Nationals' Yohandy Morales: Knocking on door for promotion
Morales is slashing a stunning .404/.472/.697 over his last 31 games for Triple-A Rochester with eight doubles, eight homers, 19 RBI and a 13:28 BB:K.
The 40th overall pick in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami, Morales struggled to make any kind of impact at the plate or find a defensive home during his first few years in the Nationals' system. After another sluggish start to 2026, however, things have suddenly clicked for the 24-year-old, and after fanning 30.3 percent of the time over 95 games for Rochester last season, he's shaved that down to 22.4 percent during his month-long heater. Morales has mainly played third base in 2026 after being used primarily at first base the two prior years, and with the Nats having demoted Brady House on Monday, the door would seem to be open for Morales to make his big-league debut in the coming weeks.

Nationals' Yohandy Morales: Sent to minor-league camp
The Nationals reassigned Morales to minor-league camp Saturday.
Morales struggled to make an impression during spring training, going 1-for-17 with seven strikeouts across 11 games with the Nationals. He spent the majority of the 2025 season at Triple-A Rochester and will likely do the same this year, though he could make his major-league debut in 2026 if the Nationals require depth at first base. Morales slashed .249/.330/.401 with five steals, 11 home runs and 49 RBI over 433 plate appearances in Triple-A last year.

Nationals' Yohandy Morales: Gets bump to Triple-A
The Nationals promoted Morales from Double-A Harrisburg to Triple-A Rochester on Friday.
Selected with the first pick of the second round in the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, Morales saw his 2024 campaign interrupted by a thumb injury. The 23-year-old was healthy to begin the current season and got off to a hot start with Harrisburg, slashing .315/.366/.520 with four home runs and a 23.2 percent strikeout rate over 33 games to earn the promotion. Over his first three contests with Rochester he's gone 2-for-9 with three walks against two strikeouts. Morales has split his time this season between third base and first base, but his likely home in the majors is at the latter position or at designated hitter.

Nationals' Yohandy Morales: Returns from IL
Morales (thumb) has gone 3-for-12 with a home run, a stolen base, four walks, three runs and two RBI in four games since being reinstated from Double-A Harrisburg's 7-day injured list Thursday.
Morales had been out of action for nearly three months due to a left thumb injury before he made his return to the Harrisburg lineup last week. The 22-year-old third baseman is slashing .239/.327/.359 with three home runs and three stolen bases across 162 plate appearances for the Double-A club this season.

Nationals' Yohandy Morales: Starting rehab assignment
Morales (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Fredericksburg on Tuesday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
Morales has been sidelined since May due to a left thumb injury, but he's feeling good enough to participate in games. The 22-year-old infielder has been a fast riser through the Nationals' farm system and has slashed .238/.315/.346 in 146 appearances at Double-A Harrisburg this season.

Nationals' Yohandy Morales: Lands on injured list
Morales was placed on the 7-day injured list this week at Double-A Harrisburg due to a thumb injury, Bobby Blanco of MASN Sports reports.
The 22-year-old was injured Saturday on a play at home plate as he tried to score on a wild pitch. Morales has having a tepid start to the season, slashing .238/.315/.346 with two homers in 37 games for Harrisburg, but the 2023 second-round pick might be able to use the time off to clear his head and re-focus. There's no timeline for Morales' return to the lineup.
