Rockies' Michael Lorenzen: Rebounds for first win
Lorenzen (1-1) earned the win Wednesday over the Astros, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out four.
It was certainly a step in the right direction for Lorenzen, as he held Houston to a lone second-inning run after giving up 12 runs in just 7.1 innings across his previous two outings. Lorenzen's ERA now sits at an even 9.00 with a 2.31 WHIP and 10:4 K:BB this season, so he's still got a long way to go to even out those figures. He's tentatively scheduled for a rematch with the Astros on the road in his next outing.

Rockies' Michael Lorenzen: Could pitch in relief on 'pen days
Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer said Tuesday that Lorenzen wants to be available to pitch in relief on his between-starts bullpen-session days, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
That day for Lorenzen was Monday, and he would have entered out of the bullpen against the Astros had Juan Mejia gotten into trouble in the ninth inning. Lorenzen remains scheduled to start Wednesday versus Houston but could be available to pitch in relief this weekend in San Diego. The righty has been touched up for 12 runs on 19 hits and two walks over 7.1 frames in his first two starts of the season.

Rockies' Michael Lorenzen: Lit up for nine runs
Lorenzen (0-1) suffered the loss Friday against the Phillies, allowing nine runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out two in three innings of work.
Things went wrong immediately for Lorenzen, as the first five batters he faced reached base, including two via walk. It escalated from there, and before the inning was over, the Phillies had scored seven times. The 34-year-old made it through two more innings after that, but it's certainly not a start that will go on his highlight reel. He has now allowed 12 runs and three home runs over 7.1 innings of work on the year. His next scheduled chance to bring down his 14.73 ERA will come Wednesday against the Astros.

Rockies' Michael Lorenzen: Labors in no-decision
Lorenzen did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings.
Lorenzen entered the fifth inning with a two-run lead but couldn't get out of the frame, exiting at 93 pitches after giving up a two-run homer to Liam Hicks. The 33-year-old signed a one-year, $8 million deal in January and should hold a secure spot in the rotation on a lowly Rockies club. He lines up for a tough home matchup against the Phillies next weekend.

Rockies' Michael Lorenzen: Signs with Rockies
Lorenzen signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Rockies on Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Lorenzen's new deal also includes a $9 million club option for the 2027 season. The 34-year-old right-hander took a step back in 2025, accumulating a 4.64 ERA and 1.33 WHIP alongside a 127:39 K:BB across 141.2 innings with the Royals. His chances of improving upon those numbers in 2026 have taken a hit now that he's slated to pitch his home games at Coors Field, but Colorado's weak pitching staff at least makes Lorenzen a safe bet to capture a rotation spot.

Lorenzen will become a free agent after the Royals declined the mutual option in his contract Sunday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Lorenzen will receive a $1.5 million buyout ahead of free agency. The right-hander appeared in 27 games, including 26 starts, with Kansas City in 2025, compiling a 4.64 ERA with 127 strikeouts over 141.2 innings. The 33-year-old owns a career 4.08 ERA and 7.5 K/9 over 11 major-league seasons, and he'll likely have plenty of interested suitors ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Lorenzen came up an out short of a quality start, but he was able to secure consecutive wins for just the second time all season. The nine strikeouts were a season high for the right-hander. Lorenzen (6-11) earned the win in Friday's 20-1 rout of the Blue Jays, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over 7.2 innings. He struck out four.
After conceding a solo homer to George Springer in the first, Lorenzen was able to settle in because his offense provided seven runs of support in the bottom of the inning. The veteran righty fired 113 total pitches in this outing, 71 of them being strikes, and took home his ninth quality start of the season. Despite generating an impressive 17 whiffs out of his 82 total pitches, Lorenzen had the misfortune of reaching the double-digit loss plateau for the first time in his 11-year career. The 33-year-old was bitten by the long ball -- coughing up two in an outing for the first time in his seven starts post-All-Star break -- with Byron Buxton and Kody Clemens going deep in the first and fourth, respectively. Through 124.1 total frames, Lorenzen now sports a 4.63 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 110:34 K:BB while yielding 21 homers. He currently lines up to make his next start at Philadelphia next weekend.

Royals' Michael Lorenzen: Allows four runs
Lorenzen allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six in five innings Tuesday against the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision.
The only loud contact allowed was a solo home run off the bat of Colson Montgomery in the second inning. Lorenzen was otherwise able to cruise through five frames but couldn't record an out after coming back out for the sixth, leading to three more runs charged against him. Lorenzen has now allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 16 hits over his last two starts, though he has racked up six strikeouts on both occasions, which is one below his season high. Lorenzen has just one win over his last eight starts and will look to change that next week against the Angels.

Royals' Michael Lorenzen: Can't make it through five
Lorenzen didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Rangers, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits and a walk across 4.1 innings. He struck out six.
While Lorenzen's final line could've looked much worse, the right-hander still failed to make it through the fifth inning after throwing 89 pitches. Overall, it was a step backwards for Lorenzen after he held the White Sox scoreless across four innings in his previous outing, which was his first following a month-long stint on the IL. Lorenzen sports a 4.50 ERA through 20 starts (108 innings) this season with a 1.34 WHIP and 94:32 K:BB.
