The saga is over. Isak has officially joined Liverpool. The move was expected to be completed and is, with the Reds having just announced the move.
Transfer deadline day biggest moves: Liverpool land Alexander Isak but Marc Guehi deal falls through
The summer transfer window is now over in most of the European leagues

The summer transfer window is officially closed in most European leagues and things were definitely exciting. Liverpool have finally agreed terms with Newcastle for the transfer of Alexander Isak, though the fate of a Marc Guehi move remains in limbo. Manchester City have agreed a deal with PSG for the transfer of Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, while Ederson is set to join Fenerbahce. On Monday, among the top European leagues, only LaLiga's window remains open, not shutting until 6 p.m. ET. Other leagues and associations around Europe, like in Türkiye, and in Saudi Arabia will close at later dates, creating opportunities to sell for players and teams that couldn't find a solution in the summer before the deadline of September 1. Free agents, on the other hand, will still be able to sign with a club if they are not registered with another team.
The top deals of the day
- Alexander Isak from Newcastle to Liverpool for $175 million
- Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG to Manchester City for $30 million
- Edon Zhegrova from Lille to Juventus for $20 million
- Loic Openda from RB Leipzig to Juventus for $40 million
- Jadon Sancho from Manchester United to Aston Villa on loan
- Adrien Rabiot from OM to AC Milan for $10 million
- Yoane Wissa from Brentford to Newcastle for $73 million
- Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp to Manchester United for $23 million
- Randal Kolo Muani from PSG to Tottenham on loan
- Manuel Akanji from Manchester City to Inter on loan
- Benjamin Pavard from Inter to OM on loan
- Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea to Bayern Munich on loan with buy option included in the deal
The Isak saga is finally over
Alexander Isak is a new Liverpool striker in what will be the highest fee in the history of the Premier League after the Reds signed the Swedish striker for around $175 million from Newcastle. It was one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer 2025 as the player pushed to leave Newcastle in the summer transfer window, refusing to play and train with the team coached by Eddie Howe. While Arne Slot's side kept believing they could land on the deal, the move became a reality only in the last day of the transfer business, as Isak underwent the medical tests in the morning of the Deadline Day. Liverpool signed both Isak and Florian Wirtz in the summer 2025, the two biggest transfer fees paid in the history of the league, as the German striker also joined earlier for $133 million from Bayer Leverkusen.
An unexpected move for Akanji
If most of the deals that went through in the last days of business were kind of expected, there are some that really came out of nowhere. In particular, Inter have decided to sign Manuel Akanji from Manchester City on loan with an option to buy included in the deal, while at the same time Olympique Marseille signed French international Benjamin Pavard from the Nerazzurri. Pavard leaves the Italian Serie A two years after he joined from Bayern Munich, winning one Serie A title under Simone Inzaghi in his first season at the club, while Akanji was also on the radar of AC Milan, but then decided to join their crosstown rivals on the last day of the summer transfer window.
The story of the day -- the deal that didn't happen
Liverpool were probably the most active team of the window, and they also showed it on deadline day when they signed Isak from Newcastle, but also failed to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. During Monday afternoon the Reds agreed on a deal to sign him from Crystal Palace for a fee of over $46 million, with a 10% sell-on clause included, but then the deal collapsed as the team coached by Oliver Glasner was not able to sign the replacement for their club captain on time, despite him having a contract running in the summer 2026. After today's events, there's a real chance he could leave next year as a free agent, which would be wild, especially considering the club could have made a significant profit by selling him this summer.
Palace are expected to pull the plug on the Guehi deal despite a deal sheet being submitted. Ultimately they have been unable to find replacements for their club captain and as such feel they cannot proceed with the $47 million sale.
... has gone in. Liverpool have until 4 p.m. ET to round off a remarkable transfer window by adding England's best center back.
...but we're not done yet. There's a Marc Guehi deal sheet to consider, one that would afford Palace and Liverpool another two hours to finalise the move.
Three years after committing up to €100 million on Antony, Manchester United should be very relieved that they're getting €25 million from Real Betis for the Brazilian. United are getting a 50% sell on clause too with Antony signing up at Betis until 2030. Antony spent the second half of last season on loan in Spain, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 26 games.
Another big signing for Napoli this summer as the Azzurri announced the signing of Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United for $55 million between the loan fee and the buy option that can also become a mandatory option if Napoli will qualify for the next Champions League: "SSC Napoli announces that it has acquired the sporting services of player Rasmus Højlund from Manchester United Football Club on a loan deal with an obligation to buy."
