  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Cleared for next start

Springs (hip) is listed as the Athletics' probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Though Springs was lifted after three innings during his most recent start Thursday after experiencing right hip soreness, Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said afterward that the southpaw was removed merely as a precaution. The skipper added that he didn't expect Springs to miss a start, and the 33-year-old looks like he'll be ready to go for his next turn through the rotation. He'll head into Wednesday's outing with a 3-2 record, 3.06 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 35:12 K:BB through 38.2 innings over seven starts.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Expected to make next start

Springs (hip) is expected to be available for his next scheduled start, Jason Burke of SI.com reports.

Springs exited Thursday's 6-3 win over the Royals in the fourth inning due to right hip soreness, but manager Mark Kotsay noted after the contest that the pitcher's removal was precautionary. Kotsay explained that Springs was likely able to continue, and he "made the decision" for his starter, removing him from the game, but the manager doesn't "see any reason for him to miss a start." Springs is projected to face Philadelphia on the road early next week.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Leaves outing with hip soreness

Springs was removed from Thursday's start against the Royals after three innings due to right hip soreness, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Springs probably wasn't long for the game, anyway, having needed 67 pitches to navigate through his three frames, but an issue with his hip was apparently the reason for the quick hook. The southpaw yielded two runs on five hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch before exiting. The Athletics should have more information on Springs' condition after the game. He is tentatively lined up to face the Phillies on the road in his next start.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Falters late in loss

Springs (3-2) took the loss against the Rangers on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts over six innings.

Springs entered the sixth inning with a 3-2 lead but surrendered a two-run homer off the bat of Josh Jung before finishing the frame. The southpaw has now allowed 11 earned runs over consecutive losses after holding opponents to just four earned runs through his first four starts. He'll carry a 3.79 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 31:11 K:BB across 35.2 innings into a home matchup with the Guardians next weekend.

  • White Sox's Munetaka Murakami: Homers in third straight contest

Murakami went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 7-4 win over Athletics.

Murakami extended his club's lead with a towering two-run blast in a lefty-lefty matchup against Jeffrey Springs in the fifth inning. It marked the first-year slugger's third homer in as many days and eighth of the season. His .208 batting average and 33.3 percent strikeout rate leave something to be desired, but Murakami's power, combined with a 21.5 percent walk rate, has helped produce a .918 OPS through 22 games.

  • White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Goes deep again Sunday

Montgomery went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's victory over Athletics.

Montgomery went deep for the second straight day, this time crushing a slider over the center-field fence in a lefty-lefty matchup with Jeffrey Springs in the fifth inning. The infielder has been on a power surge of late, slashing .261/.414/.739 with three homers, six RBI and four runs over his past seven games. After posting an .840 OPS across 71 games as a rookie in 2025, Montgomery owns a .771 mark through 22 contests in 2026.

  • White Sox's Derek Hill: Drives first homer of season

Hill went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Athletics.

Hill hit the first of four White Sox homers, unloading on a Jeffrey Springs fastball in the second inning. The veteran started in right field but has seen action at all three outfield spots, producing a .725 OPS through 31 plate appearances, with Sunday's homer marking his first extra-base hit and RBI of the season. Hill figures to continue operating primarily as a bench outfielder with some starts against lefties mixed in.

  • White Sox's Miguel Vargas: Pops homer in win

Vargas went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, an additional run scored and two walks in Sunday's victory over the Athletics.

Vargas contributed in Sunday's win, recording two hits, highlighted by a two-run homer off Jeffrey Springs in the second inning. The third baseman has struggled early this season, hitting .173/.315/.360 with three homers, 10 RBI and 13 runs through 21 appearances, but he has now homered twice over the past four contests after a 16-homer campaign in 2025.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Idle for series finale

Benintendi is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

Benintendi hasn't reached base in any of his nine plate appearances against left-handed pitchers this season, so the White Sox will hold him out of the lineup for the series finale while southpaw Jeffrey Springs takes the hill for the Athletics. After slotting anywhere between third and seventh in the batting order during his first 11 starts of the season, Benintendi has moved into the leadoff spot for his most recent three starts against right-handed pitchers.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Allows seven runs in loss

Springs (3-1) took the loss Sunday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings in a 7-4 loss against the White Sox. He struck out seven.

Springs' hot start came to a halt, as the White Sox tagged the southpaw for seven runs, fueled by four homers, in his first loss of the season. Despite the poor run prevention, the 33-year-old generated 14 whiffs and matched a season high with seven strikeouts Sunday. Through five starts, Springs owns a 3.34 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with a 27:9 K:BB across 29.2 innings.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Masterful again Tuesday

Springs (3-0) earned the win over Texas on Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out five batters over 6.1 innings.

Springs gave up a run in the first inning but shut down the Rangers after that, allowing just one hit (a single) and one walk along with zero runs following that initial frame. The lefty recorded his third straight quality start, all of which have resulted in victories. Springs has been one of MLB's best hurlers in the early portion of the season, posting a 1.46 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB over 24.2 frames though his first four starts. He's shown some flashes of excellence in prior campaigns -- especially in 2022, when he put up a 2.46 ERA across 135.1 regular-season innings with the Rays -- so fantasy managers have reason to hope that Springs can maintain this groove, though he's unlikely to be quite this good for the remainder of the season.
