  • Mets' J.D. Martinez: Rejoining lineup Wednesday

Martinez (ankle) will be in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The 36-year-old was scratched from Tuesday's starting nine due to ankle soreness, which apparently surfaced because he was forced to try out a new pair of cleats. Martinez has since received another shipment of his usual cleats and shouldn't have any issues going forward.

  • Mets' J.D. Martinez: Slugs go-ahead homer in extras

Martinez went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and two walks in Monday's 9-7 win against the Nationals.

The New York designated hitter blasted a titanic 420-foot homer off Hunter Harvey in the 10th inning to break the tie. The round tripper was a welcome sight for Martinez, as he entered this contest in a bit of a cold spell, slashing .211/.333/.342 across 47 plate appearances over his previous 10 games with just one homer. The veteran power hitter now sports a .278 average with 10 home runs, 37 RBI and 22 runs scored in 209 at-bats overall.

  • Mets' J.D. Martinez: Scratched with ankle soreness

Martinez was scratched from the Mets' lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus Washington due to left ankle soreness, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

The severity of Martinez's injury isn't immediately apparent, but it's enough of a nuisance to keep him from playing Tuesday. Luis Torrens will step into the lineup as New York's designated hitter and bat sixth while Martinez rests.

  • Mets' J.D. Martinez: Homers, drives in four in win

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 11-1 victory over the Cubs.

Martinez opened the scoring with a three-run home run off Shota Imanaga in the first inning, and he then added an RBI single in the fourth. Martinez went 1-for-10 in a quiet series against the Rangers earlier this week but continued a nice June, as he's now hitting .297 with four home runs and 17 RBI in 64 at-bats. On the season, he owns a .287 average with nine homers and 31 RBI in 178 at-bats.

  • Mets' J.D. Martinez: On base four times Sunday

Martinez went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over the Padres.

The veteran DH was a key part of the Mets' 11-run eruption Sunday, and Martinez enjoyed a huge weekend overall against San Diego -- he went 6-for-9 at the plate with two doubles, two homers, six RBI and nine runs, and he reached base in 10 straight plate appearances during the three-game set. The 36-year-old is slashing .293/.363/.518 on the season with eight home runs and 27 RBI in 44 contests.
