The Red Sox reinstated Whitlock (personal) from the paternity leave list Monday.
Boston sent out right-hander Tyler Uberstine to Triple-A Worcester to clear room on the active roster for Whitlock, who spent the maximum three days away from the Red Sox while observing the birth of his child. The 29-year-old right-hander should return to a high-leverage role in the Boston bullpen.

Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Expected back Monday
Boston is expecting Whitlock (paternity leave) to return to the team Monday, Chris Henrique of BostonSportsJournal.com reports.
Whitlock has been away from the team since Friday while welcoming his second child into the world. The righty reliever should be back with Boston for the team's series opener at home versus Milwaukee. Whitlock has yet to give a up a run through three outings spanning three innings this season.

The Red Sox placed Whitlock on the paternity leave list Friday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
Whitlock will be away for the next 1-to-3 days while welcoming a new addition to the family. The setup man has made three scoreless appearances out of the Boston bullpen in the early going this season, recording one hold with a 4:2 K:BB.

Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Impressive in loss
Whitlock threw a perfect inning while striking out one batter in a 9-6 loss against Minnesota on Monday.
Whitlock appeared in four games this spring for Boston, allowing zero earned runs in four innings pitched. The right-hander also made four appearances for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, allowing just one earned run in 3.1 innings. The 29-year-old posted a career-best 31 percent strikeout rate while putting up a 2.25 ERA for Boston in 2025. Whitlock will once again serve as a high-leverage arm for a Boston bullpen that still features Aroldis Chapman and Greg Weissert but a mix of unproven arms after that.

Whitlock allowed one hit and struck out three over a scoreless inning in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Yankees.
The Yankees had clawed their way back from a 6-0 deficit in the first inning and threatened in the eighth, when Aaron Judge led off with a single. Whitlock then shut it down and earned his 24th hold, getting three consecutive punchouts. It was the ninth consecutive scoreless outing for the reliever, who has allowed nine hits and two walks while striking out 14 over 10 innings during the streak.

Whitlock allowed one hit and struck out three over one scoreless inning to earn his 20th hold in Monday's 4-3 win over Baltimore.
Whitlock entered a one-run game to open the eighth inning and ceded a leadoff double to Gunnar Henderson before buckling down to strike out the next three hitters. The right-hander's having a strong second half, allowing just one earned run and three walks while striking out 17 over 15.1 innings (0.59 ERA, 0.85 WHIP) since the All-Star break.

Whitlock threw 1.2 perfect innings to earn a save over the Yankees on Sunday. He struck out one batter.
Whitlock entered the game with two on and one out in the eighth inning and forced Aaron Judge to ground into a double play. Whitlock then retired the Yankees' 4-5-6 batters in order to close out the 2-0 win. He earned his first save since 2023 and dropped his ERA to 2.97 through 36.1 frames. Aroldis Chapman did not appear in the game.

Whitlock (4-0) earned the win Friday against Atlanta after allowing one hit and one walk in 1.2 scoreless innings. He struck out two.
Whitlock has now registered at least one punchout in each of his nine outings in May. The 28-year-old right-hander is an important multi-inning weapon for the Red Sox, although that hasn't translated to much fantasy appeal. Through 29.1 innings, Whitlock owns a 3.68 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 36:13 K:BB with three holds and zero saves.

Whitlock opened the seventh inning with Boston leading, 6-3, and left with the game tied. He retired the first two batters before giving up a walk, single and home run, his first big fly allowed this season. Whitlock entered the contest without having allowed a run in six straight outings. He's an important bullpen piece and is often used for multiple innings; seven of his 11 appearances have lasted two innings. Whitlock owns a 3.06 ERA with 19 strikeouts and five walks over 17.2 innings.
