With Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (groin) facing an extended stay on the injured list, Muncy will rejoin the big club to bolster its infield depth. The 23-year-old owns just a .699 OPS through 175 plate appearances in the majors this season, but he's gone 7-for-20 with two homers, five RBI and five runs scored in five games since his demotion to Triple-A on July 8. He and Tommy White will likely compete for starts at the hot corner until Kuroda-Grauer is healthy.

Muncy is slashing .227/.303/.396 with a 33.1 percent strikeout rate this season, and his playing time has been a bit sporadic since he returned from the injured list in early June. With Muncy demoted to the minors and Tyler Soderstrom (hip) returning from the injured list, Zack Gelof should settle in as the club's primary third baseman.
Muncy is not in the Athletics' starting lineup against the Marlins on Friday.
The Athletics will give the nod at third base to Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, who will bat fifth against Marlins right-hander Tyler Phillips in Friday's series opener. Muncy has reached base safely in each of his last eight games, going 8-for-28 (.286) with one steal, three walks, one home run and four RBI in that span.
Muncy will start at third base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Angels.

Muncy opened the scoring with his eighth-inning blast. The infielder has handled a short-side platoon role since returning from a broken hand earlier in June.
