Rockets' Kevin Durant: Downplays talk of reduced minutes
Durant pushed back Monday on the idea of playing reduced minutes in his 20th season, per Ben DuBose of USA Today.
The future Hall of Famer logged 78 regular-season appearances last year, his most since 2018-19 with the Warriors. Durant also averaged 36.4 minutes per game before going down with an ankle injury and missing five of Houston's six playoff contests. However, it doesn't sound like the 37-year-old perennial All-Star is ready to take it easy for the contending Rockets in 2026-27. Durant trails only LeBron James among the NBA's active minutes leaders.

Rockets' Fred VanVleet: Fully cleared to practice
VanVleet (knee) has been cleared for full practice, coach Ime Udoka said Tuesday, according to Will Guillory of The Athletic.
Udoka also said VanVleet has already been participating in five-on-five scrimmages, suggesting he's close to 100 percent after missing the entire 2025-26 season. Still, the point guard says his knee isn't back to where it was before the injury. Regardless, Fantasy managers can anticipate that VanVleet will miss one game of back-to-back sets based on Udoka's comments, at least early on in the season.

Rockets' Fred VanVleet: Progressing in ACL rehab
Head coach Ime Udoka said Friday that VanVleet (knee) is ramping up his rehab work, Lachard Binkley of SI.com reports.
With VanVleet having missed the entire 2025-26 campaign after suffering a torn ACL late last offseason, it's encouraging to hear he's back on the court. The veteran point guard is almost a full calendar year removed from the surgery, so there's optimism he'll be ready for Opening Night in late October. His level of participation in training camp and the preseason remains a question mark, though.

Thompson agreed to a five-year, $208 million extension Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
The deal will include a 10 percent trade kicker. An extension always seemed inevitable, as Thompson's two-way upside is through the roof. Across 79 regular-season appearances in 2025-26, he averaged 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.5 steals.
