Nelson has worked into the seventh inning in each of his last three outings. He's given up seven runs with an 18:3 K:BB over that span, though he's also allowed four home runs, including two in Tuesday's contest. The right-hander is now at a 5.19 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 46:16 K:BB through 52 innings over 10 starts this season. He'll look to keep his streak of quality starts going at home over the weekend against the Rockies.

The 28-year-old right-hander submitted one of his finer starts of the campaign Wednesday, flooding the zone for 64 strikes on 88 pitches and producing 18 whiffs. Nelson also fanned a season-high eight, pitched a season-most seven innings and logged his second consecutive quality start after failing to attain this feat in his prior seven outings. Nelson still has a shaky 5.40 ERA over 45 frames, but he's also set to take a more encouraging 1.16 WHIP and 43:14 K:BB into a soft matchup versus the division-rival Giants his next time out.

Nelson didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Mets, allowing one run on two hits and one walk with seven strikeouts across 6.2 innings.
It's the first time Nelson has gone at least six innings through eight starts this season, and he's now strung together back-to-back strong outings in May. He entered the month with a 7.71 ERA but has surrendered just two runs on six hits and three walks with 11 strikeouts across 12.1 innings over his last two starts. Nelson's lone mistake Friday was a solo homer allowed to Mark Vientos in the second inning. Nelson now owns a 5.68 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 35:14 K:BB across 38 innings on the year. Nelson has above-average stuff, highlighted by a 96.2-mph fastball and plus slider, and perhaps he'll be able to get his season on track following a second straight positive performance.

Nelson (1-3) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings in a loss to the Cubs on Saturday.
Nelson pitched quite well, and the only run he gave up came on an Ian Happ solo homer in the second inning. However, the Diamondbacks' offense was completely shut down by a pair of Chicago hurlers, resulting in Nelson being saddled with the loss. Still, this was a promising bounce-back for the right-hander after he was pummeled for 14 runs over 5.1 frames across his previous two starts. Those disastrous performances are largely responsible for his ugly overall 6.61 ERA, but Nelson will try to build off Saturday's good outing when he next takes the mound, which is projected to be in a home matchup versus the Mets.

Nelson was hit hard by the Padres in this neutral-site matchup at hitter-friendly Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu, serving up a pair of homers to Manny Machado. An offensive outburst from the Diamondbacks spared Nelson from taking the loss, but the right-hander's numbers are trending in the wrong direction. After posting a 3.54 ERA and 1.03 WHIP through his first five starts, the 28-year-old has allowed 14 runs over his past two outings and now owns a 7.71 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 25.2 innings. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the Cubs.

Pfaadt allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out three over 6.1 innings in Sunday's 10-4 loss to Toronto.
The results met the definition of a quality start, but Sunday's appearance was Pfaadt's first as a member of the Diamondbacks' bullpen. He gave the club exactly what it needed after starter Ryne Nelson allowed eight runs and retired just one batter. Prior to joining the 'pen, Pfaadt compiled a 5.94 ERA in three starts and was replaced by Merrill Kelly in the rotation.
Nelson (1-2) allowed eight runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out one over one-third of an inning to take the loss Sunday versus the Blue Jays.
Nelson was on the hook for all of Toronto's barrage in the opening frame, as he allowed the first eight batters to reach. Three of the eight hits Nelson allowed were doubles. This was his worst outing of the season, and it's not great for Nelson that Brandon Pfaadt delivered 6.1 innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen. Those two pitchers are likely battling for one rotation spot, and while that battle has favored Nelson so far, he probably can't afford another bad outing. He's now at a 6.97 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 20:9 K:BB across 20.2 innings over five starts. He is tentatively lined up for a home start versus the Padres his next time out.

Though Nelson held Baltimore to just three knocks Monday, two of which went for extra bases. The right-hander fanned a season-high seven, and Nelson has now kept the ball in the yard in back-to-back starts after serving up a pair of long balls in each of his prior two outings. Nelson, who owns a strong 3.54 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB over 20.1 innings, has given up three hits or fewer three times this year but is set for a tough test this weekend against Toronto.
