The former Brewer and Met fell just short of his ninth quality start of the season, getting lifted after 97 pitches (59 strikes), and Peralta continues to turn his season around since joining the Rays and making some mechanical tweaks to his delivery. Peralta navigated a difficult first inning, allowing three consecutive singles before escaping a bases-loaded jam with no further damage than just a run. Francisco Lindor's leadoff home run was the only blemish on Peralta's line, as he stymied the team that sent him south at the trade deadline. Peralta needed just 74 pitches (53 strikes) to deliver his second straight quality start and third in six outings for Tampa Bay, after he managed to produce only four in 22 trips to the mound for New York. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which could come either Sunday in Texas or next Tuesday in Atlanta, depending on whether the Rays plan to expand to a six-man rotation once Griffin Jax (elbow) returns from the injured list to start Wednesday's series finale with the Mets.

Detroit never even got a runner into scoring position against Peralta, who fired 50 of 81 pitches for strikes for his second quality start in four outings with Tampa Bay, and his first win since June 14. Since surrendering seven runs in his Rays debut Aug. 4, the right-hander has a 3.80 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB over 23.2 frames in his past four starts. Peralta will look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up to come at home next week against the team that traded him, the Mets.

Peralta fell to the Orioles on Friday for a second consecutive start, giving up seven runs over his last 11.2 frames against Baltimore. He kept the Orioles to two runs through four innings but allowed three baserunners to cross home in the fifth frame, highlighted by a two-run homer by Pete Alonso. Peralta has given up at least five earned runs six times this season, three of which have come over his last five outings. He hasn't been credited with a win since June 14 against Atlanta, and in four starts with the Rays, the veteran right-hander has a 7.17 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 21.1 innings. Peralta is slated to take on the Tigers on the road next week.

Peralta's first outing for the Rays didn't go well, though this start came at Coors Field. The right-hander was acquired from the Mets on Sunday. Peralta has allowed at least five runs in four of his last eight outings, so there's a glaring consistency issue he'll need to work through with his new team. He's at a 5.37 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 116:49 K:BB through 117.1 innings over 23 starts this season. Peralta's next outing is expected to be in another hitter-friendly venue in Sacramento against the Athletics.
Rays manager Kevin Cash said that Peralta will start Tuesday's game against the Rockies at Coors Field, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.
Acquired from the Mets on Sunday in a four-player deal, Peralta will be called upon to make his Rays debut two days later, stepping into the rotation spot that previously belonged to the injured Shane McClanahan (back). Though Peralta had labored to a 4.99 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 113:48 K:BB in 113.2 innings with New York, the Rays are optimistic that their coaching staff can coax better results from the two-time All-Star. A strong finish to the campaign could set up the 30-year-old righty for a lucrative payday this offseason, when he'll hit free agency for the first time in his career.
