With Houston's starters taking a seat during the regular-season finale, Sheppard stepped into the first unit. It's a familiar path for Sheppard, who started 21 times this season and is often the preferred candidate at the point guard position. Eason ceded significant time to Jabari Smith over the course of the season, but Eason got the green light for production at the four with the first unit sidelined during the regular-season finale. An eight-game stretch of single-digit scoring totals in March brought an end to his stint with the first unit, but the demotion didn't affect his bottom line. He still logged significant minutes and remained a decent source of rebounding for the squad.

The mini-streak was preceded by other below-average rebound totals, but Jabari Smith has helped to prop up the team's overall results. Houston's interior effectiveness could be exploited in the playoffs, so Sengun will need to be at his best in the upcoming postseason.

Thompson amassed 41 points (17-22 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 7-7 FT), nine rebounds, seven assists and two steals across 42 minutes during Friday's 136-132 loss to the Timberwolves.
Although Thompson finished with his highest scoring total of the season, the Timberwolves snapped Houston's eight-game winning streak. Amazingly, Thompson arrived at his voluminous total without any help from bonus points beyond the arc. All of Thompson's 17 baskets came from inside the perimeter. The Rockets are locked into the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference, so it wouldn't be surprising if Thompson and other Houston regulars play fewer minutes than usual or are held out altogether for the team's regular-season finale Sunday.

Eason (illness) is available for Friday's game against Minnesota, Lachard Binkley of SI.com reports.
Eason was on the injury report heading into this contest. However, the illness he is battling won't be enough to keep him off the floor for the first time since the 109-99 loss to Charlotte on Feb. 5. In Eason's only meeting with the Timberwolves this season, he finished with three points, eight rebounds and one steal in 21 minutes.
