Dixon was waived by the Jets on Wednesday, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.
The 26-year-old running back was a fourth-round pick for the Ravens back in 2016, and while he's been the subject of fantasy-football hype on a few different occasions, injuries have been the major theme of Dixon's pro career. He's unlikely to make an NFL roster for Week 1, though he appears to be healthy at the moment.

Dixon suffered a fractured knee during the preseason and was waived from IR with an injury settlement by the Ravens on Sept. 2. It appears Dixon may be at full health, but it remains to be seen how his knee responded to the workout. Dixon has registered 148 carries for 715 yards and two touchdowns while catching 36 passes for 213 yards and a score over 18 NFL games since entering the league in 2016.

It's a bit strange to see Dixon hit injured reserve without any information regarding what sort of injury, but considering he'll miss the entire 2019 season it's clear it's serious. Justice Hill stands to benefit the most from Dixon's absence, as the rookie running back is expected to heavily factor in as a receiving back -- a role Dixon would have likely split had he not suffered the undisclosed injury.

Dixon rushed for 66 yards on 13 carries during Thursday's 20-7 win over Washington.
Dixon's been dealing with a knee injury in recent weeks, but showed plenty of wiggle in the preseason finale, particularly on a 16-yard run he bounced to the right edge late in the first quarter. Dixon's kind of in a weird spot. On one hand, depth running backs are more valuable in Baltimore than other squads given the presumed emphasis that will be placed on the run. On the other, Dixon was already passed over by the emergence of Gus Edwards, only to see the Ravens add veteran Mark Ingram and rookie fourth-round pick Justice Hill in the offseason. Dixon's roster status is uncertain.

Dixon (knee) returned to Tuesday's joint practice session with the Eagles, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.
Dixon appeared to play through the injury during last week's preseason win over Green Bay, getting some work with the first-team offense en route to finishing with six carries for 14 yards and one catch for nine yards. It isn't clear if he'll be available for Thursday's exhibition versus Philadelphia, but the usage last week at least suggests Dixon is on track for a roster spot -- something that came into question after the Ravens used a fourth-round pick on Justice Hill. The team's run-first approach makes it easy enough to justify a roster with four running backs in Dixon, Hill, Mark Ingram and Gus Edwards.

This is just one beat writer's projection with plenty of time to go in the preseason, but it provides some insight into Dixon's current standing in the roster shuffle. Dixon is in the final year of his rookie deal after three underwhelming seasons and Baltimore made several big additions to the backfield in the offseason. Keeping Dixon would mean keeping four running backs on the 53-man roster, a practice that's becoming less and less common in today's NFL, especially when that said back does not contribute on special teams, as Zrebiec notes. Dixon will need to have a splashy preseason to break camp with the Ravens.
