Vasquez (3-0) earned the win Monday, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks over five innings against the Cubs. He struck out four.
Vasquez ran into major trouble in the third inning, allowing a grand slam to Moises Ballesteros, but the right-hander was able to complete five innings to provide length and earn his third win of the season. The 27-year-old has mostly been sharp to begin 2026, posting a 2.94 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with a 34:11 K:BB across 33.2 innings (six starts), though he has allowed four or more runs in two of his past three outings. Vasquez's next start is projected for Sunday against the White Sox.

Padres' Randy Vasquez: Collects second win of 2026
Vasquez (2-0) earned the win against the Rockies on Tuesday, allowing three hits while striking out five across seven scoreless innings. He did not issue a walk.
Vasquez made easy work out of the Rockies on Tuesday, at Coors Field no less, tossing 56 strikes among his 84 pitches while generating 12 whiffs. It was a nice bounce-back performance from the 27-year-old right-hander, who struggled in his prior outing Wednesday against the Mariners. It was Vasquez's third quality start of the season (in five outings), and he has a 1.88 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB across 28.2 innings. He's lined up to face the Cubs next week at home.

Padres' Randy Vasquez: First adversity of season
Vasquez allowed four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six over four innings in a no-decision Wednesday versus the Mariners.
Vasquez hadn't allowed more than a single run in any of his first three starts, but the Mariners got to him early Wednesday. Dominic Canzone hit a two-run double in the second inning and Brendan Donovan added a two-run single in the fourth. This was an inefficient showing for Vasquez, who threw just 45 of 85 pitches for strikes. Even with the shaky work in this outing, he's at a 2.49 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB across 21.2 innings through his first four outings this year. He's tentatively lined up to make his next start at Colorado.

Padres' Randy Vasquez: Continues splendid start to season
Vasquez allowed one run on seven hits and no walks while striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Colorado on Thursday.
Vasquez served up a solo homer to Brenton Doyle in the third inning but was otherwise unscored upon. He got 13 whiffs among his 92 pitches and struck out eight batters for the second time through three starts this season. Notably, Vasquez exceeded five punchouts just once in 28 outings (26 starts) during the regular season in 2025. The right-hander has been outstanding to begin the campaign, posting a 1.02 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB through 17.2 frames. He's become an intriguing option in all fantasy leagues, especially considering his increased strikeout numbers.

Padres' Randy Vasquez: Pitches well again in no-decision
Vasquez (1-0) didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Red Sox, allowing one run on six hits and one walk with three strikeouts across six innings.
Vasquez's day was done with a 2-1 lead, but Adrian Morejon allowed a couple hits and a run in the eighth inning to cost Vasquez another win. The 27-year-old's fastball velocity was back down to his 2025 levels of 93.6 mph after throwing it around 95 mph in last Saturday's win over Detroit. It will be interesting to see if Vasquez is able to get the velocity back up in next week's start against the Rockies. The right-hander will carry a 0.75 ERA and 11:4 K:BB across 12 innings into his next outing.

Padres' Randy Vasquez: Leads Padres to first victory
Vasquez (1-0) earned the win over Detroit on Saturday, pitching six scoreless innings and allowing two hits and three walks while striking out eight batters.
San Diego's offense remained mostly stagnant, but Vasquez made sure that didn't matter by blanking the Tigers over his six frames. The right-hander also had his swing-and-miss stuff working, notching 13 whiffs and eight punchouts. The latter total was more than Vasquez had in all but one of his 28 outings last season, and he promisingly averaged 95.0 mph on his fastball after averaging 93.4 mph on the pitch last year. If he's able to maintain the uptick in velocity and build on Saturday's excellent start, Vasquez could prove to be a fantasy steal for managers who selected him near the end of drafts or plucked him off the waiver wire.

Vasquez completed 5.1 innings in a Cactus League start versus Milwaukee on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four batters.
Vasquez allowed just five baserunners, but three of those circled the bases on home runs. This was presumably the right-hander's final appearance this spring, and if that's the case he'll finish the exhibition slate with a 4.91 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB over 18.1 innings spanning five starts. Vasquez is locked into a role in San Diego's season-opening rotation and could make his first start in the third game of the team's initial series against Detroit.

Vasquez held the Dodgers' lineup in check, though Los Angeles didn't play most of its regular starters. The right-hander threw 31 total pitches as he begins to build up toward the regular season. Nick Pivetta, Michael King and Joe Musgrove are locked into the rotation, and Vasquez is likely to join them after making 28 appearances (26 starts) in 2025. While Vasquez finished with a 3.84 ERA over 133.2 regular-season innings, his 78:52 K:BB wasn't pretty. Some ERA regression is likely coming, but he did enough last season that he's expected to open in San Diego's rotation.

Vasquez handled the Brewers well Tuesday, keeping them off the bases entirely from the fourth inning onward. The right-hander has been sharp in September, posting a 2.53 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over 21.1 innings in four starts. His peripherals (4.88 FIP) aren't pretty, but the 26-year-old has delivered results in 2025, carrying a 3.73 ERA and 1.31 WHIP across 27 outings and 132.2 innings for the Padres.

Vasquez (5-7) took the loss Thursday against the Mets, allowing four runs on four hits and a walk across 2.1 innings. He struck out three.
After turning in back-to-back quality starts in his previous two outings, Vasquez struggled Thursday, giving up a solo homer to Pete Alonso in the first inning before allowing another three runs before departing in the third. Through 125.2 innings this year, Vasquez sports a 3.94 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP and 74:50 K:BB. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, tentatively scheduled for next week at home against the Brewers.

Vasquez (5-6) allowed four hits and struck out nine without walking a batter over six shutout innings to earn the win over the Rockies on Thursday.
Vasquez has won both of his starts since rejoining the Padres' rotation, though both outings have been against the lowly Rockies. The nine strikeouts were easily a season high for the right-hander, who hadn't logged more than five in any previous appearance this year. Vasquez now has a 3.72 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 71:49 K:BB through 123.1 innings over 25 appearances (24 starts). He's tentatively projected to make his next start on the road versus the Mets, assuming Vasquez has done enough to stay in the rotation while Nestor Cortes (biceps) remains on the injured list.