The transfer deadline is hurtling towards us in Italy, France, Germany and England, where one of the biggest deals of the window is firmly up in the air. An hour ago we brought you news of the collapse of Crystal Palace's pursuit of Igor Julio, warning it could have ramifications on the sale of Marc Guehi to Liverpool. Well right now that deal has stalled with just an hour to go. Premier League clubs can submit deal sheets but only when both clubs are in agreement that they want a transfer to proceed. Right now it is not clear that Palace will be.
Another deal is now official as Nico Gonzalez joined Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal from Juventus: "After just one season with Juventus, Nico Gonzalez is leaving the club. The Argentine forward has signed for Atletico Madrid, joining on loan with an option to buy, which could become mandatory if certain conditions are met during the season", Juventus have announced.
Now it's official: USMNT midfielder Yunus Musah joins Atalanta from AC Milan, the clubs have announced: "Atalanta BC announces that it has acquired from AC Milan — on a temporary deal until June 30, 2026, with an option to make the move permanent — the rights to the sporting services of versatile 22-year-old New York–born midfielder Yunus Musah, who already boasts over 150 appearances across Serie A and La Liga and has featured in both the Champions League and Europa League."
Having agreed to sell Marc Guehi to Liverpool for $46 million, Crystal Palace thought they had a replacement, at least a partial one, in the form of Brighton's Igor Julio. The Brazilian had been one of two defenders Palace are working on and they are still expected to sign teenage center back Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse. However Igor's move, which had reached the medical stage, has now collapsed with West Ham stealing in to agree a deal with Brighton.
Whether this results in Palace pulling the plug on Guehi's sale is, for now, a matter of wild speculation in agent circles. We shall know more before too long.
It has been a tough start to life in the Championship for Wrexham but a 2-0 win at Millwall pulled them away from the early season relegation zone and there's more good news for supporters in the transfer window as Ben Sheaf arrives from Coventry. The 27 year old struggled for minutes early in the season with the Sky Blues but this is a player of serious Championship quality, the sort who could have a profoundly positive impact on Phil Parkinson's side.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have completed a deal to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace for a fee of over $46 million, with a 10% sell-on clause included, as the defender finalises his move after agreeing personal terms last month. Another big signing for Liverpool on Deadline Day while Isak is already undergoing the medicals with his new club.
Yes, it has happened. No I don't really understand why either. Five goals and two assists for Leicester last season must have had Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart in paroxysms of delight, convincing themselves that what the Chelsea squad really needed was Facundo Buonanotte.
I suppose it gives Chelsea someone who can cover plenty of positions, which might not go amiss given that this squad already looks heavy-legged from its Club World Cup exertions. It's just hard to believe there was no one else in the wide world of football that they could have got to do this sort of role.
Nicolas Jackson's on again, off again move to Bayern Munich is currently at the on stage after the player's agent Ali Barat spent the weekend trying to convince Chelsea not to pull the plug just so they had short term cover for Liam Delap's injury. Now Barat has released a statement as negotiations hurtle towards the 2 p.m. ET deadline.
Nico was ready. Bayern was ready. We were all aligned on a world-class project. For the agreement to be withdrawn at the final moment is deeply frustrating. But we won't give up. I will fight with everything I have to make sure Nico's next step reflects his talent, ambition, and the plan we built together. We hope that Chelsea can cover Liam Delap's unfortunate injury."
At the time of writing the expectation is that Chelsea will find an agreement with Bayern, one that could well turn the Bavarian's option from the previous deal into an obligation.
Inter have agreed a deal with Manchester City for the transfer of Manuel Akanji on loan with a buy option included in the deal at the end of the 2025-26 season. This is a surprising transfer especially because the player was close to join AC Milan earlier this summer but then the parties couldn't agree on the deal. Inter have entered the race on Deadline Day and will sign the Swiss international from the Premier League's side. At the same time, the Nerazzurri are closing in for an exit as Benjamin Pavard is close to join OM on loan until the end of the season.
Tottenham have sealed the signing of Randal Kolo Muani on loan from PSG until June 2026, with the French striker eager to join Spurs after being left out of PSG's project, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The deal won't include a buy option at the end of the current season and the French striker is expected to join Spurs in the next hours pending the medical tests.
We're just about six hours out from the closure of the transfer window and some of the biggest deals are involving the Premier League leaders. We don't just mean Alexander Isak. There is growing optimism that Liverpool can follow their second breaking of the British transfer record this summer by securing England international Marc Guehi. Crystal Palace are expected to sanction a deal at around $47 million for their club captain, who is out of contract in the summer and has made plain his intention to move.
