or zero runs in each of his other three outings.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Twirls gem vs. Houston

Flaherty (7-12) earned the win Monday against the Astros, throwing seven scoreless innings while allowing three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. This performance was a welcome sight for Flaherty, who entered the contest on the heels of back-to-back outings allowing five earned runs. The Detroit right-hander notched his 10th quality start of the season, as he threw 60 of his 90 total pitches for strikes. The 29-year-old lowered his season ERA from 4.76 to 4.51 across 131.2 total frames to go with a 1.29 WHIP and 162:50 K:BB. Flaherty will look to continue his good form when he next takes the mound at home against Kansas City this weekend.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Unravels in fifth, takes loss

Flaherty (6-12) took the loss to the White Sox on Tuesday, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out six over 4.1 innings. The right-hander cruised through four scoreless frames before unraveling in the fifth, surrendering six hits and all five of his runs in the inning before being lifted. After a strong July in which he never allowed more than three runs in a start, Flaherty has now been tagged for five earned runs in back-to-back outings. He'll carry a 4.76 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 153:49 K:BB into his next scheduled start early next week against the Astros.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Strikes out seven in no-decision

Flaherty did not factor into the decision in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies, allowing one run on two hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over six innings. Flaherty departed with a 3-0 lead after allowing a leadoff single in the seventh inning, but the inherited runner would come around to score as the Phillies plated three runs in the frame. The 29-year-old generated 15 whiffs on 90 pitches and has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in seven straight outings, a stretch that includes four quality starts. He'll take a 4.36 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 144:47 K:BB across 115.2 innings into a home matchup with the Twins next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Fires six shutout innings

Flaherty (6-10) allowed five hits and a walk over six scoreless innings Sunday, striking out seven and earning a win over Toronto. Flaherty was dominant Sunday and never faced much of a threat from the Blue Jays' lineup. He fired 70 of 106 pitches for strikes and forced 16 whiffs, including seven with his slider. It was his first win since June 8, and it snapped an ugly 0-4 skid over his previous seven outings. During that span, he produced a 7.79 ERA over 32.1 frames. Flaherty now owns a 4.51 ERA with a 137:44 K:BB through 109.2 innings. He's lined up to take the mound in Philadelphia next weekend.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Another solid start

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Seattle, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over five innings. Flaherty punched out at least seven batters for a fourth straight outing, and he hasn't allowed more than three runs in a start during that stretch. The four-start spurt has come immediately after a pair of appearances in which Flaherty allowed eight and seven runs, respectively. He owns a 4.65 ERA and a 124:40 K:BB across 100.2 innings this season, with his strikeout total ranking 15th in MLB.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Start postponed Tuesday

Flaherty won't start as scheduled Tuesday against the Nationals since the game was postponed due to inclement weather. The contest will be made up via a split doubleheader Wednesday, with Flaherty likely to start one of those games. The veteran right-hander is in the midst of a three-start losing streak and has a 12.46 ERA, 2.15 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB across 13 innings during that span.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Clobbered for eight runs

Flaherty (5-8) took the loss against the Rays on Friday, allowing eight runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three across 2.1 innings. It was another rough outing for Flaherty, who gave up four runs in the first inning before being tagged for four more in the third. He has yielded 15 earned runs over his last two outings, which overshadows the four consecutive quality starts that he logged prior to his recent struggles. Flaherty is projected to make his next start against the Athletics at home next week.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Fans nine, blanks Cubs

Flaherty (5-6) earned the win against the Cubs on Sunday, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out nine across six scoreless innings. Flaherty retired the first nine batters he faced, and he was able to keep the Cubs off the board after escaping a bases-loaded jam in the fourth. The 29-year-old right-hander has tossed four straight quality starts and has overcome a shaky start to the 2025 season. Flaherty now boasts a 3.41 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 71.1 innings this season, and his 85 strikeouts are fifth-most in the American League. He is in line to face the Reds at home next weekend.
