Rogers limited the Blue Jays to one run through four innings, but the 28-year-old southpaw's outing took a turn for the worse in the fifth, when he gave up consecutive homers to George Springer, Vladimir Guerrero and Kazuma Okamoto. It was the first time Rogers gave up three home runs in a start since Sept. 26, 2025, against the Yankees. All three of the runs Rogers gave up came in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Kenny Piper. Rogers struggled to find the plate Monday, throwing only 45 of his 79 pitches for strikes while also plunking a pair of batters. It was the southpaw's shortest outing since May 8 in Tampa Bay, breaking up his streak of 12 starts with at least five innings. Rogers, who's worked to a 2.41 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 64:16 K:BB since the start of June (71 innings), will be aiming to rediscover his control against the Rays in pitcher-friendly Tampa Bay his next time out.

Rogers remained in Baltimore after their fire sale at the trade deadline and delivered a gem of an outing, carrying a two-hitter into the seventh. Following a rough start to the year, Rogers has been fantastic since the start of June with a 2.28 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 60:14 K:BB across 67 innings. The 28-year-old will presumably next take the mound in Minnesota.

An anticipated pitchers' duel with Tarik Skubal never materialized, and while Rogers' defense did him no favors, he also got hit hard as half of the knocks off him went for extra bases. The Baltimore southpaw left the game after 94 pitches (69 strikes) with his team in a 7-0 hole, but the Detroit bullpen imploded once Skubal made his own exit. It was the first time since June 9 that Rogers had been tagged for more than two earned runs, and even after Wednesday's outing he sports a 1.99 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 45:12 K:BB in 49.2 innings over his last eight starts. He lines up to make his next trip to the mound at home next week against the Angels.
