  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Ready for season debut

Johnson (hamstring) does not have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. "Ty Johnson will be good to go," coach Joe Brady said Friday. He missed both of the first two games, but with receivers DJ Moore (shoulder) and Keon Coleman (ankle) both being listed as questionable, Johnson's receiving skills out of the backfield might be useful for the offense. Johnson really isn't recommended for fantasy unless anything happens to starter James Cook, but the former's presence on the field does knock Ray Davis down a peg.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Logs full practice Wednesday

Johnson (hamstring) practiced fully Wednesday. Johnson thus is poised for his season debut Sunday against the Chargers after missing the first two games of the campaign due to a hamstring issue. Working behind James Cook and vying with Ray Davis for complementary RB reps doesn't afford Johnson much in terms of touches, as he's earned 170 in 44 regular-season games over the last three years as a member of the Bills.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Limited in Tuesday's practice

Johnson (hamstring) was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice. Johnson has opened Week 2 prep with back-to-back limited practices, and Wednesday's report will provide clarity on whether he'll be available for Thursday night's home tilt against the Lions. The veteran running back is currently working through a right hamstring injury, and he's been dealing with lower-body issues since early training camp. Frank Gore would likely be elevated from the practice squad and serve as Buffalo's RB3 behind James Cook and Ray Davis if Johnson is not cleared to play against Detroit.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Estimated as limited Monday

The Bills listed Johnson (hamstring) as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report. After missing the Bills' first two practices of Week 1, Johnson returned to the field Friday as a limited participant and took a questionable tag into Sunday's season opener versus the Texans. Johnson ultimately was inactive for the 36-31 win, but he'll have a stronger chance of making his 2026 debut Thursday against the Lions if he can upgrade to full participation in practice at some point over the next two days.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Questionable for Week 1

Johnson (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game at Houston, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports. Johnson just returned to practice Thursday after missing a month, but head coach Joe Brady said Friday that the veteran running back "doesn't need a lot of the physical work to go do his job." If Johnson ends up inactive, it could push more snaps and targets toward starter James Cook, in addition to benefitting backup Ray Davis. The Bills have typically deployed Johnson as a passing-down specialist.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Practicing, may not play

Johnson (hamstring) is practicing Friday, but Alex Brasky of SI.com believes the running back is unlikely to play Sunday in Houston. Johnson returned to practice Thursday after missing a full month, so the Bills will probably wait until Week 2 or 3 to have him suit up. James Cook could get a few extra snaps in passing situations, while Ray Davis also gets a minor boost for workload projection in Johnson's absence.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Not practicing Thursday

Johnson (hamstring) didn't practice Thursday, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports. Johnson continues to miss practice due to the hamstring injury, which has kept him sidelined since Aug. 8. Though Johnson avoided placement on injured reserve coming out of the preseason, his 2026 debut could be delayed until at least Week 2 if he's unable to practice in some capacity Friday. In the event Johnson is sidelined for Sunday's season opener versus the Texans, Frank Gore could be elevated from the practice squad to provide a third option in the backfield behind James Cook and Ray Davis.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Sitting out Wednesday's practice

Johnson (lower leg) isn't participating in Wednesday's practice, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports. Johnson has been a spectator for practices since Aug. 8, when he appeared to sustain a right leg injury during a 1-on-1 drill. Though he still has two more days to potentially fit in some on-field work prior to Sunday's game against the Texans, Johnson may be trending toward an absence in Week 1. If Johnson ends up missing the season opener, the Bills would have more snaps on passing downs available for lead back James Cook.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Remains sidelined at practice

Johnson (lower leg) didn't practice Monday, Ryan Miller of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports. Per the report, Johnson, who hasn't practiced since Aug. 8, was on the field before Saturday's preseason game against the Browns wearing a sleeve on his right leg. At this stage, he doesn't seem likely to suit up for the Bills' exhibition finale, but when he is able able to return to the field, Johnson will have a chance to re-enter the equation in a Buffalo backfield led by James Cook that also includes Ray Davis.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Departs practice with knee injury

Johnson left practice early Saturday due to an apparent right knee injury, Matt Parrino of NYup.com reports. Johnson was participating in 1-on-1 drills when he went down and immediately grabbed his right knee. The running back was escorted to the sideline, and then to the locker room, by team trainers. There's no word yet on the exact nature or extent of Johnson's injury, but any absence lingering into the regular season would be a blow to Buffalo's backfield depth, as the versatile tailback is expected to again work in a dual-threat role behind James Cook and Ray Davis.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Past ankle injury

Johnson (ankle) is participating in OTAs, Jeffrey Barnes of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports. Johnson missed the Bills' two playoff games back in January but is now 100 percent healthy. He should again handle the pass-game, change-of-pace role behind James Cook in 2026 after Buffalo did nothing to address the running back room over the offseason. Johnson carried the ball 50 times for 200 yards and three touchdowns and added a 24-263-2 line as a receiver across 17 regular-season contests last season.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Could return Saturday