That deal could be cross-funded by the departure of Harvey Elliot, who is working to secure a loan move to Aston Villa. That would include a purchase obligation at $47 million and would afford the 22 year old a chance at regular starter minutes that were not available to him at Anfield.
Manchester United agreed a deal for 23-year-old Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens for around £18 million according to multiple sources and he's undergoing a medical in England, amid a battle to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks. After talks over a possible deal for Emiliano Martinez with Aston Villa have collapsed, Manchester United are now expected to sign the Belgian goalkeeper before the end of the day.
A while back we brought you the news that Reiss Nelson favored a Premier League move amid interest from Besiktas. It looks like he's getting his way with a deal being lined up for the Arsenal winger to go to Brentford, who need to replace the outgoing Yoane Wissa. The Bees are understood to be getting an option to sign Nelson, who is out of contract at Arsenal in 2027.
Such drama at Stamford Bridge. On Saturday morning Nicolas Jackson was bound for a loan at Bayern Munich. Then Chelsea indicated they were pulling the plug on the deal following an injury to No.9 Liam Delap. Jackson and his camp were desperate not to return to London, however, and Bayern Munich are now pushing to revise the terms of their deal to something amenable to Chelsea. A deal is there to be done but it may look rather different to the $17.6 million loan fee and $70 million option that was previously agreed.
It's shaping up to be a busy day at Arsenal today, a lot of outgoing business needed to trim back Mikel Arteta's squad. Among those players who could be on the way out is Reiss Nelson, who has been on Fulham's radar throughout the summer but CBS Sports can also reveal that the 25 year old is wanted by Turkish giants Besiktas, who would be prepared to offer him an increase on his $135,000 a week salary at the Emirates Stadium. Remaining in England is believed to be Nelson's favored option but the Super Lig window remains open until September 12 and Besiktas, who don't have the pressure of naming squads for European football before that deadline to consider, are prepared to wait.
For their part Fulham want two wingers and manager Marco Silva was happy with what Nelson brought to the team last season. In recent days they have pressed ahead with deals for Shakhtar Donetsk's Kevin and Samuel Chukwueze of AC Milan but they remain in discussions over Nelson's potential arrival.
More likely outgoings at Arsenal include Sambi Lokonga and Fabio Vieira, who are heading to Hamburg, the former on a permanent deal and the latter in a loan that will include a purchase option. Jakub Kiwior's move to Porto only requires the final exchange of documents which will free Arsenal to sign Piero Hincapie. The Ecuador international is set to join from Bayer Leverkusen on a loan with a $60 million option, it is understood that the conditions of that option make it highly likely that the move will become permanent in 2026 with a five year contract for the 23 year old.
Newcastle have secured Yoane Wissa for a £55 million deal from Brentford, with the forward set to undergo his medical today as Eddie Howe rebuilds his attack alongside new signing Nick Woltemade. Meanwhile, Isak is currently undergoing a medical with Liverpool ahead of his move to Anfield.
Manchester United and Aston Villa have agreed on a loan deal that will bring English winger Jadon Sancho to join the team coached by Unai Emery while talks over the deal for Emiliano Martinez to Manchester United are also advancing quickly. This is also something to watch today as the Red Devils are expected to sign a goalkeeper.
- Alexander Isak from Newcastle to Liverpool for $175 million
- Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG to Manchester City for $30 million
- Edon Zhegrova from Lyon to Juventus for $20 million
This is another big deal happening today. Manchester City and PSG have agreed a deal for the transfer of Gianluigi Donnarumma in the last day of the summer transfer window. The Italian goalkeeper had a contract running until the summer 2026 with the French giants and after PSG signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille, Donnarumma had to leave in the last days of the summer transfer window as he didn't agree on a new deal. PSG are reportedly set to receive around $30 million of the transfer fee while Donnarumma agreed on a long term deal with the team coached by Pep Guardiola. Meanwhile, Ederson is close to join Fenerbahce and will leave Manchester City after more than eight years.
Well, it appears to finally be happening. Alexander Isak to Liverpool has been agreed upon between the Reds and Newcastle, according to multiple reports. It's for £130 million in the end and it is set to be complete on deadline day. The biggest transfer saga of the summer appears to be over.
Juventus are probably the most active club in the Italian Serie A and are set to complete two signings on the Deadline Day according to multiple sources. The Bianconeri have agreed a deal with Lyon for Edon Zhegrova for around €20 million and with RB Leipzig for Loic Openda who will join the Italian Serie A for around €40 million, according to the reports. Both players are already travelling to Turin where they will undergo the medicals and sign their new contracts.
