Muncy went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in Sunday's 23-9 loss to the Rockies.
Muncy has started five of six games at third base since returning from a broken hand Monday. He has gone 4-for-18 (.222) with seven RBI in those contests. For the season, the infielder is batting .236 with a .707 OPS, three homers, 14 RBI, 18 runs scored, six doubles, two triples and two stolen bases over 31 games. With Muncy working his way back to regular status in the lineup, it appears Zack Gelof will primarily compete with Jeff McNeil for playing time at second base, though all but one of Muncy's starts since his return have come against southpaws.

Muncy went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 6-4 win over the Rockies.
Muncy came through with a two-RBI double off the wall in left-center field to tie the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning. Muncy has been out of commission since late April due to a fractured left hand. He went 10-for-27 with three home runs and two doubles in seven minor-league rehab games, which was enough to convince the Athletics he was ready to rejoin the active roster. Muncy continued to mash on his rehab assignment as he completes his recovery from a fractured fifth metacarpal in his left hand. The 23-year-old is slashing .375/.385/.708 with two homers, two doubles, eight RBI and five runs across six rehab appearances with the Aviators. It shouldn't be long before he's activated and returns to the big-league roster, though it remains to be seen whether Muncy will reclaim his role as the primary third baseman. Zack Gelof has performed well at the hot corner in his absence, though the defensive versatility of both players should provide the A's with multiple avenues to get both of them in the lineup.

Hernaiz went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and two walks in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.
With Max Muncy shifting to designated hitter, Hernaiz drew the start at third base and connected on his first homer of the season, a solo shot off Noah Schultz in the second inning.