Johnson (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Saturday's divisional-round matchup against the Broncos. Johnson appears to be trending in the right direction ahead of Saturday's divisional-round contest in Denver, as he upgraded to limited practice Thursday after missing Buffalo's wild-card win over the Jaguars due to an ankle issue. If active, the Maryland product could play an important role on the Bills' offense, having caught 24 of 33 targets for 263 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season, particularly with Joshua Palmer (ankle), Gabe Davis (knee) and Tyrell Shavers (knee) sidelined Saturday.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: DNP again Wednesday

Johnson (ankle) did not participate in Wednesday's practice. Wednesday marks consecutive practices in which Johnson has been unable to participate, leaving his status for Saturday's divisional-round clash with the Broncos unclear. The running back missed last Sunday's playoff victory over the Jaguars due to a persistent ankle issue, and he will likely miss this Saturday's contest unless he can upgrade his practice participation in Thursday's session.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Inactive versus Jaguars

Johnson (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's wild-card contest against the Jaguars. Johnson logged a season-high 13 carries in the Bills' Week 18 win over the Jets, with the team electing to limit lead back James Cook to just two snaps in order to keep him healthy ahead of the playoffs. Johnson emerged from the contest with an ankle injury that led to him being deemed a non-participant in Wednesday's walkthrough as well as Thursday's practice. After returning to a limited session Friday, Johnson headed into the weekend listed as questionable. Now that he's been made inactive versus Jacksonville, Ray Davis and practice-squad elevation Frank Gore are on hand to work in complementary roles out of Buffalo's backfield behind Cook on Sunday.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Remains non-participant Thursday

Johnson (ankle) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports. Head coach Sean McDermott labeled Johnson day-to-day Wednesday, but the running back was unable to practice Thursday after being deemed a non-participant during Wednesday's walk-through. Johnson's last opportunity to practice before Sunday's wild-card round game against the Jaguars will be Friday. If Johnson's unavailable Sunday, Ray Davis could get more opportunities to spell James Cook against Jacksonville's stout run defense.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Garners eight touches in Week 17

Johnson rushed five times for 15 yards and caught three of four targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 13-12 loss to the Eagles. Johnson was able to tote the rock a season-high five times while corralling multiple passes for the eighth time in nine games. The running back has proven to be a reliable pass catcher for Buffalo, but unless he reaches the end zone, he doesn't have much fantasy utility in shallow leagues.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Scores rush TD in win

Johnson rushed three times for 16 yards and a touchdown in the Bills' 23-20 win over the Browns on Sunday. Johnson and Ray Davis each logged three rush attempts behind James Cook's 16, and the former was able to deliver a serviceable fantasy day thanks to a two-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. Johnson wasn't targeted for the first time in eight games, but he's likely to see his pass-catching production tick back up in a Week 17 showdown against the Eagles.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Gets seven touches in Week 15 win

Johnson turned four carries into 13 yards and caught three passes on as many targets for 15 yards during the Bills' 35-31 win over the Patriots on Sunday. Johnson iced the game for the Bills with a two-yard rush late in the fourth quarter, which was enough to pick up the first down and seal the win. His seven touches were a season high, and while he worked ahead of Ray Davis (one catch on as many targets for 13 yards, along with no carries), it was James Cook who predictably served as the bell-cow running back in Sunday's win. Johnson will continue to operate as a change-of-pace back when spelling Cook, so the former doesn't carry much fantasy appeal into the Bills' Week 16 tilt against the Browns on Sunday, Dec. 21.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Totals 25 yards in win

Johnson rushed two times for five yards and secured three of five targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 26-7 win over the Steelers. On a day Josh Allen completed passes to eight different receivers, Johnson's five targets led the Bills, and his three catches matched James Cook and Dawson Knox for the team lead. Johnson doesn't see nearly enough touch volume to be a recommended fantasy target, but he's involved enough to make this offense one to try and avoid most weeks outside of Allen and Cook since the ball is spread around to so many different players.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Solid as receiver in loss

Johnson rushed twice for seven yards and brought in all three targets for 45 yards in the Bills' 23-19 loss to the Texans on Thursday night. He also returned one kickoff for 22 yards. Johnson continued to serve as the No. 2 back behind starter James Cook over Ray Davis, who didn't log a carry. However, as is often the case, Johnson made a bigger impact as a receiver, recording multiple receptions for the fourth straight contest and eclipsing 40 receiving yards for the second consecutive game. Johnson's fantasy appeal remains limited to deep full-PPR formats and large-field DFS tournaments as long as Cook is healthy, and he'll fill his usual complementary role again in a Week 13 road matchup against the Steelers on Sunday, Nov. 30.
